To ask how many bras you wear in a week?

Please help settle an argument? My 13 yr old has just asked me for more bras, she has 6 (plus a sports bra) so 7, and likes to change them and wash them after each wear. I think this is utterly ridiculous, I change mine every 2/3 days, she thinks i’m minging.

To complicate it she’s a small back but already in an F cup so it’s quite difficult and expensive to get a bra for her. So just wondering what everyone else does?

My bras go lower than my armpits, so they don't smell after one use, unlike most tops.

It's better to let them get some air between uses, though. Like for shoes.

Mari50 · 26/03/2018 08:52

I have quite a lot of bras- maybe 20/30- I don't wash after every wear, probably every other. I’ve never had to wash a bra because it was smelly or stained.
And the need for bra washing frequency is nothing like pant washing or sock washing for the majority of women. But MN does usually have the extremes which will include women who changes daily and hand wash in a Himalayan mountain stream and those who wear their bras until they can walk themselves to the washing machine. Everyone is different and if your daughter wants to change her bra daily then I’d let her but also let her do her laundry.

Suadow · 26/03/2018 09:25

Ha ha ha.... you’re quite right “ Himalayan mountain water “ ....

clarehhh · 26/03/2018 09:42

Agree daily for teenager especially as they sweat more and in long run will last less well with stale sweat left on them.

Gottagetmoving · 26/03/2018 10:24

I grew up in a time where you got one bra when you became developed enough to need one and you either handwashed it daily or just wore it for a week.
Now I have three bras and wear one for 3 days usually.(or longer)
It's not minging. They don't smell and I've suffered no ill effects. I change pants every day.
I think people are just too precious these days if they feel the need to be horrified at people not changing their bra every day.
I won't even go into how long I wear my jeans Grin

stillfeel18inside · 26/03/2018 10:31

How can people compare changing your bra with changing your pants and socks/tights?? Think where they go! Your boobs don’t sweat/ secrete discharges/ get smelly do they? Well mine don’t!

Strugglingtodomybest · 26/03/2018 11:19

lljkk

I don't care who on MN thinks I'm minging. HTH.

I'm HTH (happy to hear) that. I'm just worried that some women might worry that there is a 'rule' as to how often you should change your bra, when in fact, it all depends on the individual.

ohh · 26/03/2018 13:07

I have weird shaped boobs (thanks children!) and I have only really found a very expensive bra range that fits a dream and makes me look normal. For info I am usually a 32 E. £63 each.

So I have 1 black 2 nude 1 purple and 1 blue. I rotate and wash after approx 2 or 3 wears. I do not sweat where my bra sits thankfully.

Must handwash or silks in washing machine. All bought for my birthday or Christmas (1 at a time mind!.) These bras I can take my tops off and feel confident, look sexy.

Purplelife · 26/03/2018 13:34

According to Good Housekeeping it’s perfectly okay to be “ minging” ;)

www.goodhousekeeping.com/home/cleaning/tips/a32516/how-often-to-wash-bra/

Cleaning it after every wear
Back away from the detergent. Washing your bra too often can do more harm than good. "Over-washing can damage the elasticity, which is essential for providing the proper support," says Lexie Sachs, product analyst in the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab. Unless you're really sweaty, wait three or four wears before washing. "Every few wears should be sufficient, but it does depend on your activity level," says Sachs.

I too wear mine for longer than a week – I only have a couple as for the past 2 years I have increased by a cup size (if not two) every six months or so and as I am a more irregular size, I need to go to specialist bra fitters which cost in excess of £50/£60 per one. I cannot afford to stock up on a new bra for each day only to have to bin them all in a couple of months time. I am a stickler for cleanliness and shower twice daily a lot of the time – I know what BO is and I have never had it and to be honest, no matter how long I’ve ever gone without washing a bra, it has never smelled – it has also never caused me spots or anything else for that matter.

FrogsAreMean · 26/03/2018 16:38

I change my bra ON the hour EVERY hour. Anyone who doesn't is just MINGING Wink Grin

Nottheduchessofcambridge · 26/03/2018 17:23

Well I wear a brand new one everyday and throw the old one in the bin, urgh, just thinking about wearing a bra more than one time even if it’s washed makes my teeth itch Grin

liz70 · 26/03/2018 21:58

One changes ones brassiere every minute, whether one needs to or not.

cheval · 26/03/2018 22:05

Red-letter day here when I hand-wash mine. The boned ones. Sports bras go into machine. Also hate wearing a bra.

Obi1Kenobi · 26/03/2018 22:08

Alternate so every day I wear a fresh one I will wear one used from a day or two before after airing. Never machine wash them always hand wash and drip dry. I thought this was the norm! Clearly not 😂. I know machine washing destroys bras faster than hand washing hence I don’t do it. I spend a lot of money on bras. For comfort. Bras don’t last long. Replace every 12-18 months without fail.

Whitecurrants · 26/03/2018 22:09

Lots of cheapish M&S bras and I wouldn't wear one for more than a day without washing it. My mum used to wear hers for days on end and it was minging.

Petalflowers · 26/03/2018 22:10

Not the duchess -you wear a bra once, and then throw it away?! So you have a new bra everyday? How much does that cost?

Lweji · 26/03/2018 22:12

How much does that cost?

Irrelevant. She's worth it. Wink

Who wears it once and throws it away? That’s bonkers!

Lweji · 26/03/2018 22:29

The same sort of person who changes hers every hour or every minute.

Bojangles33 · 26/03/2018 22:37

Clearly I need to move myself to Netmums, I wear mine until they look grubby...

missjaysays · 26/03/2018 22:40

I wear the same bra all week, usually different ones over the weekend due to different outfits etc.

ilovesouthlondon · 27/03/2018 06:19

I change mine after I shower every day, your daughter is right and she is setting a good example to you.

Appuskidu · 27/03/2018 07:16
