Windrush Petition

Theworldisfullofidiots · 13/04/2018 23:29

Please would you consider signing this petition to provide amnesty for the windrush children who either lived most of their whole lives here or in some cases were born here but the home office has lost their paper work. The home office is a shambles but being successful in creating their hostile environment.
These people have lived their whole lives here because we asked their parents to work here. They had commonwealth status and then the rules were changed .

peacheachpearplum I'm with you but we are in the minority. People need to take responsibility for themselves and their own situation. It is totally stupid not to regularise your immigration status if you are living in a country where you weren't born and every country in the world requires that you do. In the 70s and 80s it was common for kids from the Caribbean to come to the UK "on holiday" and be left with "aunties" who may or may not have been related to them in the UK. I guess some of them have been here illegally ever since despite the regular immigration amnesties in the 90s. So I don't have a lot of sympathy, they have had every chance to sort out the paperwork. But I'm sure this government will cave in as they always do if something is unpopular.

Amy sorry that's me being flippant. My dsis works with the home office. You're right. It's not the people who work there. It's the direction they are given and then usually blamed for.
When I said Home Office - I meant the govt direction of it.

They were invited here as British citizens. They never were immigrants. At least read up on the subject before spouting your nonsense.

Theworldisfullofgs · 16/04/2018 19:51

Nothing like an immigration topic to bring out the judgemental in people, says I judgementally...

TheElementsSong · 16/04/2018 21:03

YY this bears repeating. And repeating. And repeating.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 16/04/2018 21:41

Also worth remembering how they came to be living in a British 'colony' as British citizens originally. I think we still have some payback to go to their ancestors too.

Doobigetta · 16/04/2018 21:48

Signed, completely agree. I'm really not happy with the way we as a country bang on about how important the Caribbean countries are when it suits us, and then leave them high and dry when it doesn't- like this, and the utterly shameful way we let them down in the aftermath of the hurricane last year.

Vexatious · 16/04/2018 21:54

And the laughable way they say Brexit will strengthen ties with the Commonwealth. Um, yeah. sure thing.

Theworldisfullofgs · 16/04/2018 21:55

Over 150,000 signatures now.
I'm worried that if people stop signing it will fade from the limelight and for all the rhetoric of today, not much will be done.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/04/2018 21:57

we need to keep it going then. How many people visit mn each day? Let's see if we can collectively push this.

SianRunner · 16/04/2018 22:02

Lead story on BBC news at 10pm now.

David Lammy was awesome.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 16/04/2018 22:07

Signed. This whole business defies any kind of sense or humanity.

Theworldisfullofgs · 16/04/2018 22:08

David Lammy went to my children's school.Smile

Childrenofthesun · 16/04/2018 22:09

Call me a sceptic, but I'm fairly certain anyone that says this has in mind only the white commonwealth countries.

Helipad · 16/04/2018 22:14

Signed. This is national disgrace. As someone who's future may be in jeopardy due to Brexit, this sends shivers down my spine.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/04/2018 22:17

Well done everyone :)

DianaT1969 · 16/04/2018 22:28

Amber Rudd's letter to MPs

CrustyCob · 16/04/2018 22:44

Signed.

MaureenNervosa · 16/04/2018 22:55

I signed and shared. This is an utter disgrace. I hope people's anger will be reflected in the votes in the forthcoming local elections.

TinkyWinky40 · 16/04/2018 23:05

I am full of rage every time I read about this Angry
Having dealt with the Home Office for 10 years, I can honestly say there is a real issue with some caseworkers not understanding the policy and guidance because they are not Immigration specialists and the Immigration rules are constantly changing. This results in utter confusion and mistakes which were life-changing for some applicants.

The people from the Caribbean and other commonwealth countries (non-white) at the time were INVITED here by the British Government to settle here permanently to rebuild the country. They should have been given paperwork at the port of entry not asked for it some 50+ years later.

The mentality of this Government very much remains in that British Empire state of mind. Funny how the white British invaders didn’t regularise their Immigration status when invading these countries Hmm

Mumoftwinsandanother · 16/04/2018 23:17
