Royal wedding/kid's party clash

A major first world problem to start off your week. And many of you will think this is ridiculous because the royal family are pointless, a drain on our taxes, etc etc. I get that.

But I'm shamelessly a big fan.

I've accepted an invite for my DCs to attend a 7 year old's birthday party over lunchtime on 19 May. We are very close to the family, me and the mum in particular. It's a given that the whole family would go.

But I want to watch all the TV coverage and see Harry and Meghan get wed!!

AiBU to be in a bind? Is it rude if I don't go and let DH take them?! WWYD?

You would rather watch the wedding (or more likely watch reporters standing reasonably near the location of the wedding repeating themselves) of two people who would not be remotely interested in your own wedding or life, rather than spending time with your family and a family you're very close to?

I don't like Eastenders, I'd rather watch Eastenders than spend time at a child's party. Even if I loved her mother. Even if the dad was Brad Pitt.

The wedding which the OP is interested in will happen once three times at most in a life time. The kid has probably got another 80 birthdays or so.

i doubt the jelly and ice cream and party bags will be happening for 80 years...

do real life. record telly and watch when it is dark. easy.

A 7 year olds party..... Or the Royal Wedding......
Hmmmm.
Neither thanks.

thor86 · 02/05/2018 13:16

ScrappyScap weddings of people who don't know or care about the OP happen literally hundreds of times a day. This one shouldn't be given any higher importance. These people aren't our betters or chosen by god. It's time people stopped acting like they are.

MinesaPinot · 02/05/2018 13:21

Well we've had to send Harry and Meg a 'Sorry we can't attend' card because we're off to the Cup Final. We've reserved the right to pop along after though, for the reception......!

Actually, I haven't told DH but I'm going to tape the wedding whilst we're at the footie and watch it the day after. That'll make his Sunday.

Get real! Live your life not the royals! OMG!

Earthakitty · 03/05/2018 07:21

What puzzles me us that you completely acknowledge that the Royals are "pointless, and a drain on our taxes " ......yet you still want to spend a whole day in front of the TV marvelling at a wedding of someone you don't know and who will never give a tiny toss about you.

Got a bit of a temper have we ?
Everyone else is managing to express their views in a calm and reasoned fashion.....
You sound like a petulant 3 year old with a nasty potty mouth into the bargain.
This is a comments board btw and not a Royal fan site.
Perhaps you could pour some of your chilled fizz over your head to cool off.

WomblerOfWimbledon · 03/05/2018 08:43

@Earthakitty are you arguing with yourself? Looks like you forgot to NC.

Who is this even aimed at?? Doesn't make sense!
