To ask how many bras you wear in a week?

Please help settle an argument? My 13 yr old has just asked me for more bras, she has 6 (plus a sports bra) so 7, and likes to change them and wash them after each wear. I think this is utterly ridiculous, I change mine every 2/3 days, she thinks i’m minging.

To complicate it she’s a small back but already in an F cup so it’s quite difficult and expensive to get a bra for her. So just wondering what everyone else does?

Small back F cup here as well. She is quite young and bosomy ( I was ) and is probably adjusting to the fact that, ugh, here is another surprising part of the body that can get sweaty. I would indulge her on this matter and stock her up.

I change every other day, every day in summer, possibly twice if it is a sticky one, change sports bras after every use.

kimanda · 24/03/2018 15:10

Depends on what I have been doing, how much I sweat, and if the bra has started to smell. I usually wear one bra 2 to 4 times before washing, but would not judge anyone for wearing one longer. If you can wear one 10 times without needing to change it, then that's fine.

Saying changing it every 3 days is 'minging' is ludicrous, (and offensive and rude!) as it depends on the person, what activities they have been doing, and how 'sweaty' they have got.

Changing it after every single time you wear it is OTT in my opinion.......

I do change my underpants every day though.....

Strugglingtodomybest · 24/03/2018 15:10

I wear mine until they either smell or look dirty, so I wear them for over a week or average. I wash every day so they don't really get dirty.

flippyfloppyflower · 24/03/2018 15:11

I wear a fresh one every day, just as I do for pants and tights/socks - but each to their own.

SundayGirls · 24/03/2018 15:11

I worked with a woman who didn’t change her bra very often. It’s a distinctive stale sweat smell. I know the smell because as a teenager I wasn’t that good at changing/washing bras and one day I was putting it on (probably the fourth wear in summer) and I could smell it as I was putting it on. Sometimes bras don’t smell sweaty until they have been warmed up by body heat, so I play it safe and change every two days only in cold weather (and with 2 quick showers a day) and daily in summer no matter what. Daily in winter if I’ve been doing something vigorous like gardening for hours. On really hot days it will smell sweaty at the end of the day despite being fresh on that morning, after a shower and with talc/deodorant applied and I’m not even that sweaty a person...

FinallyARainbow · 24/03/2018 15:12

Fresh one every day. I only wear matching sets so they get washed along with the pants.

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 24/03/2018 15:12

I have a small back but G cup and second asda

But Asda don't sell bras for small backs in anything bigger than a c cup; the smallest size they do even a d cup is 34, so if, for example, the OP's daughter is a size 8 she probably measures something like 28 back size.

Elendon · 24/03/2018 15:13

Your daughter is 13. She's going through puberty. Her upper chest hasn't stopped growing yet. She will probably be her own size at around 18. It will settle during her 20s and then probably increase in her 30s and most definitely in her 40s.

NutElla5x · 24/03/2018 15:15

I change mine every couple of days, maybe daily in the summer months but I'm not much of a sweater in general so don't think it's that minging to wear one twice in a row.

OriginalGeordie · 24/03/2018 15:16

Somebody has already mentioned up thread but my biggest issue is that her bra size will more than likely change, so I think 7 is plenty for now. I have showed her numerous times how to put them in the wash bag and told her to give me a shout and I’ll put them in the machine but no, too much like hard work! She is very clean with her appearance but she’ll only sort her washing once a week and that’s after much shouting and pleading on my part!

TroubledLichen · 24/03/2018 15:17

Fresh one every day, it’s right on your skin and pretty much in your armpit so I agree with your daughter, it’s disgusting not to. However, if she already has 6 then surely with a mid-week wash she can ensure a clean one every day?

bluescreen · 24/03/2018 15:20

Particularly if she has an F cup she needs a clean one daily as the risk of under-breast candida is much higher.

Given that most bras are made of artificial fibres (why is that? ) I change mine every day.

user380968 · 24/03/2018 15:23

For people who wear a clean bra everyday; do you hand wash it or put it in the washing mschine? I feel the washing machine damages it; my bras are not cheap. I recently renovated them all as I noticed my size changed.

strawberrypenguin · 24/03/2018 15:25

Every 3-4 days. Probably a bit more frequently in summer if they need it.

vampirina · 24/03/2018 15:26

I'm with you on this one OP.

BalloonFlowers · 24/03/2018 15:26

I live somewhere hot. I have a clean bra every day, and usually get through a couple of sports bras a week to. But i don't own 9+ of them, just wash more than once a week.

MerryShitmas · 24/03/2018 15:28

I was by hand sometimes, but if I'm in work a lot (varying hours) I'll do a machine load instead because the last thing I want to do after a 12 hour day is faff about handwashing.
I wear a fresh bra daily, but didn't when I lived in the uk (live in a humid + hot climate now) the important thing here is personal choice.
She can change daily or weekly if that's what she wants. but she can do it herself. Do not buy her any more. 6/7 is ample for most people she just needs to do say, 2 washes a week. You could also teach her how to do them by hand in the sink (lots of easy guides online if you don't know) if it would help her do it properly and not expect you to sort it. Knowing teenagers I suspect it won't work but you can try!

fishonabicycle · 24/03/2018 15:30

I wear mine for a few days. But I don't get sweaty tits! If I did get really sweaty (I would change it more often. I only have 3 bras and I don't like two of them!

Idontdowindows · 24/03/2018 15:30

2 or 3 a week, with airing between uses.

DailyWailEatsSnails · 24/03/2018 15:31

Bras last much longer if hand-washed. This is quick job & they dry quickly, too.

Teenagers are stupid about laundry. Teen DS, his laundry generation is probably 20% of what it used to be before he moved out. Once he had to do his own, perceptions changed.

I have needed same bra size for 35 yrs, size not changed bar pregnancy/postnatal periods. I have one bra for sport I handwash about once a fortnight and another bra for day wear that gets washed rather less often. I'm happy with that. If anyone can smell my bra then they are too close for comfort!

Cambionome · 24/03/2018 15:32

It really isn't a good idea to put bras in the washing machine.

Thanks to people who have recommended Soak washing liquid. Which fragrance do you recommend?

gamerchick · 24/03/2018 15:32

! Can't she hand wash her bras every couple of days if she wants a clean one every day?

You’re supposed to hand wash them anyway if I remember right.

starkid · 24/03/2018 15:36

I have quite a few but seem to rotate 2 blacks and 2 nudes, changing between them, maybe airing in-between... wear maybe 4 times before washing, unless been sweating?
Meh. People can be very uptight about how often they wash this that or the other though, I've found!
