To have Kate Middleton as my new role model

Or the Duchess of Cambridge for those who get uptight about her name.

She is so poised. Takes everything in her stride (even giving birth). She looks genuinely happy and in love and in control.

Operation Kate starts May 1st so I've got two more days to slob around on Mumsnet

I wonder whether during labour she swore at William . As he told her ' you're doing really well ' she glared at him and told him to F off.

I love Kate and I love her make up! I don't think we should assume she is happy all the time. They have been supporting, a mental health charity so I guess somewhere along the line she has suffered depression.

I thought their interest stemmed from Diana.

The80sweregreat · 29/04/2018 11:31

She lost her cool once wrapping presents or something - rolled her eyes! They can’t be seen as human too often as they would be slated. Must be a fine line to walk. The rewards must make it all worth it though.

merrymouse · 29/04/2018 11:32

What normal 30 something gives birth & pulls on an outfit like that, it’s so dated!

She is dressed as a Royal presenting a new royal baby to the press.

It's her job.

You might not respect her job, but that is what it involves.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 29/04/2018 11:33

Ludicrous. There are plenty of women I would seek out as a role model before Kate Middleton.

Stopyourhavering64 · 29/04/2018 11:33

Ive stood next to her in the aisle at Waitrose, when they lived on Anglesey, and she used to regularly pop in probably to get her free coffee
No one bothered her, but I did have a look in her trolley to see what treats she was getting Wills Grin
I was amazed at how elegant and so slim she looked just doing the shopping and gawped at her gorgeous hair amazed at how glossy and bouncy it was, even living in wet and windy N Wales

Laiste · 29/04/2018 11:33

Teisan i thought the same.

Diana and What The Media Can Do To You.

pigeondujour · 29/04/2018 11:36

She is elegant, dignified, such a contrast to the Instagram/Kardashian rubbish.

Don't kid yourself. They're the original Kardashians.

RoseWhiteTips · 29/04/2018 11:38

What a bitchy thread. Jealous much!?

guinea36 · 29/04/2018 11:38

I’m quite sure I and most other women would manage to look ‘poised’after having a baby if they didn’t have to labour in a hideous public ward or shower afterwards in a filthy bathroom that resembled an abattoir. I’m sure access to a stylist, nanny and cleaner and not having to worry about getting by on £100 a week for nine months would help me look composed as well!

SerenDippitty · 29/04/2018 11:39

Probably not hard to stay slim when you have someone else to do the food shopping and cooking, your own well equipped gym and huge house and gardens to walk around as well as childcare on tap.

RoseWhiteTips · 29/04/2018 11:40

She is undeniably lovely. Imo - and in the view, no doubt, of many many others.

lalalaloopy · 29/04/2018 11:41

While I agree every woman should have a choice about how they live they life it doesn’t mean we can’t comment on the impact that choice has on the rest of society.

Kate as an individual is just doing her best & under intense scrutiny which must be hard. However she is largely admired for how well put together she is, her thinness & how she never steps out of line. I don’t think they should be a woman’s most attractive qualities.

Same with Kim K who sees posing naked as empowering & made tons of cash of it. I find the focus on plastic surgery & vanity plus peddling shite for cash not so good.

lizzie1970a · 29/04/2018 11:42

willynillypie - if that's what couples decide to do that's fine if the man is willing to be the breadwinner - but what has that got to do with feminism? Nothing! The woman is ultimately staying at home on the permission/agreement of the man. That's not equality as a man is still involved in one of your life decisions. He might be in agreement but only while the kids are young. It's not like a woman can choose that forever. Why should a man still be the sole provider for 20, 30, 40 years? So it isn't a choice without the help of a man, so it's nothing to do with equality. And any woman never wanting to go back to work after the kids no longer need her is living in the 1950s.

Tararhu · 29/04/2018 11:42

I think she performs her duty as a royal immaculately. She is like the queen in that respect and perfect for the role.

However, I’m not sure about her. She waited around living off her folks for about a decade before wills finally popped the question. I don’t think this is particularly admirable. Her sister is equally as entitled. Doesn’t work. Now married to a millionaire and just goes to the gym daily. I think it’s such a waste of a world class education. The sisters went to top schools and good universities but have used it to ‘marry well’.
What decade is this? 1950’s? Ok to stay at home when you have kids but I just think it’s extremely lazy to do so before your even married!

Viviennemary · 29/04/2018 11:42

I don't mind Kate Middleton too much. She is certainly an improvement on the majority of the 'royals'. But her life is mapped out before her. No money troubles, no childcare worries, But this serenity is an act I think. That's why Diana didn't please the royals. She found it too hard to keep up the act. A stepford princess like Kate is much more suited to their way of life.

biscuitraider · 29/04/2018 11:42

I thought that the purpose of feminism was the ability to chose what matters to us and what we want to do WITHOUT being ridiculed or judged by other women. Jesus.
Everybody judges to a certain degree, it's how we compare. To say the purpose of feminism is to choose what we want to do without being judged by other women obviously doesn't happen. Most Ops on mumsnet are very much judged and often rightly so, not so much judged, and not ridiculed either, but told that they aren't right, because basically some people speak a load of bollocks.

The80sweregreat · 29/04/2018 11:43

Nobody knows what they are really like.
We will never know because if we did they might find their days numbered. It’s all a very good PR exercise. It is what is - for now!

lizzie1970a · 29/04/2018 11:43

You might want want to look up the meaning of fascism too rather than chucking around terms you don't seem to have much of an in-depth understanding of.

lizzie1970a · 29/04/2018 11:44

Kate Middleton is like a 1950s housewife. She's done nothing for women to look up to.

lizzie1970a · 29/04/2018 11:45

And her choice to do that is up to her but it's nothing to do with free choice coming under feminism.

lizzie1970a · 29/04/2018 11:46

Why? Because that choice wouldn't be possible without the say-so of a man.

lalalaloopy · 29/04/2018 11:47

I don’t actualy mind the Royal family & quite like the Queen. However in this day & age why does Kate’s job involve donning an old fashioned dress after giving birth? Who is that meant to please?

Nikephorus · 29/04/2018 11:49

she works hard
When?! She has a team of people at home doing everything for her, including childcare. And she does so few public appearances it's ridiculous (and thinks that turning up to watch the tennis is a work thing)
If people actually think she's a role model it's no wonder this country is disappearing down the toilet.

RoseWhiteTips · 29/04/2018 11:50

TheDowagerCuntess

I am sure she would be leaving in joggers if she had any choice.

There are people out there who loathe 'joggers'. grin

I suspect Kate is among them.

This^^
