I have the most stupid DH on MN

DH cooked dinner tonight and had some sausages on his plate along with dinner. I commented on how strong they smelled and asked where he got them. He laughed and said “from the bin”.
Last night I was checking the fridge and at the back found a pack of leek sausages dated April 1st...the pack had swelled right up and bubbles were oozing out the side, so I threw them out. These are what he’s just eaten!
Now he burping away and I can’t believe he’s that thick!
AIBU to make him sleep with a bucket tonight Angry

I think its going to be the brown rain for the next few days....

crazycatgal · 06/04/2018 23:27

What an absolute minger. Why would anyone do this unless they were starving and couldn't afford food.

Weedsnseeds1 · 06/04/2018 23:27

Spoilage bacteria smell ( but aren't toxic), pathogens don't smell but can make you very I'll. I'm always bemused by the " give it a sniff" advice on here.
Yes, you can get revulsion sickness from taking a mouthful of something absolutely humming, but that's not food poisoning.
You can't smell verocytoxin producing E. Coli or Clostridium Botulinum for example.

typcast · 06/04/2018 23:29

Oh. My. gawd. Looking forward to the update!

GunslingerPie · 06/04/2018 23:29

Placemarking for the shitstorm

Foxysoxy10 · 06/04/2018 23:32

I was laughing along to this thread and thinking what a tit your DH is whilst questioning his sanity until someone mentioned you could actually die from eating off pork!

I mean I get off pork (or any food) could make you really, really sick but if you were otherwise healthy would it really be enough to kill you?

Ractify · 06/04/2018 23:33

I'd be asking a few questions - has he retrieved thrown out food from the bin before? Has he served it to you? To anyone else? Why did he think it was ok to remove food from the rubbish?

I'd also be obtaining a firm commitment that food will never be removed from the bin and served ever again. I'm feeling so ill reading this thread.....

Eveforever · 06/04/2018 23:34

He should be okay OP. You know, for at least 20 more hours.

I agree that food waste is bad, but I wouldn't risk food poisoning to prove my point. I also agree that fishing, out of date food that's been out of the fridge for hours, from the bin is not so attractive.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 06/04/2018 23:35

That is just grim. However after reading what some of your OH do, I realise mine isn't as daft as I thought. @VanillaSugar how did he accidentally superglue his teeth?

moaningminnie123 · 06/04/2018 23:37

Hahahaha and I thought my DH was an idiot!

Toadinthehole · 06/04/2018 23:37

I reckon he's got away with it.

He's going to be just fine and all this speculation is worthless. And he's got a meal of sausages.

Btw, I'll admit to cooking meat that has started to smell a bit funny on the outside. I don't care because I'm generally batch cooking in a casserole, so any nasties get destroyed. My family have never noticed. Sometimes I run it under the tap though.

Best-before dates are only for the benefit of food manufacturers, not consumers, and so I ignore them

steppemum · 06/04/2018 23:40

Can I just point out to those who are saying that it is more of a problem as it is meat, and veg isn't so dodgy, botulism can be found in badly canned/tinned veg. It can be very nasty.

Weedsnseeds1 · 06/04/2018 23:41

foxy pork isn't any more dangerous than any other high protein food.
It has a bad reputation as tapeworm used to be common, but modern pork in the EU doesn't really have that issue any more ( bit be wary of undercooked pork, or any other meat if off the beaten track).
But yes, E. Coli ( verocytoxin producing strains), salmonella, Clostridium Botulinum, Hepatitis A, Shigella and other pathogens / parasites can be lethal, particularly in elderly / immune suppressed people.
Salmonella can also cause meningitis or long term effects such as arthritis.
Typhoid and Paratyphoid are forms of salmonella.

Andthatsthat · 06/04/2018 23:41

My guess is that his ring will be stinging by morning.....🤮🤮🤮🤮

RockafellerSkank · 06/04/2018 23:41

A Pig's revenge!

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 06/04/2018 23:44

What an idiot.

Although I’d not only eat the bolognese left out overnight I regularly do that Wink

wombatron · 06/04/2018 23:45

Also place marking. I have literally got nothing to say other than "fingers crossed". But even then I don't know what side of this I'm crossing them for!

Foxysoxy10 · 06/04/2018 23:48

Thank you Weedsnseeds1,

That’s very interesting in a sort of horrifying way!

twinnymommy · 06/04/2018 23:50

So they were in the bin from last night and he sat down and eat them 🤮

snewsname · 06/04/2018 23:53

Awaiting kick off time and then further updates.

soupforbrains · 06/04/2018 23:54

I suspect he will escape vomiting or any really serious effects but will have some VILE gas in the morning and probably the shits...

MyOtherProfile · 06/04/2018 23:58

Oh boy. Just marking my place in the great sausage watch.

TheDishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 07/04/2018 00:01

This might be the most horrific thing ive ever read, i feel sick just thinking about it, fat balls i can cope wirh but out of date sausages from the bin with extra added lunchbox fester? Even if he doesnt get food poisoning I would expect some kind of psychological vommiting.

I wish him luck, I suspect he will be fine because it's always the way wig idiots but I genuinly think if I were him if be in the toilet trying to get it back up. He's probably got a good 72hrs before he's out of the woods, most food poisoning takes 24-48hrs to develop.

My housemate once ate chicken that was a week out of date, it smelt awful, like death x1000, cooked gone off chicken smells so much worse than raw gone off chicken. She was fine. She also made Bolognese with of out of date mince, left it in her cupboard for 4 days and ate it, she was still fine. Each time I'm sitting in my room with the bleach at the ready, spraying all the door handles etc. and she's always fine, I'm the one who suffers with worry.

Graphista · 07/04/2018 00:03

Oh wow!

Ok Annie's advice in her long post is actually not a bad idea. You may want to consider popping to supermarket for incontinence pants too.

3 potential illness triggers that I can think of - bacteria (not just salmonella), toxins (it's not just the pork what else was in them?), and... Tapeworm which can cause very serious issues (it's rare in the uk I know before people jump on me - but it's rare BECAUSE we don't generally do stupid shit like this with food!) - so he is indeed one of the most stupid people I'VE heard of in a long time.

Also did he handle your food while handling these sausages? If so you may be in for a fun time using the second loo! What would be REALLY unfair is if op gets sick due to his actions and he doesn't.

Stupid stupid selfish man!

In addition to the absolute bollocking you've no doubt given him for being so stupid impress upon him he will HAVE to for the next I'd say 1-2 weeks at least be ABSOLUTELY on top of his personal hygiene especially handwashing and especially in relation to food handling.

Are there DC in the household?

And yes food poisoning can kill.

KriticalSoul · 07/04/2018 00:10

my exh used to do shit like this, I went ballistic at him, but the thing is, that man had the constitution of an ox and was NEVER sick, ever.

Having been on the receiving end of food poisoning that ended me in hospital being given meds for severe stomach cramps, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Your DH however?
