The thread continues....if it hasn't continued elsewhere! @Lateforall it was me who questioned Lobella loves depression wears lippy campaign. I get that the idea is that being a bit glam might be a way of coping. And i have been guilty of putting my face on to carry on in the world. I get that not everyone with pnd is sat at home in pjs unshowered with greasy hair. But I just find the whole thing so false on her account - maybe that is because I know of her in real life.

But I think so many of them have massivley over exaggerated aspects of their lives because it sells. Whether that is FODs clumsy parenting or whatever. But it really doesnt sit well

@Mumofkids I'm not sure why you'd post loads of pics of the hotels and keep @-big them unless it was a freebie or you're trying to blag an upgrade though.

PavlovaPrincess · 01/04/2018 10:13

@-ing rather than @-big.

CadyHeron · 01/04/2018 10:14

Pavlova - I know that the adverts that have been so criticised in the past thread clearly say advert on them,so that argument clearly falls down there.

AgathaMystery · 01/04/2018 10:15

AMR? Who?

Mumofkids · 01/04/2018 10:15

@pavlovaprincess I agree, my little self I might tag somewhere I liked so people knew where it was (if I had lots of followers or anyone interested 🤣) but these accounts are a different level altogether.

CadyHeron · 01/04/2018 10:16

Oh,and who said I don't know anything about Instagram?I clearly said I use it lots.
Are we only allowed to like certain accounts in order to be allowed an opinion?

PavlovaPrincess · 01/04/2018 10:17

@AgathaMystery AMR is A Model Recommends.

Mumofkids · 01/04/2018 10:19

DLAM's stories look like an ad, for the spa sensory/hot tub/sauna and no I don't think you'd tag every different story like that if you weren't obliged to.

PavlovaPrincess · 01/04/2018 10:23

@CadyHeron nobody said you don't know anything IG.

But this thread is called 'Instamums' On the last thread, you said you'd never heard of MOD and FOD til this thread and you don't know who any of the others are.

I think you've finally found a thread where posters are paying you attention and so you're in it for the long run.

Enjoy.

KerryMucklowe · 01/04/2018 10:24

My favourite instamum Is 3princesses1dude - I've followed her for about 2 years and she is totally honest if she is sent things. She doesn't have a fake shiny set up and just seems very true to life to me.

What does everyone think to the Michalaks ? I like their videos but since reading these discussions on here everytime they mention anything I'm wondering if it's an AD! ShockGrin

CadyHeron · 01/04/2018 10:26

No, I didn't, I clearly said I had heard of some. Motherpukka for example, I like her.

3asAbird · 01/04/2018 10:26

I think its safe to assume

DLAM holiday in cornwall is indeed an ad or a freebie.

Its clear lots other intsa mums familiar or have stayed at this hotel.
Which makes me think they using influencer advertising as key method same was as guardian highlighted insta power and the dress.
I always used to think stays and holidays would go travel bloggers/vloggers rather than Insta families/mum's but seems anyone with enough followers can blag a trip or discount.

Expect elle Darby the irish hotel debacle that backfired for sure.

IsThisAWindUp · 01/04/2018 10:27

I thought it was an interesting article too. So many influencers with huge followings as well that I had never heard of. I’d actually never heard of most of the instamums before these threads. I mainly followed a few fashion bloggers and some crafty type bloggers that seemed to drift off their blogs into the microblogging Insta format. I think a lot of the latter group haven’t monetised their blogs and some post rarely. I get the feeling they have become a bit bored with Insta now.

FiloPasty · 01/04/2018 10:27

I don’t think Bedruthan is an ad it’s a long established very busy hotel, especially with London private schools set, I can’t see them gifting an Easter week where they would always be full. Out if season yes but not at peak time.

PavlovaPrincess · 01/04/2018 10:33

@FiloPasty that's a good point actually.

But if DLAM marked things as ad or gift, we wouldn't be speculating about this, because we'd know.

IsThisAWindUp · 01/04/2018 10:34

I think it’s an ad. The hotel commented to say how excited they were she was staying with them. She didn’t disclose the Morocco holiday and that was an ad.

IsThisAWindUp · 01/04/2018 10:35

Agree. If she was consistently clear we wouldn’t be speculating.

Mumofkids · 01/04/2018 10:36

Exactly, it is speculation but they could have posted that when she tagged them, then upgraded her or given her extras, who knows because it's not clear on her account.

MadameGrizzly · 01/04/2018 10:54

I think instead of using her children to sell baby products, modelrecommends could find a different source of household income. Then anonymous child models could sell the baby products with the full benefit of regulation in regards to hours worked and income protected.

Sofialemon · 01/04/2018 10:59

@MadameGrizzly

I think if instamums had the choice between some new followers, who may very well be 'hate readers' so no engagement, or to be able to merrily keep placing products and accepting advertising without disclosing...

They'd all choose the undisclosed advertising, so I'm sure they rue the day MN shone a light on their practices and also questioned how ethical it is to base your business around images of your children

As I've said, the majority of them don't seem to give a fuck what is said on these threads. A few may have changed the way they post to follow the ASA guidelines but that may well be them following advice from their management.

I think what you don't seem to understand on here is that many, many insta users, like myself were well aware of the undisclosed ads, sponsored posts, gifting etc that was going on and just didn't mind.

Areyouinthegame · 01/04/2018 11:03

Mind it or not but there are rules which aren't being followed.

MadameGrizzly · 01/04/2018 11:03

@Delatron CLTS and FashionLift liked an inane IG post yesterday about how anyone who thinks complying with the law in regards to disclosing advertising just needs to get some 'perspective' because there are more important things in life.

Demanding 'perspective' is just another way of shutting down discussion about disclosure of advertising and product placement. Like, some boring women on MN couldn't possibly be able to have an opinion on climate change AND disclosure - get some perspective, hun!

You need to assume everything on CLTS and FashionLift's feed is advertising.

MadameGrizzly · 01/04/2018 11:06

You are completely entitled not to mind, Sofia. It doesn't change the fact that disclosure is mandatory.

PavlovaPrincess · 01/04/2018 11:07

Hey @Sofialemon do you know who does give a fuck about undisclosed advertising on Instagram?

The Advertising Standards Agency.

Jelliefrey · 01/04/2018 11:13

Just to add to the comments re MOD replying that she is reviewing the holiday for her followers... that's what the brand has essentially paid her to do (she's using #ad) so she hasn't said anything wrong. This isn't really different to reading a review of a hotel in a newspaper or magazine where the travel journalist is staying in the hotel for free. Obviously discluding 'secret shopper' style reviews. Again, beauty journalists are sent beauty products for free and then include them in the magazine (and don't have to put ad or gift, rightly or wrongly). It's the same with some other sectors like fashion, PRs build relationships with brands and lend/ give them clothes and then they feature products editorially. So really this topic should include magazines and newspaper editorial, no? Or am I missing something?
