To have wanted to stab this woman at the ATM

user1485342611 · 25/04/2018 17:17

I went up to the ATM this afternoon and got there a split second behind another woman so just smiled at her and stood back.

She then proceeded to put her card in and out a couple of times doing different transactions, took out another card and did the same and then did a transaction on a third card. By the time she was finished there was half a dozen people waiting in the queue.

AIBU to think she was a selfish cow who should have let me go ahead when she knew she was going to be ages?

Yeah imagine using a cash point for what you need! Hmm

pictish · 25/04/2018 18:38

“I don't do aggressive driving but I definitely get road ragey & mutter to myself/my steering wheel at many points.”

Same here. But it looks like it’s just you and me because everyone else here is a constant embodiment of serenity.
Ho hum.

mustbemad17 · 25/04/2018 18:38

I wonder what their secret is 🤔🤔

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 25/04/2018 18:39

zibbidoo oh it isn't, ever, but it makes me feel better 😂 the way i see it, me thinking ragey thoughts or muttering murderous suggestions to myself means i'm not carrying that rage pent up for the rest of the day

Grin you know there’s a whole other option, right?

pictish · 25/04/2018 18:39

Lying, mainly.

QueenieMum · 25/04/2018 18:40

YABVVU OP. Yes it is annoying that the person in front of you at the supermarket has an issue that needs a supervisor. It is annoying when the person in font of you at the coffee shop orders 6 coffees because they're doing the office coffee run. That's life! ATM Woman had every right to complete what she set out to do just as you do. I'm assuming you were ahead of someone else in the queue too? What would have been annoying is someone pushing in to use an ATM with a large queue at it (that's happened to me). You are the equivalent of the person flashing every car in front of them on the motorway to intimidate the other out of their way. Totally unacceptable and unnecessary.

mustbemad17 · 25/04/2018 18:41

you know there's a whole other option right

Where's the fun in that 😂

lying, mainly

Yup, and doing it badly 🤥

JacquesHammer · 25/04/2018 18:47

Lying, mainly

Why? Bexause people don’t get wound up by petty shit they must be lying 😂

I genuinely don’t see the point. Doesn’t make anyone go any faster. It’s far easier just to be placid!

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 25/04/2018 18:48

I can't say I've ever had murderous thoughts at a cash point or in my car. I'm more likely to start day dreaming until it's my turn.
Not everyone is the same.

I drink too much of an evening and smoke though. Maybe I've internalised my rage and I'm self medicating instead. Confused

mustbemad17 · 25/04/2018 18:50

Maybe you are! I don't drink or smoke so no way of self medicating here 😂 have never actually stabbed or run anyone over tho, so something must be working 🌞

MereDintofPandiculation · 25/04/2018 18:50

Why don't they just do what I do and save it up at home and when they've got a fiver's worth, pay it into their bank account? Much easier all round! Because paying it into a bank requires visiting a branch, and for many of us the nearest branch is 10 miles or more away. We don't all live in city centres.

NoodlesLivesHere · 25/04/2018 18:51

I had a woman go absolutely berserk at me in Boots once because I dared to walk faster than her and get to the tills first.

I absolutely wasn't racing, I didn't even clock she was heading in the same direction as me.

Both her and her son starting laying into me for being overweight they both had at least 5 stone extra on them than I'm carrying so found this one a bit odd, selfish, rude, entitled and various swear words I haven't heard since my days on a drill square. They didn't even arrive at the till close to the same time as me. I ghosted them entirely which probably annoyed them more!

IMO over-reacting to the point of desiring violence or hurling actual abuse speaks far more about how negative you are for society than the person who has annoyed you is.

pictish · 25/04/2018 18:53

You can’t judge anyone by their thoughts, only their actions. In actuality I appear passive and polite...it is only in my head I am plotting slow cunticide.
Tongue in cheek...it’s a thing.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 25/04/2018 18:54

Ha ha Mad17 I wonder what their secret is? They're calm and serene and then go home and get smashed to release all the tension Grin

mustbemad17 · 25/04/2018 18:54

There is a huuuge difference between having stabby thoughts & actually laying into somebody. Had OP physically jumped this woman at the ATM then yeah, hands in the air OMG outrage

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 25/04/2018 18:55

Where's the fun in that 😂

Well it leaves you with a space to notice and laugh at the idiot with steam coming out their ears in the ATM queue. Grin

user1485342611 · 25/04/2018 18:56

Jeeze how many more times. I didn't literally feel like stabbing her. I used it as an expression - the way some people say "I'll kill him if he's late again".

I was pissed off because when I smiled and nodded the woman to go ahead she didn't indicate in any way that she had several transactions to do and if I was only doing one I should go ahead.

I do not blow my horn at cars who take a few seconds to get going at green lights, or sigh and huff when an elderly woman takes her time at the checkout or any of the things I've been accused of on this thread. Quite the opposite. Neither did I say a word to the woman at the ATM. I just sighed to myself and wished she'd had the cop on to suggest I go ahead if I was doing one transaction.

Damn, i thought my new ear plugs prevented the steam saga 😣 wonder if i still have the receipt 🤔

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 25/04/2018 18:58

It's worth holding back on the sighing and tutting though and as OP stated "she wished she'd said something" because she felt impatient.

You never know what kind of crazed lunatic you might be winding up. It could turn into some sort of heated street confrontation. The stuff of nightmares.

user1485342611 · 25/04/2018 19:00

Yes, that's why I'd never confront someone ILost. It's not worth it, but I do sometimes sigh inwardly.

OP posts:
neveradullmoment99 · 25/04/2018 19:01
Hmm
ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 25/04/2018 19:02

Sighing inwardly is my usual M.O. That's fine by me Grin

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 25/04/2018 19:03

What's that face never? Are you sighing inwardly?

notacooldad · 25/04/2018 19:04

I wonder what their secret is 🤔🤔
In my case a combination of things
First _ getting older ( or mature as I prefer) maybe a couple of decades ago I would have been a bit rage but I've mellowed, I've also become less selfish and learned to look at things from other point of view. Sure it was a slow train coming and in my teens to probably mid 30s I was quite arrogant and entitled. I try and apply the phrase' it's nice to be nice' The huge lesson I learned is the world does seem nicer back, maybe not all the time but I'm certainly happier now I'm not calling people names in my head and quietly seething.

Second- I actually enjoy not racing around. If someone beats me to the front of the queue I just play on my phone and take a moment to be calm

Thirdly , the realisation that not much really matters. If all the important boxes are ticked and everyone around me is ok everything else is just 'stuff' and I'll get done what I need to.

I'm certainly not a saint or a worthy person but that's how I cope seeing that you asked!

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 25/04/2018 19:08

Yeah agree about the getting older/calmer. I like your mellow vibe cooldad
