To ask how much you are paying for your Summer holiday?

How much do you/are you paying for your Summer holiday? What will you be doing? Abroad, UK, camping or hotel or cottage etc. How long for?

I just want to know if my holidays are very expensive.

The last few years we've been going to the same place and renting fab little cottages, the location is ideal for us and the places we've rented have been lovely, home from home.

A few people have been shocked at how much we've paid but I think they are kidding themselves to think you'd get equivalent in the school holidays for any less.

OP posts:

About £600 for a static caravan in Cornwall in August for 5 days.

kaytee87 · 04/04/2018 10:15

When did holidays become compulsory?

Don't think anyone said they were.

blueshoes · 04/04/2018 10:20

Have we heard from the OP what she is spending?

TeeniefaeTroon · 04/04/2018 10:24

£3600 two weeks all inclusive in Turkey for 2 adults and 2 dc at the end of July.

Orangettes · 04/04/2018 10:44

Why not go to China? Or US? Or Middle East? Holidays don't improve with distance travelled...we are so lucky to have Europe on our doorstep...and UK is full of great places to visit too.

MozzchopsThirty · 04/04/2018 11:16

Mine do, but hey each to their own
It was just a question not an instruction

Mercison · 04/04/2018 11:22

I don't think you could do those places justice in seven days including travel. I've been to them all over the years. And I really love Mallorca Smile

Pompom42 · 04/04/2018 11:39

Spain for 10 nights all inclusive 2 adults 2 children £3,600 seems steep but hotel has great reviews

LagunaBubbles · 04/04/2018 11:48

Why do people open threads that they suspect will make them feel like shit, read pages of them and then post bitching and whining about how crap it makes them feel?

Agree with this. There will always be someone on here with more money to spend than yourself so why does this come as a surprise to some people?

This year we are doing 2 Eurocamps in France booked through The Sun holidays. What cost us £650 for a week last year booked direct with Eurocamp for 1 week is only costing £187 a week booked through the Sun, so could afford to book another week in another Eurocamp. We are west of Scotland so doesnt include petrol money, ferries and tolls yet.

I have. Fascinating. Hectic. Not somewhere most children would paroularly enjoy.

Bears - Bournemouth have renovated 16 beach huts for overnight stays. We did it last year and it was truly wonderful

woolythoughts · 04/04/2018 11:55

9K for two adults - week carribean cruise and a week 5* all inclusive in barbados over Christmas and new year. Including premium flights.

Sallystyle · 04/04/2018 11:58

£900 for a caravan for 8 people, including two dogs locally.

My mum is coming and she is helping with money bless her.

I would love to go abroad, I want to go to Greece for two weeks of sun. One day it will happen.

It's not a fancy holiday but I am with my family and will make the best of it and enjoy it.

Dandellion · 04/04/2018 12:10

Seems a bit masochistic to trawl through a thread, to then bitch and whine that other people are having nicer holidays than you.

It was clearly stated in the title exactly what would be discussed, so get over it.

thesockgap · 04/04/2018 12:15

A holiday can cost as much or as little as you want it to! We always do self catering so my prices may be skewed by the fact I'm not including spending money, which mostly goes on meals. This year we've paid what I consider to be an eye-watering amount of about £3500 for 2 weeks in a villa on the Costa Blanca, plus about £1200 on flights. (For five of us). I have to say that's the most we've ever spent but we had a small windfall so decided to push the boat out as it'll probably be the last time 18yo DS1 wants to come with us. I know lots of people who spend this much every year, but this is a one-off for us.
Last year we paid £2200 for 11 nights in a villa in Portugal plus about £800 on flights. A few years back we rented an apartment, again in Portugal, for £800 for 10 days, that was a bargain.
Many years we've not gone abroad and have instead rented cottages in Wales, usually paying about £500 to £750 for a week. Those have been some of our cheapest yet most memorable holidays. No travel costs other than a couple of tanks of petrol, days out were cheap or free either visiting beaches or using National Trust passes. And we took nearly all our own food with us as we could pile the car high. I think we'll probably do this again next year.

Comeymemo · 04/04/2018 12:23

A fortnight in Canada, family of 4, around 20k (including business class flights from our home in Asia).

bluebeck · 04/04/2018 12:28

3 adults (me and 2 young adult DC) £10k Cuba/New York two weeks.

Might be more spending money to add on top of that.

TheIrregularChoice · 04/04/2018 12:32

£535 for a week at Butlins in July, two adults and two small children, self catering but in the best accommodation.

MinaPaws · 04/04/2018 12:34

About £1.5k inclusive of flights for a week in a huge, central apartment in a European capital city, high season for four people. Spending money will be another grand.

StickThatInYourPipe · 04/04/2018 12:34

£950 1 week in Greece A/I for 2 adults

sonjadog · 04/04/2018 12:47

About 5k for a 10 day trip to Montana. Just me. It is more than I would normally spend but it is a particular trip that I have wanted to do for a long time and that will hopefully give me insights that I can use for years to come.

I thought it was such a lot of money to use on a trip, but seeing what other people spend on their summer holiday, I feel like it isn´t too bad a price for it!

£200 for a family festival in May for a week, including food, for 2 adults and 3 children. We camp regularly so not paying out for any equipment. I’m not allowed time off over the summer holidays.

TheresSomebodyAtTheDoor · 04/04/2018 13:19

£1600 for 2 adults, 3 children for 10 nights in Majorca, including flights in August. I spent hours and hours scouring airbnb and tripadvisor to find somewhere that we would all enjoy.
We will jeep the costs down by taking gand luggage only.

We've also got a week in European Centre parcs for £400 including eurotunnel in the May half term.

MaudesMum · 04/04/2018 13:29

10 days in Croatia at the end of June - flights, a few extra nights and a week of walking with a small group. Cost about £1,200 plus spending money, so no change from £1500 - just for me. As a single person, I always get hit by not being able to split costs such as rooms, car hire between two - but I can also go where I want and when I want! Looking forward to warmth, swimming in the sea, and exploring a new country!
