Loads of shops, bars and restaurants are now allowing dogs in them.
I'm very allergic and one of my dc is too.
It's so widespread now. Such little thought for those with allergies.

YANBU, OP. Dog owners want the world to be catered to their choice of owning a pet, and it shouldn’t be. If you have, for example, thirty establishments in a small town, a max of three should allow dogs (and I think that’s generous).

I won’t give any pub/restaurant/cafe my business if they allow dogs as it tells me everything I need to know about their lax hygiene practices.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/04/2018 06:39

My local cafe lets dogs in but i wouldn’t take my dogs there, not comfortable with that.

The pubs, however they love going to, they get attention and biscuits. All local pubs are dog friendly.

A restaurant I wouldn’t even consider taking them to.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/04/2018 06:49

People germs bring preferable to dog germs

Genuinely made me laugh. Woke up the dogs, who are snoring by the bed.

Some of you are kind of missing the point.
Being allergic to something is not something you choose. Antihistamines won't cut it. Wheezing for days after being exposed to a dog isn't nice.
Going to the beach. Fine. Not enclosed.
Shops pubs bars hotels not fine, enclosed and like a pp I can be ill even if a dog has been somewhere days earlier.
Also you can't compare kids to dogs as I'm not allergic to them. ;-)

I'm not a fan of this at all, but that's because i have OCD about germs. Dogs walk on the bare floor, plenty (particularly females) stand in their own pee, possibly even their own shit, they lick their own arse holes, they stick their nose in other dogs arses, and plenty like to jump/roll in questionable things, and their bumholes are exposed to be able to touch things, some even eat their own/other dogs shit!
I don't want to potentially sit down, on a seat that's had a dogs paws/bare anus/genitals on it, or if they've jumped up at the table and put their paws on it, licked it, rubbed their arse against the table leg etc. You're also always going to be at risk of a dog brushing against you, smacking you with its shit wafter, or literally sticking its snout in your hand/crotch etc. They smell, particularly when wet, they don't have nice breath, and what if they decide they need to go to the bathroom, it can't be unheard of that the dog pisses/shits in the room. My local petstore chain lets you take dogs in, particularly as theres a vets and groomers in there, and there is ALWAYS at least one aisle where theres a puddle of piss dripping down actual items for sale on display. The owner hasn't paid attention to the fact their dog needs the toilet, and has walked off and left the mess, not cleaning it or paying for the stock they've ruined! You have to look at the floor constantly, one had even taken a massive shit right near the small animal cages surrounded by kids, and it had been stood in multiple times and smeared absolutely everywhere! I couldn't be certain i'd dodged it all despite meticulously checking my shoes before getting in the car, and had to throw out the jeans i was wearing as the hems brush the floor. If it weren't for the fact i have pet snakes and it's the only place i can get their food i wouldn't go there.

Assistance dogs have had specialist training and are much better behaved/controlled, but everyday regular pooches, no, i dont agree with it at all.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/04/2018 07:06

I’m alergic to some perfumes but I don’t go round demanding John Lewis stop selling them near the escalators so I won’t be bothered on my way to the cushions on three.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/04/2018 07:09

Sandwich your shoes have been everywhere a dog’s paws have been.

The dogs don’t sit with their feet on the seats in the pubs or the Tube, unlike most children and some adults I’ve seen.

monkeysox · 11/04/2018 07:11

Chardonnay it might be a problem if shops cafes and pubs began intermittently spraying perfume every few seconds though wouldn't it.

Welshlovebicuit · 11/04/2018 07:14

I hate children but they're every bloody where. I just don't go in the places where they are.

NotACleverName · 11/04/2018 07:14

Ah yes. Dog threads on MN are like the first cuckoos of spring.

Where is this heavenly place, OP? I want to move there. I lost my good old boy recently and I miss him.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/04/2018 07:15

Shops do spray perfumes for customers to sample.

Pubs don’t, so I much prefer those. Grin

Personwithhorse · 11/04/2018 07:18

Love seeing dogs out and about, better behaved than many children!

AlmostAJillSandwich · 11/04/2018 07:19

I am aware, which is why im almost completely housebound and no shoes are allowed to be worn anywhere but my wood floored hallways which is regularly disinfected. Its an awful illness to live with, just trying to give an example how this could be catastrophic for some people , which most wouldn't even register.

Also, to explain to a previous poster questioning another poster about why dog germs are "worse" than people germs, this is something i've been having intensive therapy about. Basically (for me at least, maybe not the poster you were asking), germs produced by people, from their shit etc, is something we have some natural immunity/protection for. We all have a similar natural gut flora, and the produced germs/pathogens etc, have been created by/ already passed through a persons system and aren't therefore going to be something a person can't deal with should we be "contaminated" by them. They are a naturally occurring thing within our own species' bodies than any averagely healthy person, even if they became ill from it, could reliably fight off. It might be much less likely to get sick from something a dog/animal has, but it's also more alien to our immune system and could therefore be a lot more dangerous/serious IF we did get ill.

battenbergbutterfly · 11/04/2018 07:20

If dogs are allowed in a cafe you want to go in just don't go. Go somewhere else. There are plenty of places that don't allow dogs to choose from too.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/04/2018 07:22

I’m convinced, Sandwich.

I spend lots of time around digs and have never had s dog germ problem.
Definitely hot the same as the flu and cold ridden tube or plane trip in close proximity to people germs.

Businesses need to make money, and it is increasingly difficult to do so, so they are having to make changes to their operating model. Dog owners must bring in more revenue than the revenue they lose from allergy sufferers/people who dislike dogs. That is the only rationale behind it.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/04/2018 07:24

Sorry, not convinced. Not at all.

Do you have evidence for your claims?

GoingFullNorman · 11/04/2018 07:25

There are definitely more dogs around, and more dogs in places they wouldn’t have been found in 10/15/20 years ago.

It makes life incredibly difficult for us as a family, because my eldest child has a dog phobia. She has severe ASD, and cannot stay calm, ignore it, just get on with her life, etc.

We used to be able to go out and about family easily, but even walking down the high street of our very small town is now a no-no due to the amount of dogs everywhere.

Peanutbuttercups21 · 11/04/2018 07:27

I don't see the need for dogs everywhere, not fair on people with allergies and just not necessary.

I walk my dog, interact with her at home, but when I want to go shopping or to a cafe, I leave my dog at home where she'll happily snooze in her basket.

joystir59 · 11/04/2018 07:27

Dogggsssss!!!!! We take our little one into pubs and restaurants sometimes and it's common here (seaside) where everyone, almost, has a dog

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/04/2018 07:27

There is more of everything around, that’s true.

There are more people around and general overcrowding. More dogs is just part of it.

I'd suggest, don't go anywhere near a park. Cafés and pubs nearby always allow dogs.
