The thread continues....if it hasn't continued elsewhere! @Lateforall it was me who questioned Lobella loves depression wears lippy campaign. I get that the idea is that being a bit glam might be a way of coping. And i have been guilty of putting my face on to carry on in the world. I get that not everyone with pnd is sat at home in pjs unshowered with greasy hair. But I just find the whole thing so false on her account - maybe that is because I know of her in real life.

But I think so many of them have massivley over exaggerated aspects of their lives because it sells. Whether that is FODs clumsy parenting or whatever. But it really doesnt sit well

Yes, agreed.

MOD marked it as an ad so I can't get worked up about anything else.

I think the comment she replied to was quite rude tbh (and nothing about ads or gifts) but her answer was hilarious.

'I'm just doing it for the fans'.

CertainlyChoco · 01/04/2018 12:35

@Pavlova ignore Cady. I've done so. No sensible person worth listening to would be that over invested, posting past midnight and it is almost like she refreshes instamum thread every 5 mins to get a reaction. Sad.

Areyouinthegame · 01/04/2018 12:37

His house is really nice. But eBay gave him all stuff to be featured by him . so its a ad.

MadameGrizzly · 01/04/2018 12:37

And to be ever clearer than crystal clear, no influencer is ever going to post a negative brand review, so the brand always has control over content.

MadameGrizzly · 01/04/2018 12:38

It is definitely an ad, Areyouinthegame.

PavlovaPrincess · 01/04/2018 12:39

@CertainlyChoco agree. I think it's the only option Smile

Areyouinthegame · 01/04/2018 12:40

And eBay know what they are doing.

Mumofkids · 01/04/2018 12:41

@madamegrizzly the thing is, if it's free your impressions and review would be completely worthless, unless you had say 3 or 4 of something to compare.
I recently stayed somewhere off peak that was ok, but if I'd paid peak prices I would not have been happy with value for money.
I literally cannot believe anyone would pay £20k on that holiday after that review, but I guess I must be wrong!

Areyouinthegame · 01/04/2018 12:43

Destinology have terrible customer service. Check out their reviews on trust pilot.

Areyouinthegame · 01/04/2018 12:44

That's to anyone influenced by mods ad

Reallycantbebothered · 01/04/2018 12:48

You can get same holiday for less if you DONT use destinology....just saying but if you do, you're obviously buying into a lifestyle

CadyHeron · 01/04/2018 12:48

This bit makes sense, jelly, I can see how that works (copying this bit as it is the bit of the post I am referring to)

I used to work in PR and we would send an influencer a genuine gift to hopefully organically make them a fan of the brand.

Giving gifts would put them in front of a wider, targeted audience and it would obviously stand to reason that you wanted them to use them in their posts.
I think that's where the ASA gets confusing - if it's something they've been sent as a gift, something they haven't asked for and it's just a present, is it then an ad?
It kind of is, really isn't it. If they've been sent something they should say so. So that people clearly know that it was a gift that they are using.
However - sometimes you might picture something you own and like already in your posts. Doesn't automatically mean that if it's not tagged ad it means they're not declaring. It could quite easily be something of their own, I suppose.

MadameGrizzly · 01/04/2018 12:48

That's exactly right, Mumofkids.

They want all the free stuff and paid for advertising they can possibly attract. If they really feel a product or service doesn't fit their feed, they just wouldn't review it at all. They'd never do a negative product review.

thenorthernluce · 01/04/2018 12:51

I’m not actually on Instagram but regularly look at posts by a blogger (Poppy Dinsey) I’ve been following for aeons. She put up a photo of her current skincare routine and preceded each item by declaring whether she’d bought it herself (5 items) or it was a gift from a brand (2 items). I think this is a really good step and one I’m sure lots of you would like to see others copy.

Mumofkids · 01/04/2018 12:52

@madamegrizzly I'm guessing they'd just hope that the exposure and stories etc would just look fab, so followers would be saying 'wow that looks amazing, where are you?' From my perspective other holidays they've been on have looked far more enticing.

Fruitbowl2 · 01/04/2018 13:02

I've reported various posts MGrizzly 🙋🏼. The ASA have said they're cracking down on this stuff.

Fruitbowl2 · 01/04/2018 13:03

DLAM did actually show a pair of shoes her kid had been sent and said she wouldn't have bought them, but her kid liked them.

Mumofkids · 01/04/2018 13:05

@fruitbowl2 yes I saw that!

Jelliefrey · 01/04/2018 13:05

Nope not me...

PavlovaPrincess · 01/04/2018 13:08

@Fruitbowl2 yes, 'kindly sent these shoes'. No #ad or #gift though.

PavlovaPrincess · 01/04/2018 13:08

And I doubt she meant 'kindly sent these shoes after I kindly gave them money in exchange for them'

Fruitbowl2 · 01/04/2018 13:10

Good point Pavolva DLAM is shocking at #ad.

Fruitbowl2 · 01/04/2018 13:11

DLAM also stayed at a hotel in Windsor with her mum and only tagged it as paid partnership at the end of the stay.

MadameGrizzly · 01/04/2018 13:13

@Fruitbowl2 👏

800msprint · 01/04/2018 13:17

I totally would have got back on board with mod, dlam, clts if they would have stepped up and acknowledged all this and would just be clear about what they are being paid for.

But they haven't. It's opened my eyes to how up their own " they are actually! So they have gone down in my estimation even more. Not that they care!

I know that a mag editor thought a well known instamum thought she was entitled and had changed a lot when she went fishing around for a hol with the mag pre Disney and Caribbean.

Completely greedy. It's like you get brainwashed. All the likes and followers and fawning must do something to your ego.

MP, Erica Davies, Frugality, DMBL all have. And so I respect them more.

I just don't understand why they think they can just do what either like. They are a business. End of.

I just hope the asa and Instagram change their regs so these people have legal requirements to adhere to soon.
