Just curiosity really about different areas wages and bills etc.

Would you share;

  1. what part of the uk your in.
  2. what type job you do (just if it's low level, management etc)
  3. your wage
  4. your rent / mortgage
  5. what size your house is.

I'm in Yorkshire,
I am in a semi skilled job and earn a 22k salary if I work full time hours (39 hours a week)
We rent a 2 bed terraced house for £390 a month!

I've seen loads of people saying they spent 1k or over a month on rent in various parts of the country and I've been absolutely gobsmacked! That's almost my entire wage!

Where I live it is cheap to be able to rent a not particularly fantastic 3 bed terrace with downstairs bathroom and damp problems for £850 per month. Westcountry so not London or anywhere similar. Having to pay the equivalent of one person's monthly wage on a family home is fairly common I think.

HermioneKipper · 01/04/2018 10:16

Live in south east. Relatively skilled professional job. I earn £40k, husband earns £45k. Own our 2 bed house - mortgage is £1000 but we overpay £200 per month. Would like to move to bigger house but childcare costs crippling and don’t think we can afford jump to next house

Slartybartfast · 01/04/2018 10:17

WHY?

isseywithcats · 01/04/2018 10:18

Wage £0.pa
Mortgage/Rent £0pa (I paid off my mortgage years ago)
Large ex LA house 3 bed with drive and gardens.

AnnaleeP · 01/04/2018 10:22

West Midlands, we both do similar skilled information management type roles household income of 90k, mortgage £600 for a roomy 4 bed Victorian terrace. I will say though that we live in a particularly cheap area that isn't for everyone. We're happy though, as we overpay and will be mortgage free within a decade.

ZenNudist · 01/04/2018 10:22

I think this reads like market research. I dont think you should encourage people to post this kind of info.

StoorieHoose · 01/04/2018 10:22

Data mining in its most blatant form! Why is anyone giving you this sort of information over the internet?

SillyJelly · 01/04/2018 10:22

I'm in north East Anglia.

I earn 22k p/a FT at fairly low level outdoors job.

House is a small 2 1/2 bed Terrace .

Mortgage 15 yrs and £400 pm (previous occupants rented at £650 pm)
Council tax £180 pm
Other bills roughly £200 pm

zomlingsattack · 01/04/2018 10:22

South east, my semi professional 36k, dh 22k. Small 2 bed semi 1050 per month (cheap for area) nice landlord who doesn't hike rent up every year.

Slartybartfast · 01/04/2018 10:23

Agree Zen
Be Curious about something else op

HairyToity · 01/04/2018 10:23

North Wales. DH a self employed electrician and I have a professional part-time job. Our joint income is 50k before tax. We are mortgage free. DH is very frugal and worked very hard from 16 (now 40) and saved saved saved. He lived rent free with his parents to 26, had 100k for a deposit, and paid off the mortgage 9 years after purchase. He paid £1200 per month, although this was overpaying. Actual mortgage was £550 per month.

Our house is 3 bed. We have 2 children. Could afford bigger, but we like the village and property. Would rather be careful with accumulating stuff, and have good storage.

EphraimLevi · 01/04/2018 10:23

South East, I don’t work, DH is a software engineer earning c£90k.

Mortgage is £1250pm. Four bed detached newbuild.

thirstyformore · 01/04/2018 10:25

4 bed semi. Think we pay about £800 a month in mortgage. Between us we earn around £100k. Live in Yorkshire in a nice market town. Both have professional jobs.

Average house prices in my town are apparently £240k (although if you go 10 miles to our nearest city you can still pick up a terrace for less than £50k).

NameChanger22 · 01/04/2018 10:25

East Midlands
Wage - 13k, part-time, semi-skilled
House - bought 20 years ago very cheap, mortgage free
2 bed Victorian terrace with large rooms, small garden.

BertieBotts · 01/04/2018 10:26

Don't share then if you're worried about data being mined? Admittedly this would be better in chat where it would disappear. But we should have more openness about finances, plus it's interesting to see how other people live.

These kinds of threads have changed my outlook over time from thinking 20k was a lot of money to earn to aspiring and aiming higher.

GrumpyPantz · 01/04/2018 10:27

Surely it's somewhat irrelevant as your mortgage depends on the amount of equity you have? We pay £500 per month for a house worth £350k because our mortgage is only £120k. Our friends pay £700 per month for a house that's half the value of ours because they only had a small deposit.

MelanieSmooter · 01/04/2018 10:28
  1. South
  2. Low Paid, part time. DH earns 3x as much.
  3. 10k
  4. £1250! Shock
  5. 5 bed

Our rent is very reasonable for our property tbh. Nice area. 3 beds here go for the same.

hotTuna · 01/04/2018 10:30

SW.

Senior management and DH is a surgeon.

~£330k between us.

6 bed detached with a good sized garden is about £4k a month.

HotChocolat · 01/04/2018 10:34

Oxfordshire

Partner and I both earn £19,000 and pay £950 rent for a one bed bungalow. sad reality is that we will never be able to afford our own home

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 01/04/2018 10:35

And my DOB...

RandomLadyFromTheNorth · 01/04/2018 10:40

Wow I knew London was expensive but it's crazy how expensive some other places are!
My DH had a job offer in Edinburgh but we couldn't afford to live there on the wage offered so had to turn it down. Crazy!

(And what bertiebotts said)
