The pornstar look

PinkbicyclesinBerlin · 17/04/2018 12:22

I know, I know we should not be judging each other but the pornstar look? Why would you do that to yourself, over inflated boobs, over inflated lips what is it about it that appeals to some women. I presume men are attracted to it because it screams sexually interesting but I cannot understand why women are drawn to it. AIBU

I really don’t know... I just didn’t want to make the assumption it was necessarily a heterosexual thing ... however, as the pornstar look is all about excentuating features that are associated with female sexual attractiveness I don’t see why it’s necessarily a male thing.

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 17/04/2018 19:19

Why is it patronising to say that we all make choices shaped by society?

I mean you’d have to be a robot to not be influenced by the media and the opinions of others.

If we all had total free choice we’d have men walking round in skirts, religious beliefs would be evenly distributed across the globe and advertisers wouldn’t spend millions on their silly lifestyle ads.

Why do people take such offence at the idea that we are influenced by outside sources?

Mydoghatesthebath · 17/04/2018 19:20

I find the phrase the porn star look deeply mysogynistic and very unpleasant.

If you watch porn there is no look! The whole point of porn is it’s complete diversity to appeal to anyone’s fantasy.

Very ignorant and stupid thread

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 17/04/2018 19:26

Go back to the echo chamber of the feminist board. The rest of us have moved on.

That’s really unfair, Mydog the feminist board would actually be the last place to judge women for how they dress. They generally support the individual woman’s choices whilst being critical of systems that put pressure on women to dress or act in any way they don’t feel comfortable with.

Certcert · 17/04/2018 19:28

Have you met all the women in the world to confidently say that no woman anywhere naturally has big lips or large breasts? When did you become Chief of what women (should) look like

This.

Ivebeenaroundtheblock · 17/04/2018 19:29

Bumblefuddle you yourself in posts 16:43 and 16:45 say it yourself; accused of having surgery, degraded and belittled, as well as sexual harassment. All potentially dangerous situations.
I don’t believe anyone achieves this look naturally.
Glued on eyelashes like a broom? Spaypainted makeup with no definition? All fake attempts to mask insecurities and attract attention.
I don’t doubt the intellect of gullible young people for this but I doubt their long term mental well-being.

coconuttella · 17/04/2018 19:30

A bit of an over-reaction! No one is saying that all porn stars have that look, but everyone gets what is meant my the ‘porn star look’ because there’s more than a grain of truth in it

JacintaJones · 17/04/2018 19:45

Why do women get lip fillers, boob jobs, fake tans, false nails, massive eyebrows, lash extensions, layers of countouring etc?

Is this now 'the porn star look'?

I thought they were trying to emulate the Kardashians but then I don't watch much porn.....

Aridane · 17/04/2018 19:56

I really don’t think the OP has watched much porn - there is a HUGE variety of women in porn!

Ivebeenaroundtheblock · 17/04/2018 20:03

Jacinta, trying to emulate a truly disfunctional family.
Meanwhile I see fellows who look like characters from Duck Dynasty...
Really silly all around. Everyone should embrace their inner natural beauty, which might just be a wonderful sense of compassion and interest in the world.

PinkbicyclesinBerlin · 17/04/2018 20:05

No I can’t say that I have but the term come from the ‘Lola Ferrari ilk porn star genre’ that is a very distinctive type of look. Once again, one which is not at all natural, no matter how many posters try to tell me she is the spitting image of their daughters. Hmm

OP posts:
JacintaJones · 17/04/2018 20:07

I think the women who go to such lengths don't feel very beautiful so they use facial injections and other treatments to make themselves feel better.

More acceptable, both to themselves and others.
I include the Kardashians in this appraisal.

HotSauceCommittee · 17/04/2018 20:08

I’m 45, I have two kids and am an old indie goth rocker type. The person who I call my best friend at work is in her mid 20s, has fake tan, long blonde hair, lips fillers and long gel nails. I love her, she is ace. That’s all. She makes work an entertained and hilarious and honest place to be.

Mightymucks · 17/04/2018 20:09

An awful lot of this is just snobbery and classism. Let’s laugh at all the awful common girls.

Teacuphiccup · 17/04/2018 20:14

Totally agree mucks

TheyMostlyComeOutAtNightMostly · 17/04/2018 20:23

The upside of the Not Found In Nature/fake/TOWIE/pornified look is that because it’s all available off the shelf it’s actually quite democratic.

When I was a young woman I was never in a million years going to be naturally beautiful like Katie Price was before she had all her work done, because my nose, skin, hair, lips and eyebrows were all very substandard. But with a tonne of foundation, heavy contouring, sharpie eyebrows, peroxide, straighteners, extensions, lip filler and falsies (or implants) and lots of work and practice I could have had a perfectly good stab at the TOWIE look.

JacintaJones · 17/04/2018 20:27

It is a 'common' look though.
Thats not to presume that all common people look this way, because that's evidently not the case.

I'm common if its use is euphemistic and means working class. I wouldn't emulate this look.

So yes its laughing at the WC but not bevause they're working class.

Its not classism.

JacintaJones · 17/04/2018 20:28

Good point Mostly

Holowiwi · 17/04/2018 20:28

It's interesting that this particular 'look' seems to be a cause for concern for some people personally I am a lot more worried about the obese 'look', that is quite popular these days. There is certainly a lot more people following that fashion trend than the pornstar look that's for sure Hmm

Mydoghatesthebath · 17/04/2018 20:30

IfyouseeRitaMorino

Yes I apologise I generalised snd I was wrong just one poster very patronising about her superior debates on the feminist board.

I do apologise and it was a stupid thing to post

Mydoghatesthebath · 17/04/2018 20:31

Oh god jacinta again with the class thing.

You see this look in ‘made in chelsea’ and they ain’t poor.

LatIt · 17/04/2018 20:34

I'm common and laughing at this 'common girl' look.

Totally off topic but does anyone else think Chloe Simms looks absolutely lovely at the moment?

JacintaJones · 17/04/2018 20:38

I wouldn't know Doggy.
I've never watched that programme.

I'm basing my opinion on actual people whom I've met.

JacintaJones · 17/04/2018 20:43

I presume these girls are from 'Made in Chelsea'?

The pornstar look
GodYouMakeMeCringe · 17/04/2018 20:43

OP - there are some lesbian women who seem to like that 'look' that you describe.

Also many stereotypical 'butch' lesbians who have a distinct 'look' which seems to emulate masculinity. I have several 'butch' lesbian friends who have their hair cut in barbers and wear stereotypically male clothes. Not just jeans, T shirts etc but clothes from mens shops, wearing suits including waistcoats at formal functions for example.

They certainly are conforming to a 'look' but are not at all interested in the male gaze. And their 'look' is not a 'look' that is appreciated by men.

So clearly adopting a 'look' as a woman is not necessarily for the benefit of men. The background, culture, sexuality and 'look' of many societal groups plays a part.

There are far more heterosexual women NOT adopting the 'look' that you describe. As women in a westernised society we're all subject to societal and media influence.

Given that, your OP should perhaps say 'why aren't more women doing this?' as it's such a tiny number of women who are. The majority of women just aren't adopting this look.

So why is that? If we're all so very influenced by pornography and the sexualised 'look' involving cosmetic enhancements that appear to be appealing to a certain type of men; why aren't we seeing swathes of these women everywhere?

Because we're not. Most of the examples on this thread are indeed - porn stars or 'celebrities' whose career is based on their appearance rather than talent or skills.

I'm certainly not seeing women with the 'porn star' look in my every day life.
