Would you be pissed off if your partner went to one of these sleazy places? Am I overreacting to be pissed off about dh going to one when he knew I'd be cross about it ? I'm not hopping mad but I'm certainly very unimpressed!

@ILovethe90s

Quora? Really? And simply saying "bollocks" doesn't really constitute a good rebuttal.

A said there are some (many) excellent female drivers but that they can't compete with men. I'm not sure if you fail to understand how physically demanding motor racing is or if you are for mixed-sex competitions.

Do you feel the same about men and women competing in all sports?

Anyway, here's a link to a paper about sex and speed of reactions.

biology.clemson.edu/bpc/bp/Lab/110/reaction.htm#Gender

The effect of G is quite well known. F1 cars can corner at 4-5G. That makes your head weight about 55lb. Your body weigh 45 stone.

Do you need some proof of men being stronger, either lb for lb or absolute.

I'm not sure why you think I'm wrong.

I find people quoting and commenting on other peoples comments more entertaining, than the actual thread itself. GrinGrin

KittyKlaws · 01/05/2018 16:02

This thread made me roll my eyes but the witty responses of some more feminist minded women have made me laugh - so it was worth it.

Also got a great new 'man meme' - so thanks for that poster (sorry I would scroll back for names but I'm having a small 'break' from work)

Women of Mumsnet - good work, you are great.

Kettlepotblack · 01/05/2018 16:15

Nottingham is not a desolate wasteland with nothing but 2 hotels and a Hooters!

There was a Hooters air - I shit you not

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hooters_Air

Seems to rule out 50% of the population flying with them... hardly marketing genius.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 01/05/2018 16:39

People travel for two hours in the car with their families for these wings

I seriously doubt it. A

Although it's possibly your idea of a great family day out, who knows?

"C'mon kids. All in the car for a four hour round trip to eat nasty cheap, battery-farmed chicken wings doused in vats of salt and sugar while daddy leers at the waitress's boobs."

noblegiraffe · 01/05/2018 16:39

I am disappointed that the Hooters aeroplanes didn’t have chicken wings.

Frosty66612 · 01/05/2018 16:42

I think I would have died with embarrassment going somewhere like that with my dad as a child!

Yorkshirebetty · 01/05/2018 16:43

@SheGotBetteDavisEyes - Grin
I'm in fits of laughter at that! I had to hoot (sorry) at a four hour family round trip! We've only ever done that to go to a zoo! Dear god. I wonder if people would book a 5 hour flight for the chicken wings and the boob ogling Grin!!

Steeley113 · 01/05/2018 16:46

@Pumperthepumper no one bats an eyelid of a bloke chooses to be a male stripper but if a woman chooses it, she’s being objectified and it’s oh so awful. That’s what annoys me about it all.

MavisBroom · 01/05/2018 16:46

Cheshire Hooters really hasn't worked over here and I'm surprised that Nottingham is still going now - Birmingham & London shut down over 15 years ago.

Pumperthepumper · 01/05/2018 16:54

steeley you didn’t answer a single one of my questions. Do you believe that the objectification of male and female strippers is exactly the same thing? Do you believe that male strippers are objectified in exactly the same way as female strippers? Do you believe they are at equal risk from harrassment/trafficking/coercion?

Or do you seriously believe it’s a simple case of ‘women are happy to see men objectified but not other women in order to be contrary’?

MillicentF · 01/05/2018 16:56

"@Pumperthepumper no one bats an eyelid of a bloke chooses to be a male stripper but if a woman chooses it, she’s being objectified and it’s oh so awful. That’s what annoys me about it all."

Can I just ask-are you at all receptive to a discussion about this, or to listening to other people's points of view? I'm happy to engage if you are- but don't want to waste my time if you're not.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 01/05/2018 16:59

Yes it is awful. Why are you being so dismissive of it? Do you think it's fine? Why do we have to talk about male strippers? It doesn't make a jot of difference to the issue other than to be reductive and crying 'but what about the men instead of dealing with the issue of women.

Women have been objectified and treated as second class citizens for generations. The playing field is not and has never been level for women and men. There is a long history of social and sexual inequality between men and women and we're STILL battling it today, and so must our children.

Some of the comments on this thread disgust me. Women and men prepared to see yet another generation of young women be objectified and have inequality normalised yet again.

Our children deserve better than the 'who-gives-a-shit' shrug and 'the girls love it and get paid, don't they?' comments that have been spewed thoughtlessly across this thread.

Kettlepotblack · 01/05/2018 17:06

Hear, hear Shegotbettedaviseyes

MavisBroom · 01/05/2018 17:10

The arguments are being a bit confused here if still talking about Hooters - it's wearing a tanktop, shorts and tanned tights, it's not a striptease bar that has special private booths you can go for a dance and chicken wings.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 01/05/2018 17:11

The arguments are being a bit confused here if still talking about Hooters

I'm not confused.

MillicentF · 01/05/2018 17:12

It's not exactly the same, I agree. But it is "woman as commodity" so the principle is the same.

MillicentF · 01/05/2018 17:12

Or "woman as decoration".

Badbilly · 01/05/2018 17:24

I think the location of Hooters in Nottingham can be a lot more easily explained by it being situated between the train station and The City Ground, Meadow Lane and Trent Bridge. Nobody in their right mind would put a normal restaurant there. Match days is the only time I have seen Hooters even remotely full. As restaurants go, the floors are sticky, the whole place needs a really ruddy good clean and hasn't been redecorated in years, the food is microwaved or deep fried straight out of a bag and it's eye-wateringly expensive. It really does rank among the worst places to eat in the city.

I was actually going to say that earlier-but got distracted by that thing called "Work" -damn inconvenient that.

I have never been in Hooters (or MacDonalds, come to that) but do see the football fans milling around outside on the trip from the station to the City Ground. I should imagine it is a very desolate place on the typically mentioned "Tuesday night in February".

I mentioned the Hotels, because earlier on in the thread (page one) there was something of a running joke that a posters Husband went in there because it was "near the hotel". I merely pointed out that it was, in fact, very very near to 3 Hotels.

You listed several other restaurants that were on offer, but, none of them are less than 400 yards from Hooters. In fact, from the reception area of Jury's Inn you can directly see Hooters.

I agree that Memsaab is a fantastic restaurant, but I wasn't offering a Tripadvisor post about restaurants in Nottingham, just pointing out that the posters Husband could have been right about it "being near the Hotel..."

Ah well, my attempt at humour fell incredibly flat... so I won't be giving up my day job anytime soon.

Yorkshirebetty · 01/05/2018 17:28

Why is it called "Hooters" then, MavisBroom ? Why not just give it a sports bar name and give the waitresses an option to wear trousers? Because it's all about the T and A.

Badbilly · 01/05/2018 17:32

MavisBroom

Hooters really hasn't worked over here and I'm surprised that Nottingham is still going now - Birmingham & London shut down over 15 years ago.

This is pure supposition, but I should imagine the building they are in is very low rental, being that the area has been earmarked for re-development for at least 20 years-only delayed by the usual politics, bureaucracy, and incompetent councils. Therefore their overheads are much lower than many of the city centre establishments. As another poster pointed out, I think it is only the football crowds that keep it going.

If the development of the area continues (there has been a marked increase in activity in the last few years) I would imagine it's only a matter of time before that building comes down too.

lizzie1970a · 01/05/2018 17:38

The name of the place is a slang word for women's breasts. It says it all really.

Other breastaurants are called Mugs & Jugs, Twin Peaks, Bombshells, Bone Daddy's Bikinis Sports Bar & Grill, Redneck Heaven. It's utterly bizarre in this day and age and I do look down on men that would go there.

MavisBroom · 01/05/2018 17:42

I didn't come on defending Hooters, I said it wasn't comparable to a strip joint, it lost business to the strip clubs that opened in broad street and also the Birmingham branch closed down 15 years ago so it obviously wasn't popular here. It was turned into a Wetherspoons pub for 10 years or so until the Paradise Forum complex was recently knocked down. I'll shut up now.

Nearlyadad · 01/05/2018 17:52

I’m a bloke and think Hooters obviously objectifies women and
entirely sympathise with the OP. I find the idea of taking children there disturbing quite frankly.
