Please would you consider signing this petition to provide amnesty for the windrush children who either lived most of their whole lives here or in some cases were born here but the home office has lost their paper work. The home office is a shambles but being successful in creating their hostile environment.
These people have lived their whole lives here because we asked their parents to work here. They had commonwealth status and then the rules were changed .

Please sign. Lots of talking, not much happening.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/04/2018 20:38

There is a gathering at Parliament square next afternoon/evening during the debate to support the petition. www.standuptoracism.org.uk/support-windrush-generation-amnesty-debate/

I'm working unfortunately.

My grandma arrived to the UK with her sisters in 1953 from Jamaica. Because they were asked to. They came as nurses because we needed them.
It wasn't just a whim. The people who came, came because they were invited here. They needed bus drivers, train drivers, nurses etc. They paid taxes, they built communities and they made families.
This whole situation genuinely hurts my heart. My grandma would be turning in her grave at this.
Have shared far and wide.

Massive U-turn announced to address this atrocity. .

"The package of measures outlined in the House includes offering citizenship or settled status to all people from the Commonwealth who arrived between 1948 and 1988, with the £1,330 citizenship fee waived. Language tests and the need to pass an exam on life in Britain will also be waived for those choosing to take citizenship and anyone who has left the UK but has been prevented from coming back will be helped to do so without fees. The offer applies regardless of whether or not someone has paperwork showing their right to be in the country."

I'm breathing a sigh of relief but I will never ever forgive or forget this and the tories will never ever get my vote.

This is shameful and disgusting - and shamefully I found out about this from facebook

It’s just so ugly

What a way to treat people after years of citizenship

You couldn’t make it up really

And doesn’t bode well for BREXIT does it Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/04/2018 07:38

Until the changes are implemented I'll take them with a pinch of salt. It's not just the fact that this happened, but the attitude and culture that allowed this to happen.

Keep signing :)

Sp British citizens can apply to become British citizens? How nice.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/04/2018 08:17

Magnanimous of them isn't it Sashh. They are still missing the point.

Becles · 24/04/2018 11:07

Keep signing the petition - this isn't sorted yet.

NurseButtercup · 24/04/2018 12:03

My friend works in the home office and the following information has been issued by the windrush taskforce:

We know that some people who arrived in the UK before 1973 may have been unable to confirm their status in the UK. If you think you have been affected by this please get in touch with the Home Office who can help to confirm your status.

We have set up a dedicated unit at the Home Office to support you through the process of confirming
your status.

Rudd has resigned.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 29/04/2018 22:42

Quite right too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/04/2018 07:08

That doesn't fix things though. Rudd resigned because she misled the Select committee not because of policy.

NurseButtercup · 30/04/2018 07:22

Yeah I saw that Amber Rudd has resigned, I don't feel vindicated at all. I just drew the comparison between her lies and Jeremy Hunt's lies and yet he's still in post, he will never ever resign .

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 30/04/2018 10:19

I keep thinking of people who came over as babies, some of them have never been to the West Indies, and they're having to fight being deported. It's crazy.

Theworldisfullofgs · 30/04/2018 12:22

I'm doing some work on Boris Johnson at the moment and he says that people don't like political entities because they don't trust them and if they can't shame them...

How the home office makes a profit , actually a substantial profit from people's lives within a system so complex that you are destined to fail.

Theworldisfullofgs · 03/05/2018 08:46

Me again.
Govt has used whip and DUP votes to ensure Windrush information is not open to scrutiny.
