To ask how much you are paying for your Summer holiday?

How much do you/are you paying for your Summer holiday? What will you be doing? Abroad, UK, camping or hotel or cottage etc. How long for?

I just want to know if my holidays are very expensive.

The last few years we've been going to the same place and renting fab little cottages, the location is ideal for us and the places we've rented have been lovely, home from home.

A few people have been shocked at how much we've paid but I think they are kidding themselves to think you'd get equivalent in the school holidays for any less.

@Highhorse1981 Here.

The décor's a bit dated, but it's nice enough, and clean. There's a terrace to sit out on and it also comes with use of a beach hut!

Swanage is a lovely little seaside town, good for families or couples, and there are plenty of places to visit nearby, and a heritage railway.
And the sea is so blue!

LakieLady I'm jealous, I'd LOVE a motorhome (or a caravan)! Can't afford one, so I live vicariously through other people who post on YouTube, and watch the Practical Motorhome reviews on there too.

PoppyAndI · 04/04/2018 14:43

1 week in Menorca with family, villa was £1000 divided by 4 adults and flying from our local airport for £350. Super cheap!! Holiday in September costing around £1200 bed and breakfast in Cyprus. £1000 for spending money.

LakieLady · 04/04/2018 15:26

*Just you and partner?

£300 spending money for two people over 10 days in the UK mainly on dating out and drinks.

That’s £30 a day.

Wow!*

Yep, HighHorse, just 2 of us. There was one day when we didn't have any dinner because we'd had a pasty each in Helston at lunchtime. They were allegedly "medium" but were enormous, and we were still too full to eat in the evening. Only £3.05 each, too - bargain!

I'd also taken some chili from the freezer which we had one night, but it still seems ludicrously cheap for 8 meals out. It may be that one hasn't appeared on the bank statement yet, but that's all that was on there when I checked online this morning. Most of our pub meals were in the low £30s. One was a fantastic bargain, it happened to be steak night and we got 2 fantastic steaks and a bottle of wine for £30.

Pubs in the west country seem to be much better value than in the south east. A mediocre lunch and 2 pints at a pub near home came to £38 on Monday.

1300 all inc package to Spain in June (whit half term) for a family of four.

Choccywoccyhooha · 04/04/2018 15:29

£1400 for five nights in Paris with flights and accommodation, 2adults and 3 primary aged children.

Choccywoccyhooha · 04/04/2018 15:31

That should say in August.

Never say never, *Motoko". Ours is pretty old (1993) and only cost us £4k 3 years ago. It's a bit of a labour of love keeping it all running, but it keeps DP busy, and it has everything we need (cooker, fridge, bog, shower, comfy bed) and room for the dog. It took us 2 years to find one at a pr.ice we were prepared to pay though.

It's been life changing for us, we go away so much more now. We think nothing of going to a pub 90 miles away for dinner and stop overnight, and we have lovely weekends with DSS and DGD in the woods that DSS manages (forty acres all to ourselves!). We go and visit family more too, they always try and persuade us to stay in a spare bedroom but we prefer being in the van.

If you're more likely to stay on sites, a caravan is much cheaper. You can get quite a decent one for £1k if you look hard, and you don't have the extra costs of tax, insurance, MOT etc. We're not keen on sites, so caravanning wouldn't suit us. We love the whole Britstops thing and it's amazing how many pubs don't mind you stopping over in their car parks if you ask.

Ledderwoman · 04/04/2018 15:52

2 weeks in Western USA. I dread to think of the total cost but so far Flights direct from Manchester have been £760 return for DH and I.

We still need hotels in San Francisco, Las Vegas, Yosemite and Antelope Canyon. I'm guessing it will be around £3.5k altogether for the two of us.

FrogCow · 04/04/2018 15:56

£105 for four nights in a caravan, will take the same in spending money, will take food for breakfast/lunch/tea. Just me and DS who will be one.

FriedEggs1 · 04/04/2018 16:01

2 adults and one child. We're going to Rome around the back garden. Grin

Motoko · 04/04/2018 17:36

LakieLady

Yes, it's the freedom to just go off somewhere at the weekend that's so attractive, and stay in your own "home" where ever you are.
I've heard about Britstops. It sounds like a good way of keeping the costs down.

Oh, and that pasty sounds epic, especially for the cost!

MrsGasManridesagain · 04/04/2018 17:43

MinnieMousse you have details for the first place?

Mintylizzy9 · 04/04/2018 17:57

This year is a special one (my 40th) so splashing out. £5.5k for three adults and 1 kid. Two weeks in Florida and that covers flights, villa, car, 14 day Disney passes, and seats together on the plane so even tho it’s a lot of money I think we’ve got a good deal!

Still need to sort travel insurance and that will be £££ 😬

Last year same people one week in Spain with villa and car was £2k.

Normally it’s a couple of long weekends in Wales at a Haven at a couple of hundred a time.

All outside of school holidays. DS starts school this sept so this may be our last holiday for a while, the prices are a bloody joke during school hols!!!

Troubleinstore · 04/04/2018 18:10

Week in St Ives Cornwall in July £580 for a holiday let basement apartment. Week in Valencia Spain in September 2 bed apartment inc flights £750. All spends required on top plus food. 2 adults only

liz70 · 04/04/2018 18:31

We've just booked our spring holiday for next year - a week in a 4 - 6 berth extra wide caravan with DG and CH throughout, in Perthshire, for £289 (including £40 pet supplement, so £249 w/o pet). Swimming pool and activities etc. on the park as standard. There will be probably only be DH, DD3 and myself, so plenty of room. We're trying to keep costs down for the spring break, as we're planning a three week rail tour of Europe using sleeper trains for summer '19, which will cost around £3,500k for 5 of us (if DDs 1 and 2 come with us), so want to keep funds back for that.

For context our household income is about £27k net, no mortgage.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 04/04/2018 18:35

Summer not totally decided yet but just had a week self catering cottage in Devon for £1000 plus food, travel, etc. Summer is usually around £2k for self catering accommodation for two weeks plus travel, food, activities etc.

taratill · 04/04/2018 18:54

We're off to Canada, Vancouver and the Rockies for 17 nights in August, 2 adults 2 kids. Total cost including flights , 3 nights hotel and motor home hire £4200.

We will have additional costs, camp site fees and activities/ bike hire.

BakedBeans47 · 04/04/2018 19:01

Eurocamp, about £1500 including ferries.

I’d bloody love to be in a position to spend £10k plus on holidays! Sounds amazing.

DangerEgg · 04/04/2018 19:08

@Stillgameforalaugh

Have sent you a PM about your cottage Smile

Fijisky · 04/04/2018 20:45

TheresSomebodyAtTheDoor - that sounds like a really good price for Euro centre park. Can I ask which one your visiting ?

£400 is cheaper then the centre parks in longleat Wiltshire for a weekend!

2018SoFarSoGreat · 04/04/2018 21:15

Big birthday this year, so just booked a 7 day cruise to Mexico, 4 adults and 2 kids, with airfares (we are in the US) 7k. That does not include tips (not optional - about 560 total) or alcoholic drinks; am debating whether to stump up the extra 56 pppd for DS/DDIL - it may be cheaper that way Shock since the kids will be enjoying sea camp.

Twice a year trips back to UK, Do try not to fly coach if at all possible for long haul. However, I stay with family/friends so no hotel costs to pay. I DO pay for all the food and drink shopping when staying over though, so it might work out not much difference in the end Grin

Life is too short to skip vacations. Even vacationing locally is a joy, if that's all the budget can stretch to. It is the time spent with loved ones that make it special.

midnightmisssuki · 04/04/2018 21:32

If we go to the Far East - 10-12k for the 4 of us. 2 weeks.

TheresSomebodyAtTheDoor · 04/04/2018 21:39

Fijisky it's this one, I got confused by the branding and thought it was CP, but it's actually Hoseasons. The week for 5 of us is actually only £280....the rest is Eurotunnel cost. I'm starting to worry that it's a scam, we normally pay £1600 for something similar in the UK!! I think it's more affordable in the May half term as it isn't Dutch school holidays at the same time.

Glug44 · 04/04/2018 21:44

We have an annual budget of 2-3k. Spend it on a bunch of different breaks (approx 4).

NeonPink · 04/04/2018 22:09

Ours came to £2100 for 7 nights all inclusive to Lanzarote for 2 adults and 3 children next month. We will take 1k spending money.
