Loads of shops, bars and restaurants are now allowing dogs in them.
I'm very allergic and one of my dc is too.
It's so widespread now. Such little thought for those with allergies.

I like dogs but my DW if frightened of them after a bad experience as a child so I agree with you OP.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 10/04/2018 20:54

Where do you live? I've not seen it personally. Must be awful if you're allergic to them. Not sure what you can do but just have some antihistamines on you when you are out and about maybe?

PrettyLittIeThing · 10/04/2018 20:55

Also not seen this but I would hate it because I just hate dogs.

Aprilmightmemynewname · 10/04/2018 20:56

Sounds like my house tbh. 16 paws - every bloody - where - you try to walk.

CaptainBrickbeard · 10/04/2018 20:57

I have an allergic child and I’m nervous of dogs. I would hate to encounter them in shops or cafes so if that’s happening, YANBU!

blurryeyedbeast · 10/04/2018 20:57

Do you live in a rural area? I live in a village (but one surrounded by towns rather than rural) and only our local pubs allow dogs. Not many do in towns IME.

Merryoldgoat · 10/04/2018 20:59

I would hate this too but I’m frequently told I’m unreasonable about dogs so you can’t necessarily trust my opinion!

Wolfiefan · 10/04/2018 21:00

Our local cafe, pub, camping shop, pet shop and garden centres all allow dogs.
I'm very allergic to pollen and dust. Can't ban those! Just choose places dogs aren't allowed if it's that bad. Confused

Lockheart · 10/04/2018 21:01

YAB a bit U - all shops, bars and restaurants must allow all assistance dogs in. Assistance dogs are allowed everywhere, and a damn good thing too.

I appreciate it is difficult having severe allergies, but you could be sitting in the most dog-unfriendly cafe in the world and still find yourself sharing space with a guide dog.

FranticallyPeaceful · 10/04/2018 21:02

I try not to bring my dog into dog friendly places (apart from outdoor places, and pet shops) because even though he loves to be involved I think it’s unfortunate for people who have allergies. We have a Saint Bernard and he can be quite scary for people who are already scared of dogs due to his size.
That said my dad has recently lost his wife and his dog is his best friend, he’s very happy he can go to more places with his dog than years ago.

I think it’s nice that some places are allowing dogs (pubs etc) but I think dog-friendly zones would be better

Eifla · 10/04/2018 21:02

Yep, it’s great Grin

liz70 · 10/04/2018 21:03

We've just come back from staying the night at Middleham, which we visited to see the castle. All the inns accepted dogs both in the bar and sccommodation, which is just as well for us, as we have one. As blurry says, it's common for rural pubs to let them in.

FranticallyPeaceful · 10/04/2018 21:04

@Wolfiefan true. My son is allergic to dust and has a lung condition so people smoking outdoors can do him serious harm, so sometimes it’s really difficult to avoid. Hospitals for example, smoke free... people still smoke outside and you have to battle past it just to enter. So annoying

Wolfiefan · 10/04/2018 21:20

Yeuch to the smoking outside. I'm also allergic to something found in shampoos and shower gels and liquid detergent and washing up liquid.
It's fucking miserable being me at the moment.
Thank fuck I'm not allergic to my dog. Much. Blush

WiddlinDiddling · 10/04/2018 21:24

I feel for people with allergies, honestly... it must be so hard to avoid some of the environmental stuff...

But I don't think its fair to make YOUR problem EVERYONE ELSES problem either - if you are severely allergic to dogs then you are going to have an issue whether theres a dog of any kind or just someone whose recently fussed a dog and got hair on them.

If you are not actually THAT allergic then frankly you are really BU!

I find peoples perfumes and even washing powder can give me a blinding headache (not a mildly annoying one, a fall to teh ground throw up agonising job), my friend only has to touch something that someone who touched some peanuts has touched and shes off to hospital.

We deal with this shit, its our shit to deal with its NOT up to the rest of the world to curtail THEIR lives enormously, to accomodate OUR abormalities.

Wolfiefan · 10/04/2018 21:28

Yep it's shit. But my shit to deal with. Just wish I could find an antihistamine that would stop my face swelling and itching and stopping me sleeping. Sad

LakieLady · 10/04/2018 21:31

I'm allergic to tree pollen and fungal spores.

Can we cancel spring and autumn, please?

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 10/04/2018 21:34

Totally agree widdlin

Alienspaceship · 10/04/2018 21:36

Assistance dogs are fine. But I don’t like other dogs in shops and cafes - barking, crotch sniffing, dribbling. Yuck.

mimibunz · 10/04/2018 21:38

I love seeing dogs out and about with their humans.

Snappymcsnappy · 10/04/2018 21:43

While I sympathise and imagine it must be very difficult for you I think it's a great idea personally.

It is like this in France, Germany, Vienna, probably lots of other countries.

My DH was horrified when we were on holiday eating a romantic dinner in Vienna when two massive slobbery hounds came in on the table next to us.
I thought it was great!

Afternooncatnap · 10/04/2018 21:44

I'm allergic to flowers but I don't get annoyed when they have bunches in pubs, restaurants and shops. I just move away or take an antihistamine. I'm sure you can do the same with dogs.

monkeysox · 10/04/2018 21:44

Not just rural. Local retail park too.
If they go in clothes shops and brush past clothes that will affect some.
Assistance dogs are quite a rare sight here tbh.

SomeKnobend · 10/04/2018 21:45

Where? I want to move there.

RandomWordsStuckTogether · 10/04/2018 21:48

Everyone has a dog where we live. As a result the pavements are always littered with dog shit making the nursery runs an obstacle course of turds.

Needless to say I’m not a fan.
