The thread continues....if it hasn't continued elsewhere! @Lateforall it was me who questioned Lobella loves depression wears lippy campaign. I get that the idea is that being a bit glam might be a way of coping. And i have been guilty of putting my face on to carry on in the world. I get that not everyone with pnd is sat at home in pjs unshowered with greasy hair. But I just find the whole thing so false on her account - maybe that is because I know of her in real life.

But I think so many of them have massivley over exaggerated aspects of their lives because it sells. Whether that is FODs clumsy parenting or whatever. But it really doesnt sit well

I think if instamums had the choice between some new followers, who may very well be 'hate readers' so no engagement, or to be able to merrily keep placing products and accepting advertising without disclosing...

They'd all choose the undisclosed advertising, so I'm sure they rue the day MN shone a light on their practices and also questioned how ethical it is to base your business around images of your children.

MadameGrizzly · 01/04/2018 02:37

That article is interesting, choccy, as it stresses how influencer marketing is predicatated upon authenticity and relationships. That's why the thread keeps coming back to MOD - she was fantastically authentic and built strong relationships.

A holiday to the Caribbean shortly after a family holiday to Florida doesn't feel authentic to the audience she worked so hard to build a relationship with. I'd say this scheduling has damaged the product brands and the IG account brand.

I wonder how many instamum mortgages/renos/credit card debt are dependent upon Instagram income?

Timeforachange2018 · 01/04/2018 06:45

I am new to these threads- I missed the first 2 and read a bit of 3.2 and have found it fascinating. I dipped in and out of MOD/FOD over the last year or 2 and at first found them funny and was slightly envious of their life. But recently I have found it made me feel very uncomfortable with all the paid partnerships and as has been already mentioned, grabby and not authentic or real. I follow Yoga Girl on insta too and she has been accused at times of portraying a perfect life but actually she has been using her insta fame for social change and uses her advertising to fund projects to help - like setting up an animal sanctuary etc.

Jkeedz · 01/04/2018 07:58

AMR latest Instagram pic of her front door ( while plugging ASOS ) & someone commented on passing her house ( and stopping ) enroute to Cornwall and hoping AMR doesnt get creepy stalkers. They only recognized it because AMR house bragged for months when she moved.
The poster wasnt being creepy just pointing out she only noticed because AMR has put it out for all to see.

MadameGrizzly · 01/04/2018 08:22

Basically anyone who believes it is unwise to put tons of personal information online alongside photos of your children will be labelled as neurotic and ridiculous.

Until something unfortunate happens to an IG child.

I'd say an account featuring small children (dressed and undressed) has more chance of creepy followers than, say, a straight fashion, travel or interiors account.

Jkeedz · 01/04/2018 09:22

AMR features her children so much to help flog baby paraphernalia that they even have their own Instagram accounts. Obviously they haven’t consented or are even aware. Maybe she wants them to be models or something.

Mumofkids · 01/04/2018 09:35

I was determined not to comment 🤣 But that response from MOD just says it all.

"I'm on holiday reviewing a resort for you'

As others have said, how selfless and kind she is. She really does need some agent help in her responses on how not to come across as an entitled twit.

ZenNudist · 01/04/2018 09:37

I haven't followed the Insta threads could someone summarise the main points for new thread readers and explain abbreviations MOD etc?

I dont do instagram. Dont do facebook. Dont watch reality tv. Not trying to claim moral superiority as i do obviously use mumsnet but im not the kind of person to fail to recognise advertising drrssed up as something else.

Mumofkids · 01/04/2018 09:48

@zennudist it wasn't advertising at all. Not really something anyone would recognise. The abbreviations are Instagram accounts.

CadyHeron · 01/04/2018 09:48

Yeah, but that's her choice though. You may not agree with it, but there's nothing wrong with it either.
If she's "flogging" say baby clothes, what else do you want her to put them on instead?
Something of a similar size they'd fit, like the cat maybe?
Clothes go on someone they'll fit to showcase, and if it's clothes for a baby it stands to reason it'll be put on the baby so people can see what it looks like.

karmacoma1 · 01/04/2018 09:49

“I’m reviewing a holiday resort for you”

The lack of self awareness is staggering.

LastDrWho · 01/04/2018 09:53

I just had a catch up @CadyHeron please take a break, you must have other things to do rather than sitting on MN all day and night. This thread has been dead for days with no new points - you'll not miss out on anything new.

CadyHeron · 01/04/2018 09:58

Why should I take a break? Other people are allowed to post too. You really don't like anything sensible being posted do you?
People are allowed to disagree.
Or are you only allowed to post hahahahaha #hashtag #omg type posts?
Why keep trying to drag down to a personal level?

IsThisAWindUp · 01/04/2018 10:01

You aren’t really discussing anything though Cady, just cutting and pasting sections and dissecting the words. The Guardian article was interesting, worth discussing. What did you think about what that was saying?

PavlovaPrincess · 01/04/2018 10:01

@Mumofkids I felt the same then I saw MOD's comment.

The think is, I actually like her account a lot. She doesn't over feature her kids anymore and she's started marking things as gifts and ads. I like her style and her interior stuff so even if she decides not to bother with the midwife stuff anymore she has enough content.

But there's absolutely no acknowledgement of how lucky she she is to be getting all this luxury free stuff thrown at her. It comes across a wee bit arrogant. There were some good comments about it on the one of the other threads about it.

CadyHeron · 01/04/2018 10:02

I'm interested in the discussion between influencers, reach and the discussion behind it that the thread professed to be about in the first place.
If you're just here for fluff, account watching etc crack on, nobody's stopping you.

Delatron · 01/04/2018 10:02

Was wondering about DLAM and Bedruthen. It's eyewateringly expensive but no reference to gift/ad so have to assume it's paid for by them.

laurahill88 · 01/04/2018 10:02

It’s such a shame that the whole tone of this thread has been lowered and new acccounts are popping up purely to make personal attacks and bring it all down a notch or two. I give it two days max before mumsnet HQ are removing it

CadyHeron · 01/04/2018 10:04

IsThisAWindUp - that's how you quote on here, if you don't like, take it up with MN as there's no proper quote function.
Easier to see what I'm referring to if you quote as the thread's so fast moving 10 people more have posted by the time the reply gets quoted.

PavlovaPrincess · 01/04/2018 10:04

@delatron I'm sure that's an advert or has at least been partly gifted by the hotel.

DLAM never, ever puts marks stuff as gifts or ads though.

Mumofkids · 01/04/2018 10:08

@laurahill88 plenty of the other threads had far more personal comments and were not pulled. I only had a bit of a read of the first 2 but some of it was very, very personal. Why would something get pulled discussing a comment an influencer has made? It is an impressive come back to a freebie, given very few followers could afford a £20k holiday and if that's been a review then I'm astounded. A few pics posing with a drink of some flowers is not much of a review. She's do better to keep quiet.

Delatron · 01/04/2018 10:09

Ahhh pavlovaprincess I've only just started following her. My other favourites DMBL40, Fashionlift and CLTS are all getting much better at the disclosure thing. Wonder why DLAM isn't on board?

CadyHeron · 01/04/2018 10:09

IsThisAWindUp - what did I think to the Guardian article? (See,no bolding, I know how much it winds you up so haven't just for you - makes more sense to instead of just parroting back your question though)
I thought it was really interesting. That's why there should be clear ad markers on accounts, as at the end of the day IGers are making businesses out of their feeds and in order to do that they need to feel relatable. Like your mate. But at the same time need to make it clear that it's an ad so not to dupe people.
There's far too many people out there who really do not seem to have a clue and get far too sucked in and are a little bit gullible or easily swayed.

PavlovaPrincess · 01/04/2018 10:10

@CadyHeron you aren't discussing though. You know next to nothing about the people being discussed, you admitted yourself that you'd never heard of them til this thread, so why you're so invested in defending them, I have no idea. Some of us have followed these people for years.

What you're actually doing is picking apart people's posts with no real knowledge of what's behind it.

Mumofkids · 01/04/2018 10:10

Motheroffiveboys stayed at Bedruthen recently and that wasn't marked as ad, and MOD commented how lovely it was with kids club, so it's clearly the place to go if you can afford it! I'd like to know if they were ads.
