Just curiosity really about different areas wages and bills etc.

Would you share;

  1. what part of the uk your in.
  2. what type job you do (just if it's low level, management etc)
  3. your wage
  4. your rent / mortgage
  5. what size your house is.

I'm in Yorkshire,
I am in a semi skilled job and earn a 22k salary if I work full time hours (39 hours a week)
We rent a 2 bed terraced house for £390 a month!

I've seen loads of people saying they spent 1k or over a month on rent in various parts of the country and I've been absolutely gobsmacked! That's almost my entire wage!

South East, I'm a SAHM, DH in management on 27k. Mortgage £350ish a month, but only because ILs gave us a massive deposit. 3 bed terraced house (ex council so rokms are a good size) with decent size garden.

Wanderlust1984 · 01/04/2018 13:53

Holy crap, I'm never moving south! West Cumbria here, single parent working in management and I earn £55k, mortgage is £350 but paid a big deposit

BarbaraOcumbungles · 01/04/2018 13:58

Midlands
Household income 75k me housing dh management
3 bed detached - mortgage of 170k

We have a nice quality of life because we live somewhere relatively cheap.

ASatisfyingThump · 01/04/2018 14:12

Also not too concerned about the info - I'm so average you couldn't pick me out of a line-up, any details I post could apply to thousands of women in the SE alone. I think it's quite interesting to see how things are in different parts of the country, for example I'd always heard the North was cheap because the wages were lower, but on this thread I'm not seeing that.

You don’t have to post. If you’re cautious, you’ll name change every so often (as I do and I have been on MN for a long time!)

SE. Middle & senior management roles. Household income of six figures. No mortgage (paid off). 5 bed detached.

Yes, it’s nosey but personally, I have no issues with posting on a public anonymous forum. I wouldn’t post my dob nor my bank account details but I don’t mind sharing generic financial details about my job/salary.

SmallB0at · 01/04/2018 14:55

Find house prices or rent prices on Right move. Find salaries per place on Google, Interest rates are low now, they used to be much higher for mortgages and savings. I believe BBC website had some comparison figures recently related to wages and accommodation

ghostyslovesheets · 01/04/2018 14:57

RandomLadyFromTheNorth · 01/04/2018 15:00

Yep call me nosy, I admit I am!
If being nosy bothers you then don't give any info.

DH and I are slowly saving to buy and potentially looking to move (ironically away from nosy family! Ha.) but a lot of places seem to be outside our price range. 😔

I don't know how anyone on a modest salary affords to live in London! Let's just 👣 stamp on that dream! 🙈
