Surprisingly good cheap products.

Posting for traffic.

I've recently got a few bits online that people have recommended for being cheap but really good for what they are. Latest purchases are a really good liquid eyeliner from Amazon for £0.64 and a baby bath seat that should be £20 but was £9.99 inc delivery!

So out of curiosity and wanting to get some stuff has anyone got any recommendations of surprisingly good products they've bought really cheaply?

Not asking for anything particular just anything that comes to mind.

Perfume parlour dupes.

White vinegar spray from Home Bargains. Costs about 90p and is better than anything else for cleaning mirrors, windows etc.

Tesco value cream cleaner.
Shite as an actual cream cleaner but works a treat on ceramic hobs..

Soapnuts. I do about 15 loads a week. A kilo bag is around a tenner and lasts around 8 months.

Lidl fake viakal limescale remover. Stinks but does the job.

Tesco own brand hair serum, in a red bottle £1 Just as good as the expensive branded ones, if not better

I've ditched silicones now, but before I did, this stuff was AMAZING. Totally agree it's miles better than Frizz-Ease etc.

And one single pound! Grin

For any fans of L'Oréal Magic retouch - the coloured touch up spray for hair roots - get yourself to either Home Bargains or B&M who stock a virtually identical product for only £1.99 and its brilliant!

Another vote for the Waitrose Pure Skincare range. Only one not to make me break out, and often on 3 for 2.

Any own brand tampons - I'll never buy lil-lets again...

St Moriz tan. £2.99 In Savers (few quid more in Superdrug or Primark and Wilko) and it’s better than my £20 ones. Lidl and Aldi nappies and wipes, baby snacks, food and fruit pouches. Organic and without the Ella’s price tag. Morrisons nappies. Wilko face wipes are 50p and remove better than the £2-5 alternatives. Miss Sporty Kohl eyeliner for £2 bought in an emergency(!) is better than my Chanel and now my holy grail. Primark Strobe Highlighting cream is fab too. And their black opaque 150 denier tights for £2!

Good idea for a thread..

Lidl washing powder (Which? magazine tested it and it was as good as the leading brands like Persil, Ariel etc (it probably is Persil in a Lidl box?)

Lots of stuff from Lidl really, the hazelnut milk chocolate is pretty good

  • not earth shattering good, but tasty enough and it's 49p for a big bar!

The Lidl Fairtrade milk chocolate bar I got in Lidl Spain is really good, but cannot find it in Lidl UK :(
Lidl Cremant - almost as good as a decent champagne and about £8 a bottle - bargain.

The Waitrose 'Rich and Intense', Italian, Red Wine - £4.99 a bottle but as good as or better than many £8+ bottles of wine I have had.

www.superdrug.com/Nivea/Nivea-Daily-Essentials-Eye-Make-up-Remover-125ml/p/477150

Nivea Eye Make Up Remover, does the job on the tough ones like Benefit Mascara and Eyeliner (that Benefit sell and ridiculously expensive remover to get off!) The similar Garnier one is good too.

The poster looking for cheap face oil. Try Almond Oil. Can buy from lots of places and it’s very cheap. Can add perfume oil if you want. I don’t!

Aldi prosecco. The one with the silver label though, not the one with the yellow label which is just sugar water.

Aldi's fillet steak is amazing. When in offer it's around £3?

Boots cucumber cleanser, £1.50.

I've tried loads including L'oreal fancy oils, and its my favourite.

So gentle and effective, and leaves my oily skin looking brighter than any other cleanser.

3 for £3 - their toner and clay mask are fantastic too. Do just what they say on the tin.

Sainsbury's bath creme/shower cream - both on offer at 80p at the moment. I actually prefer it to any others.

YY to the Waitrose Pure skincare range and their own brand bath/shower stuff - £1.25 for 4 bars of soap is a bargain; both the pink grapefruit and seamoss ones are lush. The sea salt and kelp is also a gorgeous scent but they don't do it as a bar soap.

I got a tub of Lacura glycolic pads in Aldi the other day for £2.49. Also got a £3.99 Lacura 'Miracle Cream' which is a fab dupe for Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream. Great on dry skin and chapped lips and you only need the tiniest amount.

Jenny Glow wood sage and sea salt perfume is an excellent dupe of the Jo Malone one and at £6.99 vs. £40-odd (for a bigger bottle too) it's a no brainer.

St Moritz £3.99 fake tan foam is the only one I've tried that never streaks or goes patchy and gives my 'Irish white' legs a non-orangey, natural looking light tan. It's so easy to use too, dries in minutes. I wouldn't be without it.

I always buy fabric detergent from Aldi now, as it's a great price & washes really well. I have 3 DS, one of which is severely disabled and creates mountains of washing on a daily basis. Their dishwasher tabs are great too.

A pp mentioned buying "Lego" from AliExpress. We have bought some big sets in the past and I can happily say that the quality is pretty good. They say that the blocks are compatible with Lego but I'm a bit obsessive with that, so I will never allow the sets to mix. They often go by the brand name of Lepin.

Great thread! Thanks for starting! Trying to think of my own to add. Not sure if the still stock them, but Ocado used to have Carrefour pullups which worked out as cheaper per pair than others they stocked and they worked well overnight.

Astral cream, about £3.00 for a giant tub. Wonderful stuff, and apparently Joanna Lumley swears by it.

Ooh where to start with this! All Aldi shampoos and conditioners, laundry liquids, conditioners, cleaning products. Mamia wipes, nappies (although I no longer need these for my DS), Lacura body lotion and facial wipes. Also panty liners.

I used to work in the beauty industry. That was an eye opener. I can assure that Bourjois products, for just one example, are no different to a hugely expensive designer brand. My favourite mascara is a Collection one at 4.99, Lash Surge, which beats hands down the equivalent Lancome product I used to buy before my circumstances changed. My favourite and most effective fake tan is "Fake Me". I picked this up on a whim in Home Bargains one day (£1.99). It is without doubt the most natural and long lasting tan I've ever had and I have tried ALL of them. My face cream of choice is blue pot Nivea. Superdrug do a little pot of Vitamin E balm that I use on lips, under eyes, cuticles. Amazing product. For foundation I use Healthy Mix by Bourjois which is not "cheap" but under a tenner and amazing quality, similar if not the same as Clinique. Oh I could go on and on....I think it's easy to stick with what you know, but I have found that my circumstance, being less of a picky bugger with things has opened my eyes and saved me a fortune!

Lidl shower gels 300ml for 33p. The orange and lime fragrances are particularly good.
