To pay this much for my windows to be cleaned?

A family member arranged for a window cleaner to clean my windows at my request. He has cleaned 4 windows and 1 lot of patio doors. He's charged my £60 and been here 30 minutes.

Don't know if I'm being naive but I did not expect it to cost that much! I was only expecting £20 at most!

AIBU to think this isn't reasonable?

We live rurally so have to suck up a slightly higher price to get anyone out. But I pay £14 for:

12 windows, front and back door (with glass sides), 1 set french doors.

He'll only come every 2-3 months though. There is another one that comes more often but he charges upwards of £25 and I think that's a rip off!

FlaviaAlbia · 03/05/2018 17:10

Guttering clearing out and washing the facias and down pipes costs £90 here. You can't cheat him just because you didn't ask the price in advance Shock

higherupper · 03/05/2018 17:11

Op your being ridiculous! Pay him his £60 then never have him back.

TSSDNCOP · 03/05/2018 17:11

I live in a 4 storey town house and need specialised extra long hoses and brushes to clean my windows.

Cost: £40 every 3 months, but also it takes 2 hours.

MeanTangerine · 03/05/2018 17:35

Please leave reviews on all possible social media so the rest of us can avoid him.

Andromeida59 · 03/05/2018 17:38

YANBU. You're being ripped off. Any additional work should have been agreed in advance plus you only have his word that he did that work.

isthisspring · 03/05/2018 17:39

I think it is the gutter clean that has pushed the price up, my windows were 15 for a four bed but gutters were around 40. OP I think you have to pay him unless he agrees a smaller amount. You can leave an online review if appropriate and not use again.

SmashedMug · 03/05/2018 17:42

You need to pay him and accept that £60 is the price you pay for the lesson in asking prices up front.

haggisaggis · 03/05/2018 17:46

I’m £15 for windows and £ 40 for guttering - 4 bed house, 2 stories including balcony and bifold doors.

Lovewinemorethanhusband · 03/05/2018 17:50

I paid £60 for mine but I had windows, guttering. And fascias cleaned also conservatory and the conservatory roof which was minging !! He did a fab job so was happy to pay that

jigglepiggle · 03/05/2018 17:58

If he’s cleared your gutters you need to pay him the £60. Just don’t have him back again. You should have asked how much it would cost in advance.

NanooCov · 03/05/2018 18:29

So, you've confirmed he did all the jobs your relative requested (gutters and windows) and are still refusing to pay him for work done? You're being totally unreasonable.

NinkyNonk1 · 03/05/2018 19:12

I've paid him the full amount but he's now stated that he did do the bathroom 2nd floor window which is a lie and that he can't do velux

Blimey - how do window cleaners afford to live with some of you apparently paying under a tenner?

Flyingpompom · 03/05/2018 19:30

My family member is a window cleaner and they charge by time...I think they price themselves at around 50 quid per hour, so if your house takes them 15 minutes, which is average, then it'd be 12.50.
A first clean would be more but that's because it'd take longer, so you'd have noticed him being there for ages.
My family member would always explain, too, eg "it's 20 today because it's harder the first time, but I'd expect your regular clean to be around 12".
He does charge more for gutters, but he'd discuss and give you a quote first.

^£50 an hour- you are having a laugh!

Flyingpompom · 03/05/2018 19:35

Why greendale? Confused

DropZoneOne · 03/05/2018 19:38

We pay £15 for a 3 bed house. Last time they did the fascias and gutters too which were really bad so that was £70 in total.

Lauren83 · 03/05/2018 19:39

We pay £15 for a 3 story house including conservatory

Eminybob · 03/05/2018 19:40

Why did you pay him the full amount??

PasstheStarmix · 03/05/2018 19:43

Is he meaning £60 for a quarter? That can’t be for one month? Did you ask him to clean the guttering? I pay £7 per clean and I have a big house with loads of windows.

PorkyPortia · 03/05/2018 19:51

Why shouldn’t she Eminybob ?

Eminybob · 03/05/2018 19:53

Because she said she want going to

Eminybob · 03/05/2018 19:53

*wasn't going to

wonkylegs · 03/05/2018 19:58

We pay £20 for 23 big sash windows, 2 glazed doors and a large conservatory
The guy does a good job and comes every 3 weeks in summer, every 6 in winter
Everyone round here seems to think I pay to much but I think he does a good job on a big house
So yep OP sounds a bit much
