I have never understood what anyone liked about them and they were on absolutely everything for so long!

Looking forward to fresh faces and no longer seeing theirs!

"talentless" enough to have been around for well over 30 years and still extremely popular.

Doh! That should have said well over 20 years. Don't think they've been for well over for 30 years, putting years on them there, whoops Grin

CadyHeron · 24/03/2018 18:07

Wait, what? We can do gifs on here now?! Cool

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 24/03/2018 19:16

cady the first episode of Byker aired 29 years ago this year, so not well over 30 years, but nearly 30 years

MinnieMinchkin · 24/03/2018 20:38

I can't stand the types of shows those two present, so I don't watch them. No need to be nasty or judgemental about them as people, though, and I hope that things improve for them.

quickname · 24/03/2018 22:08

much prefer the voice on earlier. Not missing the Ant n Dec vehicle at all!

  1. You didn’t have to watch
There isn’t a 2.

Gloating over someone’s tragedy because you can’t locate your —life—remote is a bit low.

mercurymaze · 24/03/2018 22:18

i guess it's easy to say well just switch over but ITV does still have a hold on the british psyche.

i just wish we could get back to just good entertainment but i think those days have gone

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 24/03/2018 22:18

Still not found the remote then quickname is your tv stuck on itv.

Stop gloating it doesn't make you come over very well

TSSDNCOP · 24/03/2018 22:20

Mercury DM always said that ITV was common and we were never allowed to watch it.

DM is glued most nights to Emmerdale and Coronation Street.

mercurymaze · 24/03/2018 22:20

i was listening to radio programme about larry grayson and he really did get it right. we just don't seem to have learnt anything from these entertainers. the golden age of tv seemed to have peaked for such a short time...we need to get back to that age where tv was entertaining but didn't treat viewers as stupid. ant 'n' dec weren't never seemed to have anything in the first place imo

mercurymaze · 24/03/2018 22:23

i know most of mn said itv was common but my dad worked for independent tv since the 50 and it was most definitely not common then! just had to subsidise with advertising.

even the golden age of advertising was great, ridley scott of aliens fame started out in advertising. we just seem to have a crap view of creative industries in the UK now when it was once absolutely brilliant

surferjet · 24/03/2018 22:25

Be careful what you wish for op. Ant & Dec could be replaced by Mel & Sue.

mercurymaze · 24/03/2018 22:26

i do think the art of tv seems to have been very lost

TSSDNCOP · 24/03/2018 22:30

Mercury I completely disagree. Of almost all the recent entertainers I think Ant and Dec “got” that there but by the grace of god and sheer hard graft tenet, just like Bruce, Les, Larry, Bob et al. Ant has terrible problems, let’s wish them well like we should.

mercurymaze · 24/03/2018 22:33

well we shall have to agree to disagree! they have never appealed to me but i can see how they appeal to some.

TSSDNCOP · 24/03/2018 22:35

But that’s the point really, I can’t stand John Cleese and Ricky Gervais. Others will throw them a parade. If we all liked the same it’d be a one channel life.

CadyHeron · 24/03/2018 22:39

Were Ant & Dec ever on Big Brother? I used to watch that religiously - until it changed channels. I never watched the celeb version

Don't think they've ever been on BB. In fact, pretty sure they haven't.

mercurymaze · 24/03/2018 22:39

well of course but i do think there needs to be a certain level of intelligence that broadcaster accepts the viewer has

MozzchopsThirty · 24/03/2018 22:44

They really were (and are) lovely people.

How can 30 years on tv be classed as 'talentless' ???????
Now the MIC or TOWIE lot are talentless

We really missed is tonight. With an 8 & 13 year old it's the one programme we can all sit together and enjoy as a family. We laugh and cringe and I sing a long live Grin

I wish Ant a good recovery.

I hope they come back after some time off.

And please god don't let holly fucking willoughby and that awful twat schofield step in

CadyHeron · 24/03/2018 22:46

If we all liked the same it’d be a one channel life.

Very true. Life would be boring if we were all the same. Smile
I love them, and would no doubt find totally boring the stuff others like instead.

CadyHeron · 24/03/2018 22:49

Same, it's the one show I want to sit down with the kids and watch - it's Saturday night ritual!
Popcorn, drinks, and a laugh.
Love Sing A Long Live but I was a bit pants at the Murder On The DanceFloor Sophie Ellis Bextor one as I fudged some of the words.
I'm more of the know every word to the 80s and 90s cheese Grin

CadyHeron · 24/03/2018 22:52

Ah right, knew it was around 30 years but well over 30 sounded wrong even to me! Grin
They're around my age, I've grown up watching them. SMTV Live - used to love watching that on a Saturday morning too.
"Wonkey Donkey - "It's gotta RHYME, man!" Grin

derxa · 24/03/2018 23:06

We are wholly unaffected by the experience. Grin Hilarious

CadyHeron · 24/03/2018 23:15

I have no idea about them other than that they seem to be on everything that my kids want to watch and always have been.. but this week I've been puzzled by the hysteria that their reign over Saturday night tv is coming to an end or hiatus.

Erm, there's a reason for that. The kids love watching because they're great family entertainers that make kids laugh, and the parents love watching because they've grown up watching them as kids themselves on morning telly/teatime kids shows.
In short, all ages enjoy them as we've grown up "with" them.

JaneJeffer · 24/03/2018 23:49

And please god don't let holly fucking willoughby and that awful twat schofield step in
Amen to that! I love Ant and Dec.

And what difference does it make to someone who hates them if they're on or not. It's not as if you would have watched anyway is it?
