To ask how many bras you wear in a week?

Please help settle an argument? My 13 yr old has just asked me for more bras, she has 6 (plus a sports bra) so 7, and likes to change them and wash them after each wear. I think this is utterly ridiculous, I change mine every 2/3 days, she thinks i’m minging.

To complicate it she’s a small back but already in an F cup so it’s quite difficult and expensive to get a bra for her. So just wondering what everyone else does?

"Bravissimo and the department store i used to get my bras from told me handwash and drip dry. I follow their advice on this not posters on an internet forum."

Yes, well, fine if you have three days to wait. I don't need to put mine on the radiator because I don't change it every day and have enough anyway, but if someone really needs to wash from one day to the next, they can use a radiator.
Real life doesn't always comply with the label on the garment.

Shockers · 25/03/2018 19:48

DD changes hers daily because she’s a sweaty teen. I change mine every other day, but I do take it off when I get changed on getting home from work. If I’d felt sweaty, or grubby during the day, I’d stick it in the wash.

I don’t think it’s the same as knickers at all. Knickers are worn in a different area...

caffeinequick · 25/03/2018 19:52

3days here unless it's hot in which case every day. 7 bras is plenty!

Bexterfish · 25/03/2018 20:01

I own 3. I wear 1-2 a week. Plus a sport bra for the gym

HelenaDove · 25/03/2018 20:07

I currently own 4 Gwen................an old one which is waiting to be thrown out because the wire has come out.

a black one .........never been worn so new really.

and two brand new from Bravissimo which i bought ten days ago.

Any woman of a small back/large cup size who is on JSA or UC will not be able to afford these prices.

Bra banks?

YearOfYouRemember · 25/03/2018 20:09

HelenaDove - did you really call me stupid on page three for saying about bras drying in a couple of days?

myusernameisnotmyusername · 25/03/2018 20:10

I change mine every two days as I’m not a sweaty person unless I’ve been doing something strenuous or it’s a hot day. It’s funny though if I’ve got a vest on because I’m wearing a sweater I never wear that twice. I’ve got 4 t shirt bras in different colours.

xotyl · 25/03/2018 20:25

Have quite a physical job, so wear one to work in the morning, come home shower put another on if I am working in the evening I will change before going. I run several time in the week so wear a sports bra for that. It's not unusual for me to go through 3 or 4 bras a day. I have no idea how many I have.

Has never occurred to me that they are anything other than underwear like pants, sock or vest, so clean on every time. However I do know that some people barely sweat so maybe they feel comfortable wearing more than once. Can't imagine wearing one all week.

Teacher22 · 25/03/2018 20:41

When I was thirteen my mother bought me one bra. I had to wash it at night and put it on the airing cupboard tank to have it clean in the morning. I also had insufficient pants and never had enough ‘time of the month’ equipment. It has scarred me.

New clean everything from bottom to top every day.

AngelL7 · 25/03/2018 20:45

I’m an F cup and I highly recommend Asda 👌🏻🙌🏻 Amazing quality

OlennasWimple · 25/03/2018 20:59

The OP's DD needs to be more involved in washing her clothes, but it's not necessary to have 7+ bras, but it's really not pleasant to force her to wear clothes for longer than she feels comfortable

Girlsworld92 · 25/03/2018 21:00

Note to self. Purchase more bras 😀. I’m terrible I wear mine far too long before washing. I can’t afford one for each day as I need ones that cost about £40 to stop them
hanging by my knees and give them some decent shape.

flowerslemonade · 25/03/2018 21:15

I think the issue is she feels unclean rather than the frequency, it's horrible to feel like that so best to find a solution. Maybe she hasn't realised she can handwash them.

Re pants:

"I find those who wear only 1 pair of pants a day minging. I put a clean pair on in the morning and then a 2nd clean pair after my evening shower which I then remove as I get into bed"

What about people who shower in the morning?
Or people who don't put pants on after their evening shower (ie get into PJs?)

I feel its a bit harsh - and incorrect - to start calling people minging who are changing their undies daily... I put a fresh pair on each morning... but I wouldn't put a pair on after a shower... for the sake of an hour (and why, with PJs!?). Just seems odd.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 25/03/2018 21:17

I’m with you. I don’t change mine every day. I wash every week or so and rotate through about three but I might wear the same one on consecutive days.

Drainedandconfused · 25/03/2018 21:39

I wish I needed a bra, I'm an AA! I wear teenage crop tops and normally change them daily, if it's a black or dark coloured one it does 2 days.
Unless you get sweaty or wear fake tan I don't think there's a need to wear a clean bra everyday.

bananasandwicheseveryday · 25/03/2018 21:53

Clean one every day. I have a range of colours, from white, nude, through pinks, blues, to purples and blacks. Enough for a clean one every day and some spares in case I want to wear the same colour two days in a row.
Your problem though, isn't about how often your daughter changes her bra, it's that she won't get them clean, either herself or by asking you. Definitely would not be buying her more when she has enough if only she'd put them in the wash.

Prussiablue · 25/03/2018 22:02

Mine seem to be getting bigger by the day!!! I'm a 30F and bras are so expensive when your boobs are big and your back is small Shock

bananafish81 · 25/03/2018 22:57

but I wouldn't put a pair on after a shower... for the sake of an hour (and why, with PJs!?). Just seems odd.

I wear knickers under PJs - and on a previous thread about bedtime knickers I found out I definitely wasn't the only one!

Clean knickers every night, under PJ bottoms which get changed every 2-3 days. Clean long sleeved top to wear with PJ bottoms every night

So I'm 2 pairs of clean pants a day, but only because I'm wearing them at night. If you don't wear knickers to bed then 2 pairs a day seems a little unusual!

Pugwash2005 · 25/03/2018 23:12

I change mine after 1-2 wears depending how warm the weather is my teen changes hers every day as she is quite sweaty. I’m a ff cup & but from m&s & bravissimo but also have a few cheaper bras from Asda which are comfy enough for everyday wear.

Leontine · 26/03/2018 00:39

I wear a new one every day, but I have very big boobs and sweat a lot.

Dhalandchips · 26/03/2018 03:01

Another minger here, change every few days, but I don'tthink they're stinky. And I don't sweat much for a fat mass!

Dhalandchips · 26/03/2018 03:02

Fat lass! Not mass!

TheDogAndDogAtCrutchley · 26/03/2018 03:32

7 a day. At least.

Strugglingtodomybest · 26/03/2018 08:21

To the posters calling people minging. You do realise that you're just making fools of yourselves don't you?
Most grown ups, I hope, recognise that everyone is different. And one of the ways we're different is in the amount we sweat. So you're calling people minging for not needing to change their bras as often as you, when you presumeably need to change your bra more often because you're more sweaty. If I was as immature as you, I might accuse you of being the actual minger for sweating so much, might I? But I won't because there's just no need for name calling. Grow up.

lljkk · 26/03/2018 08:35

I don't care who on MN thinks I'm minging. HTH.
