To ask how many bras you wear in a week?

Please help settle an argument? My 13 yr old has just asked me for more bras, she has 6 (plus a sports bra) so 7, and likes to change them and wash them after each wear. I think this is utterly ridiculous, I change mine every 2/3 days, she thinks i’m minging.

To complicate it she’s a small back but already in an F cup so it’s quite difficult and expensive to get a bra for her. So just wondering what everyone else does?

"I am not choosing to specifically “come online to slag her off”"

No-but you put that you think it's "ridiculous" that she wants to change her bra every day.

Why would you think that?

Just because you don't do it it doesn't make it "ridiculous" that she wants to.

MaMisled · 25/03/2018 10:50

I have 5 bras and wear each for approx. 3 days. Mind you, they go on at about 9am and are off by 5pm.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 25/03/2018 10:55

Thanks rizlett

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 25/03/2018 10:58

Apparently, if you're a 40 back, you can't be smaller than a C cup according to eBay. Confused

funmummy48 · 25/03/2018 10:59

I wear my bras for 3-4 days. It's fine. They smell fresh and I shower daily so it's definitely not minting. However, if you want to change yours daily, I'm absolutely fine about it. ☺

newmumwithquestions · 25/03/2018 11:02

Daily change here.

Maybe those of us who are larger need to change them more often? More than one day feels very dirty.

newmumwithquestions · 25/03/2018 11:04

I’m curious - those who wear theirs for days on end, do you wear a new top everyday? I feel it’s the same thing.

LadyTesticlee · 25/03/2018 11:04

why can't you wash bras more regularly? do you keep laundry sitting there all stinky for a week? i put a wash on everyday. dont need 7 bras at at least 25 quids each i can't afford 7+
I have 3 and wear each one 2 days. I shower daily dont sweat much and live in a cold climate. I change my knickers daily or twice a day if needed.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 25/03/2018 11:07

Exactly Lady. I only need 2 bras because it's wear 1, wash 1. Confused

PoshPenny · 25/03/2018 11:08

I put on a clean one every day. I'm a large cup and trying to lose weight, so I make a point of getting hot sweaty and breathless every day now doing some kind of exercise. If your daughter can't be bothered to sort out her dirty washing then she must live with the consequences. I don't like all the "minging" talk on this thread Sad

throwcushions · 25/03/2018 11:10

Blimey. I am totally disgusting.

fruityb · 25/03/2018 11:13

I do a clothes wash 2-3 times a week - I wait till there’s enough for a load. Maybe we’re just gross and wear our clothes more than once but I’ve never been told I smell or don’t see people keeping their distance from me!

Each to their own!

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 25/03/2018 11:19

We don't own enough clothes to do that fruityb.

DietCokeGirrrrrl · 25/03/2018 11:20

Ask me how many I wear in a month...

fruityb · 25/03/2018 11:25

I’ve hardly got clothes bursting out of my wardrobe lol. I have a few different tops but will wear the same trousers or skirt for a day or two. I wouldn’t want a daily wash I wouldn’t have the space to dry it! The only one that gets clean clothes daily is my son who has lots. Otherwise I’ll wear the same stuff a couple of times so long as it’s not dirty.

Mumsnet is a real eye opener sometimes.

HPandBaconSandwiches · 25/03/2018 11:37

If you do end up wanting to get some more, I can heartily recommend Brastop Always have great prices - I just checked and they have 28F bras from£13, all the main brands.

Personally I think she has enough, but it’s a simple thing to sort for her at a time when everything feels like a life changing disaster. Wouldn’t be a teen again for anything!

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 25/03/2018 11:46

We only have 2 of everything, as we can't afford to buy more.

MaisyPops · 25/03/2018 11:52

I wear a bra for 2 days. I don't sweat much.

If she has 6 bras then why does she need another? Surely she can just wash a couple. maybe I'm missing the point here but surely a teenager can wash a bra rather than expect home to buy more to suit

TuftedLadyGrotto · 25/03/2018 12:12

@newmumwithquestions no I wear a top at least twice. Same with dresses. Cardigans and jumpers more. I sniff, and check they don't smell.

Waste of water and energy to wash clothes after every wear. No wonder the planet is in such a state.

Appuskidu · 25/03/2018 12:16

She already has enough to wear a clean one each day whilst the others are washed!

I wouldn’t be forking out for a teenager to own more than 7 expensive bras at any one time-she’ll probably grow and be in a completely different size by the summer!

oneggshellsallthetime · 25/03/2018 12:27

Currently, 3 nice bras worn twice but not 2 days in a row (aired in between). Warm months 1 wear then wash. 1 okay bra as a stand-by/emergency, and 2 old and knackered for gardening/heavy duty housework/decorating - only when no chance of being seen - one use only.

Would like more, normally do, but losing weight and have to due to size /support/ cost am holding back. Shower daily, skin not oily and nor a Sweaty Betty. Hand wash all except for knackered.

OutsideContextProblem · 25/03/2018 12:43

Whilst I am in the “every other day” camp, and I feel your pain about the cost of extra bras in a specialist size for a teen who will have outgrown them in a couple of months, I think you should support her wish to maintain the hygiene standards she feels comfortable with as long as they’re within a normal range. It’s wretched being a teenager who feels that they’re “minging” and being prevented from keeping clean by their parents’ arbitrary rules.

Get her a cheap second sports bra (surely she does PE more than once a week?) and/or shove a midweek delicates wash on with her assistance. Given the fact that she’ll probably grow out of them quickly, it’s not essential to hand wash them in angels’ tears to preserve their life.

Gwenhwyfar · 25/03/2018 12:53

"so why not wash each evening and they'll be dry for the day after."

Because life is too short!

cloudyweewee · 25/03/2018 13:11

I have 4 bras and probably wear one for 4- 5 days but in Summer I change it every day.

KittenBeast · 25/03/2018 13:27

newmum no tops are changed daily, your pits touch them. Plus they're on the outside, so prone to stains and general muck.
