to not like the word 'c**t' being used as a 'cool' insult by celebrities

Am I at odds with the world or stuck in a time warp where people don't use this word as an insult, but as anglo-saxon for the beautiful female body part used for sex and procreation? Since when do men and women think it's ok to appropriate the best part of the female body to mean the worst of humanity? And no, I don't think it is the same as the analogy of black people owning the 'n' word. Be interested in people's thoughts.

I'm totally in the same camp as you, Bertrand. I detest it. I suspect whoever said it's an age thing is on the money.

metalmum15 · 22/04/2018 18:44

I love the word cunt, short and sharp. A bit like twat. And dick. It gets the point across.

DanceDisaster · 22/04/2018 20:32

To those who find it mysoginistic, is that just because it’s the word for vulva? Is it any more mysoginistic than dick, cock or knob is anti-male? Genuine question! I’m waiting to be educated Smile.

“those who find it mysoginistic, is that just because it’s the word for vulva? Is it any more mysoginistic than dick, cock or knob is anti-male? Genuine question! I’m waiting to be educated”

Ok-l’ll bite!

There is a difference. Dick, cock and knob have never been the word you reach for when you are loiking for a really stinging offensive swear/insult. . I would probably use dick, cock and knob to my own teenage children. Cunt? Not so much.

Smeddum · 22/04/2018 23:15

See I view dick as an insult worse than cunt. Calling someone a dick is about the worst thing I can say imo.

FASH84 · 22/04/2018 23:19

Reclaim it OP! in my student house we used it as a term of affection for precisely your reasoning. It is a beautiful and incredible thing. If you haven't already, I'd recommend seeing the vagina monologues.

Imstickingwiththisone · 22/04/2018 23:26

What about prick? I would only say that about someone I really hated.

SlimGin · 22/04/2018 23:37

Reclaim it
I agree with this. I do find the term misogynistic although most people use it because they're scrambling for the most powerful word. Reclaim cunt. Cunts are great. Genitals are great. Be more creative with insults.

Duchessgummybuns · 23/04/2018 00:38

DP and I use it as a term of endearment... ie “I love you don’t I cunt?”

Usually also with a dodgy Australian accent but I think that’s a separate issue Grin

LassWiADelicateAir · 23/04/2018 00:57

Im in Scotland, everyone around here uses cunt as a term of endearment

I'm in Scotland- no everyone does not. I wouldn't want anything to do with anyone who used it as a term of endearment.

I loathe "cunt" as a swear word or insult. It is deeply misogynist. I fear I am alone in this view

Agreed.

LassWiADelicateAir · 23/04/2018 01:01

I don't think it is possible to reclaim it. It is irretrievably misogynistic.

I don't use any of the words for genitals as swear words. I don't understand the reasoning behind it. As you say genitals are create. They made all of use. I don't understand why the worst thing you can call someone is a word for genitals.

DanceDisaster · 23/04/2018 06:25

Ok-l’ll bite!

Confused I specifically said I was genuinely asking as I didn’t know. I really wasn’t trying to goad anyone. I simply didn’t get what the difference was.

Thanks for clarifying your position though. Genuinely!

Christ it’s difficult to have a conversation on here sometimes without inadvertently irritating someone.

BertrandRussell · 23/04/2018 06:29

"See I view dick as an insult worse than cunt. Calling someone a dick is about the worst thing I can say imo."
This certainly isn't a commonly held view-not the BBC, all other broadcasters, schools, publishers, social media moderators........

notacooldad · 23/04/2018 06:32

In our household (3 males 1 female) it's a throwaway term that is said light hearted. If DS1 or 2 do something dft we say something like 'oh for goodness sake, don't be a dick'. No one ever uses the word cunt. I'm not sure why, it just doesn't happen

BertrandRussell · 23/04/2018 06:33

Sorry, Dancedisaster, I realise that sounded snippy. But surely it's obvious that cunt is regarded as a much "stronger" word than dick or knob? Apart from anything else, it's post watershed and the others aren't.

DanceDisaster · 23/04/2018 06:42

Hmmm we don’t use anycswear words with our DCs as they’re teeny. I’m pretty sure dick was a casual term in my house growing up (or as teenagers / young adults). Fuck, cunt and wanker were the really bad words which we wouldn’t say in front of our parents. I think we used all three about as freely as each other though. I do think cunt us supposed to be the worst one, but I only discovered that when I became an adult and moved from Ireland to England (age 19). Bunch of cunts was still said pretty lightheartedly at university though. Thinking about it, was there an episode of sex and the city where someone pointed out how much they hated the word? I don’t think I’d heard of it being so offensive till then.

Memorably, an acquaintance of mine at university made it clear to anyone who’d listen how much she hated the word cunt, but the freely used a very disablist term with abandon. She got a Hmm from me.

DanceDisaster · 23/04/2018 06:47

It’s weird, because now I think wanker is quite mild. It was definitely really bad growing up. Wonder if it’s regional...

ChinnyReckon1 · 23/04/2018 06:47

Bertrand already did this thread. Just Google that OP.

Accountant222 · 23/04/2018 06:53

It's a word I hate personally, but sometimes, just sometimes there is no other word to use to describe someone.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 23/04/2018 06:54

My cunt isn’t beautiful, nor the best part of me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a fun piece of kit to be in possession of, and over the years has been invaluable in the ejecting-children-from-the-innards malarkey, but I’d not like to think it’s the be all and end all of my existence.

BertrandRussell · 23/04/2018 06:58

"It's a word I hate personally, but sometimes, just sometimes there is no other word to use to describe someone."
See-that's what I mean. You look for the worst possible thing to describe somebody awful-and the word for a woman's genitals is the word that comes to mind........

VileyRose · 23/04/2018 07:08

I totally agree OP.

Jaxtellerswife · 23/04/2018 07:10

Ohforcodshake, oh yes the comedy element of the film really 'oi you soppy c*nt'GrinGrin

surferjet · 23/04/2018 07:10

Knob dick & cock would be a firm of solicitors in a carry on film - they’re mild insults & regularly heard on TV.

Cunt is on a different level.
It’s the most insulting swear word you can use & I’ve never heard it on TV.
I can’t understand how any woman thinks it’s ‘cool’ Hmm

DanceDisaster · 23/04/2018 07:11

If anyone’s in the market for an alternative, I overheard someone calling their friend a ball root the other day. Thought that was adequately foul for an insult.
