The pornstar look

PinkbicyclesinBerlin · 17/04/2018 12:22

I know, I know we should not be judging each other but the pornstar look? Why would you do that to yourself, over inflated boobs, over inflated lips what is it about it that appeals to some women. I presume men are attracted to it because it screams sexually interesting but I cannot understand why women are drawn to it. AIBU

Hmm, I've just had a google and it seems Take Me Out is not so bad. But that's what I remember thinking about these dating shows - god they all look so fake and overglossy. I realise now OP is more talking about the surgery side of things.

Beaverhausen · 17/04/2018 13:18

I once read that people who tend to over tattoo or who are addicted to cosmetic surgery and tend to go overboard are very insecure and crave the attention.

I also believe people at times are just not satisfied with how they look along with the added pressure from the media outlets and fashion industry on how women should look.

Just take a look at certain reality television programmes, where those girls spend thousands on cosmetic surgery to enhance their lips, boobs, bums and everything else. It is an obsession no matter how unhealthy we might think it is.

HonkyWonkWoman · 17/04/2018 13:18

Not a look that I would go for but whatever! It's up to them isn't it?
Don't want the all over tattoo look either but again, whatever.
If we're allowed to give an opinion on this look without everyone jumping down our throats on Mn. I would say that it's very unnatural and imo ugly!
As for men being attracted to this look! Mmmm! I doubt the majority do to be fair.

PinkbicyclesinBerlin · 17/04/2018 13:19

But you could argue that clearly there's something in our media that is making certain looks attractive, and why women latch onto it.

I think that is probably true. I think in many ways women are becoming more and more objectified in western culture and they are absorbing this message and taken their value on an even greater scale from that than in the past.

Lol love it.

I’m a middle aged man and to me the “porn star look” really does nothing for me I look at them as false people same thing happens with some men “peacocks” I guess it’s just vanity really each to there own if they feel comfortable with the way they look be it porn star, goth, punk, natural the list goes on, who is anyone to judge then if that’s what they like best of luck to them

TatianaLarina · 17/04/2018 13:27

Because it expresses their personality?

It doesn’t though. They’re suppressing their own personality in favour of a stereotype.

It’s an impersonation of what they believe men to find attractive, which ironically many men don’t. The kind of guys the pornstar look appeals to are not the most desirable.

JaneJeffer · 17/04/2018 13:30

Of course they're entitled to look how they want and maybe it makes them happier but I think it's a shame that many women ruin their natural good looks by doing too many procedures.

JaneJeffer · 17/04/2018 13:34

And a lot of young men are also sporting an over-done look, plucked eyebrows, fake tan, veneers, etc. Which isn't very attractive IMO.

Purplehammer · 17/04/2018 13:34

what a horrible judgey thread
Yes it is judgey but if anyone told me that they don’t judge others I would know that they were lying.
People don’t admit it but we all judge at some time.

VladmirsPoutine · 17/04/2018 13:34

This thread is very tasteless. So what if a woman wants to alter her face. It's hers and if she has the finances then it's her prerogative. Similarly if a woman wants to be a footballer's wife. Similarly if she wants to be a porn star or look like one - it's her look out.

And what is wrong with large breasts and big lips and wide hips or a Kim K arse.

Sparklesocks · 17/04/2018 13:34

Well there's more media to absorb than ever before - we have the internet now, social media, 24 hour TV with hundreds of channels, there's more photoshopping/editing/filters than ever before.

Additionally the looks are marketed as attainable - now there is so much more choice of make up than there ever was (never heard of contouring a few years ago!), there are tutorials on youtube, laxative 'weight loss' teas are advertised by reality stars, plastic surgery is less taboo and more likely to offer affordable payment plans etc.

You can see why it would impact young women so heavily, especially those who are particularly insecure.

When I grew up in the 90s sure there were skinny models and airbrushing in magazines, page 3 and lads mags girls etc, but nothing like there is now. I don't think we really have any idea how a lot of these celebs look as the images we see are so heavily retouched. I do feel sorry for young women growing up today, it must be incredibly difficult on top of the existing hormones etc.

Mightymucks · 17/04/2018 13:36

t doesn’t though. They’re suppressing their own personality in favour of a stereotype.

But how do you know they don’t identify with the stereotype? Women dress like all sorts of stereotypes all the time, the business suit, the Boden Mum, folksy, alternative. Why single out one stereotype and tell them that they are wrong?

Because they are young, female, generally working class or nouveau riche and don’t subscribe to the stereotype you would choose for yourself?

It’s an impersonation of what they believe men to find attractive, which ironically many men don’t. The kind of guys the pornstar look appeals to are not the most desirable.

That’s reductive and kind of offensive. And it’s a generalisation. You’re just assuming that they all think that and none of them liked the way it looked. That type of man might not be desirable to you, but you are not them.

And besides, what’s wrong with a heterosexual woman dressing in a way she believes is attractive to men (or women actually)? The sort of person she wants to attract? Most women do that to one extent or another at some point, so to judge another woman because her interpretation of it is different to yours is a bit crap.

Mightymucks · 17/04/2018 13:37

Incidentally, this look is out of fashion and mainly quite niche now. Even Posh had her implants out.

FizzyGreenWater · 17/04/2018 13:37

They’re suppressing their own personality in favour of a stereotype.

Maybe so but so do most people to be fair.

The pornstar look
The surfer dude look
The Boden/Joules clad mummy look
The rock chick look
The ageing goth look
The 'when I'm old I'll wear purple' cool grannies
The Dadrock chinos/t-shirt crowd
The lentil-knitting Birkiewoman
The rugby lad look

I could go on.

limoncello84 · 17/04/2018 13:45

Are you referring to women just have surgery etc to look like that or are you judging women who naturally look like that too?

Treacletoots · 17/04/2018 13:46

This is all very ‘Young women! Don’t be controlled by middle aged men! Be controlled by middle aged women!’

Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.

Ha at @BuggerBugger This.

If only the world would stop trying to tell other people what to think / say/ do we'd all be a happier bunch of peeps.

TatianaLarina · 17/04/2018 13:52

Maybe so but so do most people to be fair

Not sure about most but certainly some.

Only a minority resort to fakery and surgery to achieve their desired look though.

I think there’s a difference between being conformist and dressing like your tribe - which can often be a lack of imagination - and actively altering your appearance with enhancements.

PinkbicyclesinBerlin · 17/04/2018 13:52

are you judging women who naturally look like that too?

Women don’t naturally look like this.

OP posts:
TriHard27 · 17/04/2018 13:54

Ive got big boobs and long blonde hair and dress to show off my figure. It’s a look I think I do well I suppose. If I had a different figure or liked the goth look for example then I’d dress for that but this is what I’ve got currently so I go with it. Grin
Although would never have surgery.

Bluntness100 · 17/04/2018 13:54

I think this thread is very wrong and judgemental. Women can look as they please. It's always women against women isn't it?

There are plenty of looks that I personally would not sport. From gothic to middle aged librarian, and yes, over sexualised would be one of them, but if someone wishes to look like that they should go for it and not be judged and commented on by other women like the op.

Op it's fine for you to say it's not for me personally. However I'm sure there are lots of looks you personally wouldn't consider and don't "understand" why the person likes it. Except in this case, uou do understand it, you just don't like when women look that way.

It's none of your business. I'm fairly sure plenty of women look at you and don't understand why you chose to look as you do and would chose not to look as you do.

VladmirsPoutine · 17/04/2018 13:55

Have you met all the women in the world to confidently say that no woman anywhere naturally has big lips or large breasts? When did you become Chief of what women (should) look like?

PinkbicyclesinBerlin · 17/04/2018 13:56

If only the world would stop trying to tell other people what to think / say/ do we'd all be a happier bunch of peeps.

I don’t agree with this because of this

Well there's more media to absorb than ever before - we have the internet now, social media, 24 hour TV with hundreds of channels, there's morephotoshopping/editing/filters than ever before.

Personally I think all of this is down to self esteem or lack of it. I think the same is probably true of the fitness look someone mentioned up thread to a lesser extent maybe.

OP posts:
PinkbicyclesinBerlin · 17/04/2018 13:57

Vlad I am chief of nothing. I have one opinion I am listening to other opinions.

OP posts:
TatianaLarina · 17/04/2018 13:58

Why single out one stereotype and tell them that they are wrong?

I haven’t said they are wrong, just analysing the phenomenon.

PinkbicyclesinBerlin · 17/04/2018 13:59

uou do understand it

Nope I don’t understand it. I have views on it. Others have different views on it. I am interested in hearing them. That is the thread.
