This from the ASA

We are calling for evidence on people’s understanding of labels and other identifiers that are intended to indicate that online content is advertising. Ads that are not obviously identifiable as such have the potential to mislead people and damage trust in advertising

o influencer marketing; on social media platforms, blogs and vlogs for example.

o paid-for ads and posts on social media platforms;

I've only dipped in and out of these threads. My point has probably been made a hundred times. I like following beautiful people on Instagram and I love looking at beautiful houses and holidays and lives. I go off them when they're advertising the freebies though. That's the problem. It's all a bit ugh when they're not on real holidays. When you can see through it. They never get a long enough long haul holiday for free. It must be exhausting going such a long way for such short trips, and the effort that the photos must take, like all the skinny people surrounded by enormous breakfasts you know they're never going to eat. It's all fake.
My favourite instagrammer is jetsetmama, because she's funny and real and lives a gorgeous life with her gorgeous family. Was disappointed today to see she's on a free trip to Dubai. Wonder if that will be the start of flogging stuff...

LyndaSnellsFeet · 31/03/2018 16:59

Ooh I have four insta mum points for:

  • yoyo buggy. But at the risk of sounding like a dick we got ours before everyone else jumped on the bandwagon.
  • red lipstick
  • scamp and dude sweatshirt
  • method cleaning products
MarshaBradyo · 31/03/2018 16:59

Great list and I’ll as

Mama Bird top - wth did they come from?
Knitted bonnets - every baby / toddler must wear one at all times inside (waiting for hair?) this may be the Scandi type versions

Reallycantbebothered · 31/03/2018 17:00

I follow them..( 30's fixer upper) ..I love the songs that he edits together
I have taken the advice on this thread and unfollowed many of the accounts I had only recently started following, due to me off work unwell for last 6 months. I originally used Instagram for diy ideas , and am still following these accounts, but got caught in a rabbit hole and found myself following some of the 'trendy mums' which I'm certainly not, as I live in a very rural area .
I think I was caught up in their worlds as it was so different to mine and gave me an escape into what life might be like in civilisation!
How wrong I was, it all seems so false and competitive....my dcs are all grown up now thankfully, and I'm glad IG wasn't around when they were toddlers as I might have felt so inadequate in being unable to keep up with these trends. Its all so false, competitive and grabby
Thankfully I'm in my 50's, I've got my own style and I'm too overweight to look good in what they're touting anyway but I do wear boden Bretons ( but I bought my first boden clothes 20 yrs ago, so I could have been an early influencer! )
I do think there will be a lot of issues when these instagram kids become teenagers though, having lived their lives on social media and their expectations versus what life in the big bad world really is like

Andmary · 31/03/2018 17:00

Jamoncrumpets
The Renault filled with cameras
Scamp and dude all mums have the sweatshirt too plus large makeup bag ( this may be beauty/fashion and anything else you send me bloggers though.)

jamoncrumpets · 31/03/2018 17:01

Lynda you're in the lead at the moment!

EeebyMum · 31/03/2018 17:02

Seven Seventeen Candles
Metro tiles
Aesop hand wash

LyndaSnellsFeet · 31/03/2018 17:03

Also Tobias and the bear leggings, which actually I also buy for my DS Blush

jamoncrumpets · 31/03/2018 17:04

Ok Lynda you're running away with this, unless MOD comes on here - then we're all fucked. She has full points.

PavlovaPrincess · 31/03/2018 17:04

What is the obsession with Farrow & Ball btw? It's shite.

PavlovaPrincess · 31/03/2018 17:07

Oh and don't forget 'The Wall'.

They all somehow manage to find a wall (street art optional, but extra points if it has it) that they can take photos of themselves in front of.

jamoncrumpets · 31/03/2018 17:07

Oh yes, it used to be 'a jazzy wall' but now it's more 'a muted wall'

laurahill88 · 31/03/2018 17:12

I’m going to add ‘fresh blooms’ to the instagrammer list

LyndaSnellsFeet · 31/03/2018 17:14

Also Stan Smiths

Sofialemon · 31/03/2018 17:16

I have or have had 5 things on the list. I disagree about F&B paint, I love it. I have various colours around the house, I have the Hague Blue. No doubt you all hate me even more now.

PavlovaPrincess · 31/03/2018 17:16

Knitted bonnets

I know. Who wouldn't want their kid to look like an evacuee in the 1940's?

Seriously though, this is the power of IG. If I'd have seen those advertised in a magazine I'd have done a wry grin and then moved on. Now, I'm wondering if I should just have another baby so I can put it in an knitted bonnet.

I've also spent most of yesterday trying to track down a pair of glasses that I saw an instamama wearing (they weren't advertising, just wearing them).

And I would normally say that I'm not easily swayed/influenced. No wonder brands are going all out to court the grammers with a large following.

jamoncrumpets · 31/03/2018 17:16

99 points for Hague Blue Sofia!

LyndaSnellsFeet · 31/03/2018 17:17

Go and look at cissywears Instagram and you'll see the full list of requirements for insta kids and decor.

LyndaSnellsFeet · 31/03/2018 17:18

I have no opinion about F&B paint except that I genuinely don't see how it's any better than regular paint.

PavlovaPrincess · 31/03/2018 17:19

I have 'Hague Blue' too (except it's not F&B, same shade but Dulux).

Had it about 4 yrs and bought it by accident. I'm heartily sick of it now, it's all over the interior accounts so we're painting over it soon.

I guess it can work the other way too.

MarshaBradyo · 31/03/2018 17:21

I’m about to use Hague Blue because it’s better than Stiffkey blue (already here when bought)
Blush
All items are paid for though

  • Putting your big child in a Moses basket with the baby and shoot from above

I did my front door in F&B (inchyra blue, in case I get any points for that 😉). Only been done a year and it's all chipped at the edges and around the handle.

Going back to own brand and dulux.

MarshaBradyo · 31/03/2018 17:23

Everything kind of looks brown and taupe
