The pornstar look

I know, I know we should not be judging each other but the pornstar look? Why would you do that to yourself, over inflated boobs, over inflated lips what is it about it that appeals to some women. I presume men are attracted to it because it screams sexually interesting but I cannot understand why women are drawn to it. AIBU

Sorry

The pornstar look
JacintaJones · 17/04/2018 20:50

I didn't realise this posted the first time.

In any case they don't look like porn stars or Kardashians.

PinkbicyclesinBerlin · 17/04/2018 20:52

I'm certainly not seeing women with the 'porn star' look in my every day life.

Funnily enough this thread came from seeing the look in the flesh today and (hoking up the auld judgy pants) wondering why the fuck would you do that to yourself. You have some well made interesting points though about this extending beyond the male gaze aspect of it.

Are the lesbian women who partake in the look trying to attract other women too? or is it that women are attracted to the look.

I always think it’s more about social signaling of what tribe you belong to.

Have you seen Grayson Perry’s stuff about class? It always makes me think of that.

Mydoghatesthebath · 17/04/2018 20:55

Yes jac are we to hear your views on ladylike behaviour and demeanour on this thread too Wink

Teacuphiccup · 17/04/2018 20:59

Where I live women definitely do walk around in real life with the ‘porn star look’ as it has been dubbed.
But i live somewhere quintessentially working class far more Geordie shore than made in chealsea

JacintaJones · 17/04/2018 21:01

Is that a request Doggy?

If so my one and only stipulation has always been that its not good form to flash your backside to daily mail journos.
I'm more than happy to have had the opportunity to have shared this advice with you once again.

Now, lets not derail this thread with issues you've apparently chosen to transfer from another, lest you be mistaken for a dog with a bone.

JacintaJones · 17/04/2018 21:03

Agreed Hiccup

I used to work in Liverpool, every other woman in certain areas sported this look, from age fifteen to fifty five.

I didn't think of it as 'porn star'. Its just their idea of what looks good.

Teacuphiccup · 17/04/2018 21:04

Also the beauty shop I use is like the centre of the universe, it’s a real community and it’s entirely female.
Women spend hours in there getting treatments and talking about things, getting and giving advise. Kind of like a real life Mumsnet.
I don’t think that aspect of it can be overlooked either.

GodYouMakeMeCringe · 17/04/2018 21:09

Ah OP, but you hoiked the judgy pants because it was unusual for you to see a woman in 'normal life' with that look. Because you don't see it in 'normal life' everyday.

I'm definitely not seeing abnormally enhanced breasts, arses or lips within my social circle. Or at work. Or in the local pubs or restaurants. Or in the local supermarkets.

It's really not very common.

Common is attractive women wearing smart/individual/casual/quirky clothes or not. Or average women wearing smart/individual/casual/quirky clothes or not. Or unattractive women wearing smart/individual/casual/quirky clothes or not. And varying degrees of make up, hairstyles, manicures etc from not at all to the other extreme.

I probably see 100 women with nothing remarkable at all about their appearance for every woman who may have had cosmetic enhancements or appears to be presenting themselves in a 'sexualised' manner.

We all have internalised opinions and judgements about people - even if we don't. However, I don't know why a 'porn-star' look would be more difficult to understand than someone who appears to give no fucks whatsoever about how they look.

I struggle to understand either - but equally so.

PinkbicyclesinBerlin · 17/04/2018 21:21

It's really not very common.

I certainly wasn’t suggesting it was extremely common. I was wondering why on Earth someone would do it to themselves? At the same time that some women are having boob reductions because it affects their quality of life why are others building up their breasts causing the same health implications? Why fill your lips to a completely unnaturally exaggerated proportion almost to bursting point. That was the question.

OP posts:
Teacuphiccup · 17/04/2018 21:22

Because they think it looks good

Teacuphiccup · 17/04/2018 21:25

Why do people poke holes in their skin and put metal through them to make their earlobes shiny?
Why do people impale their skin with needles and put ink in them to paint pictures on their skin?

Because they think it looks good

JacintaJones · 17/04/2018 21:25

Yes they think it looks good, plus the women whose lifestyles they would wish to emulate look that way.

They are copying those whom they admire.
To a greater or lesser degree we're all guilty of that.

Twofishfingers · 17/04/2018 21:29

There is a significant difference between having your ears pierced or a tattoo to having full blown lips, full makeup, fake boobs and whatever else, fake nails, and very sexy clothes. I'm surprised some people can't make the difference.

The porn star look is pretty extreme.

happymummy12345 · 17/04/2018 21:32

I haven't read the thread, but surely it's an individual choice how we choose to look? We all have the right to dress and look however we want. What anybody else chooses to wear or do or have done in order to change their appearance in any way is surely nobody's business but their own?

I had bleached blonde hair when I was 16, and I was judged badly for it. People said it looked cheap and tacky. I used to and still do wear large hoop earrings. Again people said it was chavvy.
I've had long acrylic nails (approximately 1/2 an inch from the end of my finger) for the past 10 years, I still have them. I know many people hate acrylics, especially long ones. But I love them.
People judged me for my choices, I don't see why. It was nothing to do with anyone else.

Teacuphiccup · 17/04/2018 21:33

Not really, go down the diamond strip in Newcastle on a Saturday night and I can guarantee you can reach out your arm and touch 5 women drsssed like that wherever you’re standing.

Lellikelly26 · 17/04/2018 21:37

I don’t like the look. It looks ridiculous, like they are making a charicature of themselves. It is sad that some girls aspire to that. Surely they have more to offer the world than masquerading as a moronic sex doll

Bluntness100 · 17/04/2018 21:43

Ffs. Because they think it's looks good. They think they look attractive. They think men they are trying to attract like it. There is nothing wrong with this.

How many times do you need the answer? Or will you just keep asking question repeatedly. What is the definitiin of madness? Doing the same thing the same way repeatedly and expecting a different answer.

Post a pic of yourself, let's all see if your a healthy weight, if you're hair is well groomed, your skin well cared for? Because if not, why would you do that to yourself?

No? Not bang up for it? Don't like the idea of us asking you?

You have your answer. Move on. What's next on your agenda? Why are obese people obese? Why do they do that to themselves? Maybe it's the ones with rainbow hair. Why do thy do that to themselves? What about the folks with tattoos, do you want to know about their motives too..because, oh that's right. You just don't understand it, and no matter how many of us answer the question, you will just keep repeating it with wide eyed innocence.

Mydoghatesthebath · 17/04/2018 21:55

jack you were slightly more judgmental on the other thread but you are right that’s done.

Bluntness

Couldn’t agree more just bore off the haters as my dds would say.

Why have tattoos, piercings, Botox, perms Grin wigs, be obese, go on the X factor wen you can’t fucking sing, so drugs, have affairs, have kids, have an abortion/don’t have kids etc etc

Generally because it’s what you want to do

Or should we again say it’s what individual women want to do .

Beaks out.

JacintaJones · 17/04/2018 22:13

With respect Dog, the other thread had a separate subject matter.

Bluntness100 · 17/04/2018 22:13

This constant theme of women judging other women on their looks really annoys me. The op and I would never be friends, I could not tolerate someone like that and I will judge her for it, because it speaks to who she is. And what is it we say on here? When someone tells you who they are. Listen.

You never see men posting this shit about each other and their looks.

I can't say I've seen a lot of porn stars but they all look different from what I know. As a pp said, even saying these women look like porn stars is simply hateful.

DowhatIwant · 17/04/2018 22:30

Ha! This thread totally makes me laugh. I joined just to respond.

I have what the OP described as 'pornstar look'.

I have very large breast implants, lots of filler, bleach blonde hair extensions etc etc.

Why? Because I like it- and I have the confidence to not give a shit what anyone (male or female) thinks.

I am not overtly sexual, no self esteem issues, am highly educated and work in a professional medical field and can financially support myself to keep up maintenance.

If you don't like it, look away. Bad reactions only highlight to me the other persons insecurites Wink

LemonysSnicket · 17/04/2018 22:35

When you alter your appearance you just find some other aspect to be unhappy about ... then you keep going and going until your perception of your normal self is twisted and you don’t know how to go back or realise that you’ve gone too far.
Or if all of their friends have that look they see it as very normal.
Or they like it.

Mydoghatesthebath · 17/04/2018 22:35

jac

Nope very similar the first disgraceful and subsequently deleted thread was discussing women’s appearance dress and choices and this one,,, oh wait.

Bore off
