To have wanted to stab this woman at the ATM

I went up to the ATM this afternoon and got there a split second behind another woman so just smiled at her and stood back.

She then proceeded to put her card in and out a couple of times doing different transactions, took out another card and did the same and then did a transaction on a third card. By the time she was finished there was half a dozen people waiting in the queue.

AIBU to think she was a selfish cow who should have let me go ahead when she knew she was going to be ages?

But Zibbi if you'd arrived at the ATM at more or less the same time as someone else and you both hesitated and looked at each other before the other person smiled and nodded you ahead, would you not have said 'actually I'm going to be a while. You go first'. It's what I would have done.

I felt irritated by the woman, not literally dancing around wishing I had a knife in my hand.

Or you know maybe they’re rooting around to find enough money to ride the bus

I used to get 6 buses a day, for 2 years. I knew the difference between someone who just wanted to get rid of their coppers and someone who was struggling to find enough to pay.

OohMavis · 25/04/2018 17:36

Sometimes I wonder how people cope with life.

ShatnersBassoon · 25/04/2018 17:37

You great big meanie. There's no rule to say you've got to just get cash and quickly get out of the way. ATMs offer all sorts of services, and are there to keep people out of branches, not to keep oh so busy people happy.

JacquesHammer · 25/04/2018 17:37

I’m sure you thought you did. Appearances can be deceptive, no?

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 25/04/2018 17:37

Walk slowly down the bus holding onto every support beam.

Hmm it makes you angry that someone needs to hold onto the support beams??

would you not have said 'actually I'm going to be a while. You go first'.

Possibly. Depends how stressed I was. Sometimes I’m not thinking clearly when I’m highly stressed.

NotAnotherUserName5 · 25/04/2018 17:38

Yikes. Chill out a bit!

Perhaps she didn't have any money in the first two?

Annoying, but wouldn't get me all 'stabby'

A4710Rider · 25/04/2018 17:41

it makes you angry that someone needs to hold onto the support beams

No, it made me angry that a 15 second transaction could take 3 or 4 minutes

The other type of person was:

  1. Knew roughly where they were going.
  2. Had coins ready in their hand
  3. Sat down with a copy of the Metro.
extinctspecies · 25/04/2018 17:41

Yes, it's a bit annoying.

But I wouldn't be posting on an internet forum about it unless the rest of my life was insanely dull.

liz70 · 25/04/2018 17:42

All these advances and innovations to make life more convenient and "instant" just seem to mean that many people nowadays don't have the patience of a gnat, it seems.

LucyEvans26 · 25/04/2018 17:43

I feel your anger!! I would of stood loudly huffing and puffing- I have NO patience

glasshalffull2018 · 25/04/2018 17:43

YABU - seriously it's only three cards, I thought you had been scammed when I started reading this. She got there first and you should have walked faster. Be thankful you didn’t get scammed and move on

LostInShoebiz · 25/04/2018 17:43

Did she think it was winner stays on?

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 25/04/2018 17:44

No, it made me angry that a 15 second transaction could take 3 or 4 minutes

So what on earth do the support beams have to do with it? Confused

Lovemusic33 · 25/04/2018 17:44

People need to learn to chill out a bit. I used to get stressed at things like this but now I stop and think.

Like the lady in front of me in the supermarket who talks non stop to the cashier and even after she paid she continipues to talk. I used to get a bit annoyed but now I realise that the lady probably doesn’t see anyone all week and could be quite lonely, talking to the cashier probably made her day/week.

The woman at the cash machine probably had several accounts to check, she might have been desperate to find £10 in one of them to pay for some bread and milk? Why can’t she check several cards? Why can’t she take her time?

People are alway in such a rush and hate waiting when most of the time they have nowhere better to be.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 25/04/2018 17:46

No you wouldn’t of.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 25/04/2018 17:46

Sorry but this is a great example of what's wrong with the world. Everyone out for themselves, so wrapped up in their own life they can't pause and wait for anyone else.

The rage because you can't have something Right Now, whether that's your shopping, your meal, your twenty quid from the machine is absurd. People even getting in a rage because a page takes 5 seconds to load on a computer screen.

Take a step back and have some bloody patience.

Gottagetmoving · 25/04/2018 17:47

Your attitude is sadly typical of lots of people today, can't wait patiently, entitled and angry.
It'll kill you eventually.. Grin

GreenTulips · 25/04/2018 17:47

Well some people like to faff and annoy others.

Like to BIG shoppers at the tills at lunch time
The gaffers who haven't got their purse or glasses ready at the check out/bus/train etc

They have all the time in the world and think everybody else does aswell.

NotAgainYoda · 25/04/2018 17:48

Well I guess she didn't know how busy and important you are.

leggere · 25/04/2018 17:48

I've often seen that expression used on MN, feeling stabby or could have stabbed something/someone. Stop pretending it's never been posted before! Anyway, I find deep breathing helps when waiting in a queue and don't forget, the brits are famous for forming orderly queues so we can't let the side down. YABU for being impatient, she got there just before you. However.....she could have said "I'm going to be a while, would you like to go first?" How's that for sitting on the fence? Smile

NotACleverName · 25/04/2018 17:48

U ok hun?

liz70 · 25/04/2018 17:48

Just do online banking and pay by card for everything when shopping, if your time is that precious. it probably isn't-

notacooldad · 25/04/2018 17:51

I feel your anger!! I would of stood loudly huffing and puffing Ihave NO patience

You feel it's ok to ok to be intimidate people? That's how it can feel.
Seriously some people really need to cool their jets.

How was that women supposed to know you were doing a quick transaction. She could have thought that you was going to be a long action compared to what she was going to do.

Just do what most people do and play on phone or something.
