To ask if you've heard of a potato scallop

When I was a teenager I'd quite often buy a potato scallop for 20p from the chippy on the walk home from swimming. It was a slice of battered potato and was delicious. Where I live now no one has heard of them. Have you and if yes where do you live? :)

It's a fritter here

BubblesThaDragoon · 10/04/2018 13:15

YES!! It’s deep fried potato slice in batter, I used to get them from the chippy on the way home too! Mmmmn

DorothyBastard · 10/04/2018 13:15

I had a scallop with my chippie tea just last night. Delicious. One thing I can’t seem to get found here is a pea fritter

BarbarianMum · 10/04/2018 13:15

Yes but only because they're in an Austrailian cookbook of mine. Never seen one in real life.

MrsTylerJoseph · 10/04/2018 13:15

Yes, delicious. Always call just 'scallops' when I was growing up. I was well into adulthood before I discovered that there was any other sort of scallop.

Dontbuymesocks · 10/04/2018 13:17

Sorry, I’m in Yorkshire too.

Youradviceneeded · 10/04/2018 13:18

I was an adult before I realised that there was any other type of scallop too. I am from South Wales.

Flockoftreegulls · 10/04/2018 13:18

My Salfordian granny used to make them, yummy!

SquirrelWatcher · 10/04/2018 13:18

They sell them in our chippy in Birmingham, I think they're 70p. Are they nice? I didnt think they sounded great so haven't tried one yet!

rubybleu · 10/04/2018 13:19

Yes but I’m from Queensland. The food of the Gods. Other parts of Australia call them potato cakes and potato fritters.

Scoleah · 10/04/2018 13:20

Yep same here, South Wales. Didn't realise a Scallop was a Fish until I watched Come fine with me about 3 years ago Grin

Mywifenow · 10/04/2018 13:20

50p round here

chocoshopoholic · 10/04/2018 13:22

My gran used to do potato and corned beef slices (stacked like a sandwich), battered and deep fried and called them scallops.
