“Transgender activists have contacted Mumsnet advertisers and said they will be organising a boycott of their products if they don’t remove their advertising from Mumsnet,” Roberts said.

“A significant minority of our users feel very strongly about women’s rights and very uneasy [about the proposals]. This is an issue that needs to be discussed and that’s why we’re prepared to take any potential advertising hit.”

What is FWR and why is it silenced? Is that the feminist topic? I don't understand what it means to 'silence' something

I'm very impressed with the way Mumsnet has handled this issue.

Bravo MNHQ and Justine Mumsnet Thanks

SamHeughansCephalicVeins · 15/04/2018 09:06

Thank you Justine & MNHQ Flowers

TheXXFactor · 15/04/2018 09:06

However I do not believe that transwomen are women. I believe they are different, not lesser This

Its all about shutting the bitches up Also this.

MCSpammer · 15/04/2018 09:06

What, all 6 of them will stop buying pampers? Fucking ridiculous.

Fucking outrageous to think that this is even acceptable in their eyes. Where would they be without free speech?

Well done I say Mumsnet HQ

ChattyLion · 15/04/2018 09:09

YABU OP and thank you Justine.

ChattyLion · 15/04/2018 09:10

Oh jeez... YA N BU, OP!

Window2My · 15/04/2018 09:10

And people rushing to start reading the Times as a news source on the strength of one article - not even an opinion piece - neutrally reporting a piece of news - really don't understand how journalism works.

I feel silenced in regards to the Gender ID debate and am pleased that the Sunday Times has decided to tackle this Gender ID 'Beast' as politicians and the BBC have already been pressured to go along with uncritical celebration and acceptance of tarns women. No need to patronise me. I have read all the biased BBC features on Trans and they are absolutely guilty of promoting trans ideology rather than providing balanced and impartial News. I am throughly fed up with BBC News because of this reason and their ever so simplistic and sensationalist news reports on pretty much any topic. It's a disgrace that they are paid through License fees.

Thanks again Sunday Times and Times Online.

extinctspecies · 15/04/2018 09:11

Spartacus I didn't know about the Times record on transgender reporting - I was basing my comment on some of the other posts I read on this thread which seemed to just be reacting to the Andrew Gilligan article in today's Sunday Times.

Jolly good for the Times, but I'll stick to the Guardian thanks.

I'm one of those feminists who'd rather avoid the Transgender threads on here. But completely support your rights to have the debate.

heateallthebuns · 15/04/2018 09:12

Thanks mumsnet!

extinctspecies · 15/04/2018 09:13

Windows & Spartacus i am happy to be corrected, I didn't know the Times had a longer-standing record on this issue.

Datun · 15/04/2018 09:14

Whatever you think the term significant minority applies to, I'm absolutely certain it doesn't apply to the number of people who advocate for free speech.

Whatever one thinks of the proposed law changes, or the rights of women, censorship using blackmailing tactics is going to be vehemently opposed by a significant, overwhelming majority.

And personally, that's all I ask.

‘Brands that are complicit in bullying women into silence will not get my custom’

^
This. Thank you, MNHQ, from my daughters and from me!

catgirl1976 · 15/04/2018 09:14

Incredibly proud of MN and Justine. Thank you for standing up for women.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 15/04/2018 09:15

Thank you, Justine, thank you Mumsnet, I'm another one extremely grateful for free speech and a place to debate this issue. Desperately needed.

Bi11yOneMate · 15/04/2018 09:16

Bravo!

CasperGutman · 15/04/2018 09:16

The idea of boycotting companies that pull out of advertising on MN is problematic from a purely practical point of view. They're hardly going to announce the reason, so how will you tell the difference between that and a company's campaign coming to an end, or them legitimately deciding to spend less on advertising or to target a different demographic on another site?

Prancingonthevalentine · 15/04/2018 09:17

Some good news, at last

Middleoftheroad · 15/04/2018 09:18

Thank you MN for not giving in to bully boy tactics.

mercurymaze · 15/04/2018 09:18

I am not the most articulate poster but Justine can add me to the minority.

QuietNinjaTardis · 15/04/2018 09:19

Thank you Mnhq for this. I don’t comment on the threads but I read and agree and am worried.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 15/04/2018 09:22

Very happy to boycott any company that supports censorship and to tell their CEO.

Needmoresleep · 15/04/2018 09:22

Well done. This is about so much more than the trans issue. No-platforming happens on a number of issues that really should be debated.

Thank you for our platform.

HouseMouse77 · 15/04/2018 09:23

Well done. It's a great first step but the feminism board needs to be unbidden. I hope Mumsnet takes an even stronger stand.

Women, as a group, are the most powerful consumer group. It's time we used it.

GreenEyedGoose · 15/04/2018 09:23

Also saying thank you to MNHQ Flowers

Notonyournellly · 15/04/2018 09:23

Another one from the significant minority here. Thanks for standing up for us. Star
