Loads of shops, bars and restaurants are now allowing dogs in them.
I'm very allergic and one of my dc is too.
It's so widespread now. Such little thought for those with allergies.

Where? I want to move there. Grin

Ditto! This way to Paradise! Where is this tribe of mine located?

ColourfulOrangex · 10/04/2018 22:45

There was one on the bus today, they don't normally bother me on buses but this one was Labrador size and not on a lead, I was tense every time it came over near the buggy, thankfully the driver made the owner put its lead on

HaroldsSoCalledBluetits · 10/04/2018 22:48

See, that's the kind of idiocy I'm talking about. If you absolutely have to get on the bus with your dog (presumably so that it can get to Starbucks which we all know is a dog's natural habitat, as seen on every Attenborough programme), at least put it on a lead. The number 5 into town is not a grassy open meadow.

mydogisthebest · 10/04/2018 22:57

Well compared with a lot of Europe, I don't find the UK very dog friendly at all.

There are far far more pubs, cafes etc that don't allow dogs than ones that do. I don't know of any shops that allow them in. Also ask a hotel if you can take your dog and must of them say "no". In France they are amazed you would ask as of course they accept dogs.

^"Cannot see the point of them at all."

"What is the point of a dog being in a cafe? Or a bookshop, seriously?"

"Dogs quite literally disgust me. Even the word 'dog' sounds dirty and makes me feel a bit sick"

"Shops and cafes and pubs are for people, not dogs. Dogs belong in kennels"

"See, that's the kind of idiocy I'm talking about. If you absolutely have to get on the bus with your dog (presumably so that it can get to Starbucks which we all know is a dog's natural habitat)"^

Yeah, fucking blind people, wanting to use public transport and cafes and shops Hmm. They should all fuck off and take their dirty stinking drooling dogs with them.

(Sarcasm, in case it needed pointing out)

Rednailsandnaeknickers · 10/04/2018 23:10

Sorry OP but dogs are big business. I read somewhere recently that over a third of households in the U.K. now have a dog so if cafes/pubs etc particularly in popular walking or holiday spots don't want to miss out on the poochie pound, they will open their doors to doggies and their humans.

To the person who said even the word "dog" is blah blah goady fuckery, you really need therapy. Or find a new hobby for your hairy hands.

TattyTShirt · 10/04/2018 23:10

There are a lot more pubs and cafes that do not allow dogs. I have never seen a shop where dogs are allowed - except charity shops like PDSA.

I'm sure you won't have problems finding a place to eat that don't allow dogs...

Ummmmgogo · 10/04/2018 23:10

you've missed the point entirely lockheart read the thread.

SemperIdem · 10/04/2018 23:12

Most countries across Europe are far more dog friendly than the UK. Dutch friends laughed at me when I explained we couldn’t take my dog inside a pub local to me. I presume those countries also have people with dog allergies amongst the population and they manage fine.

Lockheart · 10/04/2018 23:15

I have read the thread @Ummmmgogo.

Assistance dogs are still dogs, and are therefore presumably just as odious to those of a sensitive disposition as regular dogs.

I have a very dear friend who is almost completely blind and relies on her (wonderful and astounding) guide dog heavily. Her life is difficult enough without members of the public going "ewww, DOG" every time she wants to go to a fucking cafe (sometimes she gets the bus if there's no-one to give her a lift - the outrage!).

She can hear the tuts and the sighs and the mutterings well enough. "Shouldn't be allowed.... unhygienic... inconsiderate... keep it away...".

She can't see the eyerolls and the filthy looks, which is probably just as well.

GertieMotherwell · 10/04/2018 23:15

YABU
Lots of people have allergies

angryburd · 10/04/2018 23:16

Nothing makes the good people of MN foam at the mouth quite like the subject of dogs. With the exception of fat people.

Waspsarewankers · 10/04/2018 23:17

Infant to know where this is. It's not something I have noticed.
My last dog died in 1998. I've not been a position to have one until now. We have been discussing it and came to the conclusion that the world seems more anti-dog these days. Sadly not helped by irresponsible owners.

HaroldsSoCalledBluetits · 10/04/2018 23:18

Are assistance dogs trained in the art of running around on buses?

Anyway, assistance dogs, sniffer dogs that find huge hauls of cocaine, police dogs that rescue kidnapped kiddies, all = good. Working dogs. They have a purpose and are trained. All other dogs = pointless and shit. I live in a city. Dogs here detract from the environment, whether built and urban or the precious green spaces ruined by them crapping everywhere or running around out of control so that actual humans' enjoyment and utilisation of the space is curtailed.

MonkeyPoke · 10/04/2018 23:20

Mine is no less disgusting or disruptive than my child in a cafe.

Which to be fair is setting the bar quite low.

HaroldsSoCalledBluetits · 10/04/2018 23:21

Cafes are for people. A child is a person. A dog is not.

Ummmmgogo · 10/04/2018 23:21

I understand your point now but more dog friendly places will not help your friend as it means she is more likely to step in dog poo and it's more likely her/her guide dog will get bitten.

honeyroar · 10/04/2018 23:21

You're telling Lockheart to read the thread - she's quoted several posts from throughout the thread, so it seems quite likely she read it!

I like that there are a few dog friendly places around. It's nice to be able to call for a latte at the end of a dog walk. I'd say around us about 15% of cafes are dog friendly, 50% of pubs. Most places aren't, so there are plenty of places for non dog lovers.

We're taking our dogs with us on a mini break with our dogs this week, I've found a load of lovely dog friendly places, can't wait.

Ladydepp · 10/04/2018 23:22

I love dogs and would have them everywhere if I could. Sorry you’re allergic but YADBU. I’m allergic to tree pollen but I still love trees...

there are a few very odd ones on this thread today Hmm

GertieMotherwell · 10/04/2018 23:23

When I visit the pub I would far rather see dogs in there than children

HaroldsSoCalledBluetits · 10/04/2018 23:24

Anyway, your dog is way more disgusting than any child. Trust me on this.

Ladydepp · 10/04/2018 23:26

No more beautiful sight than a fat lab snoozing in a pub...

HaroldsSoCalledBluetits · 10/04/2018 23:28

Do you live in Slough or something?
