To ask how many bras you wear in a week?

OriginalGeordie · 24/03/2018 14:05

Please help settle an argument? My 13 yr old has just asked me for more bras, she has 6 (plus a sports bra) so 7, and likes to change them and wash them after each wear. I think this is utterly ridiculous, I change mine every 2/3 days, she thinks i’m minging.

To complicate it she’s a small back but already in an F cup so it’s quite difficult and expensive to get a bra for her. So just wondering what everyone else does?

I think 6 Plus a sports bra is plenty. At that back/cup size it’s important they fit correctly and prob cost £30 each.
I have lots in my wardrobe but only two actually fit at the moment as I’m pregnant, boobs currently 34K and I simply can’t just pick one off the shelf in that size and expect it to be comfy. I have two the same and I wear each one 3-4 days in a row.... I’m dreading what happens when babe arrives and they get even bigger.... 34 L/M nursing bras don’t exist!

liz70 · 24/03/2018 14:29

Fresh bra every day, just like pants and tights. Underwear gets changed every day.

clarrylove · 24/03/2018 14:29

Every 3 or 4 days probably. My breasts don't get sweaty!

Kalinka16 · 24/03/2018 14:29

1 every day, and I hand wash them too...

HeedMove · 24/03/2018 14:29

It a hardly minding wearing it a couple of times. I'm not particularly sweaty and certainly not round my boobs..my band of my bras nowhere near my armpit either. I worked in lingerie in debs it's not good to wash your bra especially an expensive one after every use. It's hardly the same as changing your pants.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/03/2018 14:30

Mine everyday + sports bra for gym (3 x week)

I have maybe 15 bras, nude for work and dark for other.
They go in a net padded lingerie bag to wash then hang up.

DD changes her daily too.
We both wear Primark, if she wanted Victoria Secret Pink (££) I might be less accomodating.

TheScottishPlay · 24/03/2018 14:30

Fresh every day.
Love the if she wants one, get a job and pay for it herself posts. She's 13.

poobumwee · 24/03/2018 14:31

fresh one every day

MushroomSoup · 24/03/2018 14:32

Does anyone use the bra wash liquid, Soak?
It seems expensive but is brilliant and lasts months. You literally put a teaspoon in a bowl of warm water and soak bras for about 30 mins, squeeze and hang to dry. No rinsing.

This means I can wash a bra out and have it ready for the next morning if I need to.
Much cheaper than buying new bras and my bras are definitely lasting longer now they’re not going in the washing machine.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 24/03/2018 14:33

A clean one each day and a clean sports bra every time I run or go to the gym. I do sweat a lot, though, so couldn't reuse them even if I wanted to; there's none of that 'glow' nonsense here, it's unladylike sweat.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 24/03/2018 14:34

At 13, she is most probably still growing so it would be expenseive to provide 7 bras in a size that might not fit soon.
4 or 5 is plenty and she can hand wash them each evening

windchimesabotage · 24/03/2018 14:35

1 a week! does that make me disgusting? Tbf im an A cup so I dont really sweat under my boobs or anything. If id been running or it had been really hot I would change my bra so I guess in mid summer I do change it more often. But at the moment its once a week.

I think when I was 13 I had absolutely loads of fancy bras though because the novelty had not worn off yet and I enjoyed putting a new one on each day to match my outfit.

screamingeels · 24/03/2018 14:36

I avoid washing mine as much as possible. They are expensive, i want to prolong their life and generally cut back on washing for environmental reasons.
Sports bras do get sweaty so I handwash after every wear, but normal underwire don't and I'll happily go a week.

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/03/2018 14:36

Clean everyday, as does 16yr old Dd

YearOfYouRemember · 24/03/2018 14:37

Clean bra every day for DD and me so we each wear seven. I am about to buy her her third set since January. Kids grow, it's what you have to do. Making her wear them more than once to save money is horrible. Bras from marks are not that expensive Hmm. There's bra in the sale for £8. I put in 30F.

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 24/03/2018 14:40

I generally wear a bra for 2 days, apart for sports bras of course. I pay a lot for bras so only hand wash them, I usually wash 2 at a time. I must look for this Soak, I use woolite as it's quite hard to get any hand wash liquid.

JanettheNotebookJunkie · 24/03/2018 14:40

I hate women calling each other minging. Really no need to wash a bra after every wash - they don't usually get that sweaty or dirty.

diddl · 24/03/2018 14:40

I often wear one for two days atm, but one a day in the better weather.

If she wants a clean one a day I would facilitate that tbh-how is wanting clean underwear everyday "ridiculous"?

But maybe instead of another bra-as others have suggested- she washes a couple out in an evening?

Judydreamsofhorses · 24/03/2018 14:41

Clean bra every day, and a second one if going out in the evening. To me they’re like pants, which I couldn’t imagine wearing twice.

Jolonglegs · 24/03/2018 14:41

I wear a clean bra each day for work, and a clean sports bra when I run. I change my knicks morning and evening. I have about 15 bras mainly black, white and nude. DP thinks I'm a bit of a nerd with cleanliness as he wears his boxers for two days.

alwaysthepessimist · 24/03/2018 14:41

Every other day unless I do something that makes me sweat - I am in an air conned office all day so actually tend to be freezing most of the time and I take it off as soon as I get in, if I have been out walking all day or something it goes straight in the wash

funnelfanjo · 24/03/2018 14:41

In the winter, one lasts a week. In the summer, it gets changed every 3-4 days, depending on exactly how hot and sweaty it gets.

I suspect people who think it's minging to wear them more than once are also people who wash every item of clothing after it has been warn. Pants, socks and tights, yes. Everything else - depends on if its got marked or if it fails the sniff test. Life is too short to be filling it with laundry and ironing.

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 24/03/2018 14:42

At that cup size, she probably gets a bit sweaty and feels uncomfortable and/ or possibly embarrassed.

I wear sports bras all the time now (sick of long years of underwiring!) and change them every 2-3 days, or more often if I've exercised. I put them on the towel rail every night to air them too.

Branleuse · 24/03/2018 14:42

@PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks

I think you need a bra intervention.

Namelesswonder · 24/03/2018 14:43

My bras are around £40 each as I’m a hard to find size (can’t get my size in high street shops) so only have 3. Bra shop advises not to wash after every wear as it’s not good for them, they recommend at least 3 wears between washes. And never machine wash.

I use Soak, from Amazon for hand washing them. It’s great.
