78 pensioner arrested for fatally stabbing burglar in his own home

SShaming · 04/04/2018 12:20

2 burglars break into a 78 year old man’s home armed with screwdriver.

Forces owner into the kitchen whilst one of them goes upstairs.

A fight ensues, leaving pensioner with injuries to his arm and burglary is fatally stabbed. Perhaps with his own screwdriver although this is TBC.

Police arrest pensioner.

On what planet is this right?

We did have an intruder in the middle of the night my mum woke up to find a man standing at the end of her bed

Yes it was very frightening more concerning was that we thought he hadn’t taken anything until a few weeks later realised he had taken a pair of ladies leather riding boots

I didn’t for one minute think he deserved to die it never crossed my mind but I do understand that people defend themselves/family or may attack when they feel they are in danger

It was investigated nothing came of it

FairfaxAikman · 05/04/2018 12:15

Idrink in the case of Jean Charles de Menezes it was widely reported that he'd run off and jumped a ticket barrier - later investigations proved that to be false.

WhalesOfYore · 05/04/2018 12:16

Stop making shit up

Want some proof? Here's a charming post attacking the elderly victim:

Yesterday 23:02 Bluelady

The lynch mob doesn't care about anything except wailing about the poor frail pensioner.

Who looks like a real bruiser with his two pints of Guinness.

So kindly stop talking pure bull yourself Smile

Dulra · 05/04/2018 12:19

I really don't see any other option but arrest the man. Someone is dead and it needs to be investigated. The DPP will decide if there are grounds for charging him. If there is his defence attorneys will work on his defence for his trial. I would imagine self defence will be their main defence and a jury will decide on guilty or not guilty on whatever the charge is they bring.

For those that do not think the above is the right route to follow what is? What do you think should happen in this situation? because I am failing to see an alternative to what is happening.

It is an horrendous situation for the elderly man to be in but likewise none of us can take a life of another no matter what the circumstances without it being investigated

stitchglitched · 05/04/2018 12:19

And another poster said he murdered someone! and that they expect him to be charged despite no evidence to support murder over self defence.

PaintedHorizons · 05/04/2018 12:19

Burglary is not fully appreciated as a crime. The impact is huge. It leaves people traumatised for years. The losses are enormous sometimes.

My grandmother was burgled, pushed outside and locked in her garden at 3am. She almost died. She lost cash, jewellery, precious things that she'd treasured since childhood. She never recovered, never lived alone again and died not long afterwards. But is was "only" burlgary.

All my precious things including every photo I have ever had of my own and my children's lives were stolen by a couple of fucking burglars. They just stole packed boxes from the garage - they'd have thrown most of it away once they opened it. I cannot get over it.

I surprised a burglar one night in the room where my newborn baby was sleeping, with a knife. I was so shocked. I froze - he ran. I would have stabbed him if I'd got the chance.

It is a horrible, horrible crime and much underestimated.

snewsname · 05/04/2018 12:22

More of these incidents would work act as a deterrent to other arseholes who don't give a damn how their victims feel. Good on the pensioner, I say. I hope they go easy on him.

ButchyRestingFace · 05/04/2018 12:22

You’re going to have to do a bit better than one post talking about the pensioner looking like a “bruiser” when you have said the thread is “ full of bullshit justifying...”.

Hmm
Gromance02 · 05/04/2018 12:23

paintedhorizons I totally agree. The after effects of burglary are massively underestimated. Which is why I couldn't give a shiny shit about whether people that commit these crimes live or die. They are worthless 'people'.

PaintedHorizons · 05/04/2018 12:23

He had the knife - not me. It was 2am and I was a breastfeeding new mother who'd left my baby to make some tea and fallen asleep on the sofa. I went upstairs when I heard the baby whimpering

Do I look like your personal research assistant? Read the thread, put down the massive pro-burglar tinted spectacles, and you'll find plenty!

whales That’s because you can’t find any comments defending the housebreakers, it that’s what turned out to have happened.

Do you honestly think the police should turn up, do NO investigation and just remove the body? Can’t you see that being fraught with danger?

BertrandRussell · 05/04/2018 12:31

Can you not see a distinction between “pro burglar” and “anti murderer”?

Trumpdump · 05/04/2018 12:35

I just read that his wife has dementia Sad

Is he still in jail? Who is watching her?

Nicknacky · 05/04/2018 12:35

He was released on bail earlier today.

CertainlyChoco · 05/04/2018 12:35

I am with you Whales.

Like someone said, how do you know a stranger just wants to take things? Not rape or murder?

I'll happily stab any uninvited scumbag who comes close to my family in my home. Everytime. I won't even feel guilty about it. I think the world is a better place today wor one scumbag dead.

WhalesOfYore · 05/04/2018 12:36

Sod it, you want more proof? Here are more posts attacking the elderly victim:

BertrandRussell Wed 04-Apr-18 22:21:15
Oh of course you can't just kill other people with no consequences. Of course he has to be arrested and charged- he murdered someone!

BertrandRussell Wed 04-Apr-18 23:45:29
I wish people would stop calling him a "pensioner" as if that's the most important thing about him.

Bluelady Wed 04-Apr-18 23:48:02
Me too. I can only think it makes him sound more vulnerable and worthy of sympathy.

BertrandRussell's completely unsupported assertion that the victim committed a murder is particularly batshit!

ButchyRestingFace · 05/04/2018 12:36

I have read the thread, you frothing twit. What you claim is being said simply isn’t there.

Nicknacky · 05/04/2018 12:36

certainly would you expect therento be an investigation if you killed someone?

Bluelady · 05/04/2018 12:37

My ill advised post was to highlight that the householder, despite being 78, isn't a "frail, vulnerable pensioner" as all and sundry are insisting on painting him. It was in no way showing any sympathy for the intruders and it requires a hell of a stretch to think it was.

Nicknacky · 05/04/2018 12:37

whales Oh yes you are proved it, this 21 page thread is full of pro-burglars.

Aeroflotgirl · 05/04/2018 12:37

I am glad he has been released on bail. Shame on you, criticising the look of the victim, it does not matter how he looked like, he was a victim of crime. It sounds as though from news reports, he used the burglars weapon to defend himself.

ButchyRestingFace · 05/04/2018 12:38

Sod it, you want more proof? Here are more posts attacking the elderly victim

Neither of the last two posts you quote are remotely attacking.

WhalesOfYore · 05/04/2018 12:39

BertrandRussell

I'll quote your post again. You claimed, with no justification whatsoever, that the elderly pensioner is a murderer :

BertrandRussell Wed 04-Apr-18 22:21:15
Oh of course you can't just kill other people with no consequences. Of course he has to be arrested and charged- he murdered someone!

Your position is intellectually and morally bankrupt - as pro-burglar and anti-victim as it is possible to be!
