Would you be pissed off if your partner went to one of these sleazy places? Am I overreacting to be pissed off about dh going to one when he knew I'd be cross about it ? I'm not hopping mad but I'm certainly very unimpressed!

What do the male waiters in Hooters wear?

theycallmebabydriver · 01/05/2018 13:20

I think the location of Hooters in Nottingham can be a lot more easily explained by it being situated between the train station and The City Ground, Meadow Lane and Trent Bridge. Nobody in their right mind would put a normal restaurant there. Match days is the only time I have seen Hooters even remotely full. As restaurants go, the floors are sticky, the whole place needs a really ruddy good clean and hasn't been redecorated in years, the food is microwaved or deep fried straight out of a bag and it's eye-wateringly expensive. It really does rank among the worst places to eat in the city.

On behalf of the city that I love, if you are thinking of going to Hooters please have a google and check out some of the fantastic places we have to eat and things there are to do. Nottingham is a terrific place to spend some time and if you spend even 5 mins of it in Hooters you have wasted 5 mins that you could have spent elsewhere (or even looking at boobs on the internet without paying 5 quid for 2/3rds of a pint if you can't live without looking at them for 5 mins).

NormskiNamechange · 01/05/2018 13:21

@MillicentF - you’re right. It’s just so difficult to ignore sometimes.

You’d almost think some women liked living in a patriarchal society!

Helmetbymidnight · 01/05/2018 13:22

I CANNOT believe this. Apparently, the WINGS are amazing. People travel for two hours in the car with their families for these wings.

NormskiNamechange · 01/05/2018 13:23

I really would think that my DP had lost his mind if he suggested a four hour round trip for some chicken (and boobs).

This is a chain restaurant not a Michelin starred restaurant!

theycallmebabydriver · 01/05/2018 13:52

Badbilly – from the Jury’s Inn would you not turn 90 degrees from the direction of Hooters and walk 3 mins to get to, the Fellows, Morton & Clayton or Canalhouse, there’s even a Via Fossa and a Whetherspoons at the same location or 1 min further to The Navigation. 2 Mins further around Nottingham Castle will get you to World Service, Fothergills, and The Crafty Crow. There’s also a whole host of Indian restaurants along Maid Marion Way including the consistently award winning Mem Saab.

Turn 180 degrees away from the direction of Hooters from the Premier Inn (so sited because it is less than 2 mins from the Capital FM Arena with all it's surrounding bars and restaurants) and walk 5-10 mins to get to Hockley / lace market where there’s so many places to eat it’s impossible to list them, my personal recommendations are, Bonzai, Bar Iberico (you are also close to Iberico World Tapas their main restaurant), Annies Burger Shack and of course Bunk which specialises in chicken wings www.bunkwings.com/

Nottingham is not a desolate wasteland with nothing but 2 hotels and a Hooters!

mirime · 01/05/2018 13:56

@theycallmebabydriver having visited Nottingham on many occasions as my in-laws live nearby I agree with you.

I remember when Hooters opened, there were adverts on the back of buses - no mention of it being a sports bar or of the food, it was a picture of a busty blonde.

As for people saying the women aren't forced into it, lets not forget if you're unemployed and claiming benefits you are forced to apply for jobs and can be sanctioned if you don't or if you turn down a job offer. If you applied there just to meet your quota and actually got the job your choices would be limited.

theaveragewife · 01/05/2018 14:06

The responses to hooters threads have changed so much in the 7 years I’ve been on MN, this thread has shown it. Nice work MN, vipers & FWR 🙌 It’s given me a much needed boost!

Steeley113 · 01/05/2018 14:12

I love hooters. All these women getting all upset over it and saying it’s objectifying women, what about things like the Dreamboys? Male strippers seem much more accepted then female! In fact, ‘ladies nights’ occur monthly in various locations around me but people would be up in arms if there was a female stripper 🙄

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 01/05/2018 14:15

Helmetbymidnight have I told you that I love you?

minderful · 01/05/2018 14:15

"Because if you aren't beautiful you can't work there."

Yes. I wonder what the outraged posters look like. I wonder if it's a misguided sense of superiority and knowing what's best for someone, jealousy or missing the irony of telling women what they can and can't do in the name of feminism.

Thank god you put those pesky podium girls and F1 models out of work!

JemIsMyNameNooneElseIsTheSame · 01/05/2018 14:17

Jesus, I never realised so many people loved wings/wingz.

theaveragewife · 01/05/2018 14:19

I know right! Hopefully now girls will be more likely to be in the driving seat rather than waving a flag? That might then inspire other girls to do the same......

minderful · 01/05/2018 14:22

@theaveragewife

It's unlikely a woman could compete with a man in F1.

Your argument isn't one said by the many pissed of and unemployed women who have been interviewed and written about this 'progress'.

Pumperthepumper · 01/05/2018 14:24

Steeley do you honestly see no difference between male strippers and female ones? Do you think they are treated equally in the industry? Do you think the numbers of each are roughly the same? Do you think that male strippers earn the same as female strippers, are at the same risk of assault/trafficking/coercion?

theaveragewife · 01/05/2018 14:31

There are no physical restrictions that would stop a woman from beating a man in F1.

I’m sorry they lost their jobs, I’m happy for social progression.

Limoncell0 · 01/05/2018 14:31

Some hilarious responses on this thread - thankyou. Grin

To HomeBrewDave / BeerBellyBob / LagerLivingLenny or whatever your name is -

You sound like a naff git on a wind-up. Don't come on here claiming to represent all men - particularly when you claim Hooters = "diversity." Grin Maybe try and get out a bit more?

Yes women may well wear bikinis on the beach or hot pants in nightclubs, but any muppet can see that this is not the point. I'm an ex-ballerina and spent half my time in lycra back in the day, as do swimmers, gymnasts and all sorts of sportspeople. But would I go out in a t-shirt with Hooters across the front? No I would not because it's naff and embarrassing.

Imagine a bar called "Pecs" where all the male waiters wore tight muscle-revealing t-shirts and shorts. The only reason women would go in there would be to take the piss. Nobody woman would take it remotely seriously and this is the difference.

Yes all men look at women, just as I may notice certain physical features in certain men and this is life. But fortunately, unlike you, most men have a bit more class.

As a pp said, would Donald Trump go in there, or Harvey Weinstein? Yes - both tossers of the highest order. Most men can do better than this.

Dahlietta · 01/05/2018 14:52

Lol I bet all of your hubbies go.

Bet my hubby doesn't. He hates chicken wings.

minderful · 01/05/2018 15:02

@theaveragewife

Not a physical restriction but men are likely to be better. It takes a lot of strength to race an F1 car. Holding your head during g force. Turning the wheel takes a lot of strength due to downforce, massive tyres, tiny steering wheels and small power steering motors ...

Then there's the benefit of men's shorter reaction times; a combination of strength and different (sex-based) processing strategies.

It isn't sexism stopping women competing with men in F1. It's ability.

@HaribolsMyCrack

I love motorsports and have driven and been driven at numerous track days and a handful of races.

I've met and chatted to Sabine. I'd love to be driven by her. I wouldn't be scared. It would be an amazing experience.

Despite you being able to name a brilliant female driver (and there are many more), they can't compete with men. See also, well, pretty much every other sport.

ILovethe90s · 01/05/2018 15:22

mindful

you talk bollocks

www.quora.com/Why-arent-there-any-F1-female-drivers

Motor racing has always been a masculine sport. F1 is no different. It has been wrongfully perceived that women do not processes the physical strength to drive an F1 car. That may have been true a few decades ago but with introduction of power steering, it cannot be used as an argument. I am pretty sure that most of the men and a few women ( for sake of gender equality) who read this answer would image search the last name on the list in incognito and rub one out. That's where the problem lies. Human mind does not judge them as a person with driving skills, but rather as a beauty queen

Idontdowindows · 01/05/2018 15:26

Thank god you put those pesky podium girls and F1 models out of work!

Yeah, and while we're at it, get those 5 year olds back in the mines where they belong!

cheshiremama89 · 01/05/2018 15:41

Frozen junk food, and young women being ogled.

I can see why it works, but haven't we come on further than this?
