I have never understood what anyone liked about them and they were on absolutely everything for so long!

Looking forward to fresh faces and no longer seeing theirs!

So many celebrities are just bland and a bit boring, they fit in this category. ITV is a bit crap.

hidinginthenightgarden · 24/03/2018 13:38

I think you are being incredibly cruel. You have never been forced to watch them at all.
As it happens one of them is going through a major crisis and the other has been massively impacted by this to the point where it is likely to end or seriously damage both careers.
How would you feel if someone said similar about you and role at work?

pinkdelight · 24/03/2018 13:38

Can't Dick n Dom take over? Or Sam and whatsisname, the Pop Idol pair? They all seem pretty interchangeable.

kimanda · 24/03/2018 13:39

YABU. Ant and Dec are awesome. (drinking and driving aside.) Sad

If Ant keeps his head down for a year, he will come back from this.

They both needed a year off to be honest.

And as much as I love them, it will be nice to have them away for a year. You can have too much of a good thing.

@rudgie47 they are not 'talentless' at all. No-one maintains a hugely successful career in showbiz for a quarter century, if they are 'talentless.'

They will be back. The Ant and Dec brand is tarnished, but they are not finished. They're too popular and talented and well-loved to disappear. Other (less talented, and well-liked) celebs have done worse, and it hasn't finished them off.

Keep dreaming haters, but Ant and Dec are not finished! Grin

CadyHeron · 24/03/2018 13:40

But they would have been no longer on your screen for years if you had just changed the channel.

Exactly. Are people not aware that there's an excellent invention called the remote control that switches the telly off or (shock!) can actually switch it off altogether?!
It's a very clever little thing.
YABU, lots of people do still love them and their family entertainment style, there's not a lot of it around.
(There's already a thigh rubbing, salivating, boot kicking thread on here somewhere)
Niiiice people about lately. Hmm

abilockhart · 24/03/2018 13:41

RedForFilth · 24/03/2018 13:41

Why wouldn't you just turn the t.v. over? I don't understand why some people are so gleeful about this.

CadyHeron · 24/03/2018 13:41

I think you are being incredibly cruel. You have never been forced to watch them at all.

Exactly. There's plenty of other programmes and styles to watch out there. Nobody's forcing you to watch. Confused

Fairylea · 24/03/2018 13:43

I can’t see how Ant can come back from this to be honest. Part of their charm is that they are squeaky clean family fun. You can sit down a watch them on tv with your kids and know that it isn’t going to be sweary, or full of sexual innuendo or offensive. It may be a little tame or lame for some people but generally that’s their appeal- just family fun. Someone who has injured a 3 year old through choosing to drink drive is never going to be thought of that way again. I think it’s finished him to be honest.

As I said I do feel sorry for Dec. They were very much a package. I’m not sure how successful he will be on his own. But we will see.

I have always had a soft spot for them ever since they were Pj and Duncan on children’s tv.

CadyHeron · 24/03/2018 13:45

Completely agree. They are brilliant at what they do. Family entertainment that everyone can sit down and watch together regardless of age.
Saturday Night Takeaway especially brilliant as it's reminiscent of the old style Saturday night shows.
We all sit as a family and watch it, get snacks in and even the small ones can enjoy.
Clean, family entertainment and you really don't see enough of it lately. It's all vacuous, sexualised reality shite telly usually.

Chocolatepeanuts · 24/03/2018 13:45

Im not getting the sympathy for Ant he was incredibly foolish and reckless to do what he did. But as a pair i love them and hope theyll be back. Apart from this as far as im aware there has never beem a scandal about them, and ive heard that they are genuinely really lovely guys irl.

Yvest · 24/03/2018 13:47

I feel sorry for poor old Dec, he has done absolutely nothing wrong and his career has been pulled from under his feet. Actually I think the Tv Companies need to take some of the blame. I think they forced Ant back to work before he was ready and this was the fall out. Dec has been forced into a corner to present the last 2 Takeaways without Ant, there’s too much money riding on the advertising etc to pull the shows. On the other hand he has a real opportunity to show that he can deliver solo and I wish him the best of luck. It’s all a bit crap for him

CurlsandCurves · 24/03/2018 13:47

ITV will be filming the fly on the wall documentary of Ants recovery and Decs worry as we speak. It’ll be on our screens within a year, heralding their big comeback to prime time tv.

Fuffalo · 24/03/2018 13:48

I'm not a massive fan of Ant n Dec but I fear their demise (if it happens) will just open the door to more Philip and Holly. They are the true demons in our midst.

himalayansalt · 24/03/2018 13:48

I've never watched a single show that they have ever done so won't miss them. But I agree with pps - the same old same old faces on tv and radio is just tedious. And I'm pretty grossed out that they've managed to acquire £60m each from a 20 year career. It's not like they've cured cancer or anything. Some of that money could have gone to other, dare I say, younger presenters in that time - you know, share the wealth out a bit.

CadyHeron · 24/03/2018 13:49

Oh,THAT'S why there's another thread - the other one's nearly full by the look so this was probably opened to carry on the bitching.
Will never understand how others can take such glee in others downfalls and stick the boot in more.
Lovely mindset.Hmm
Other thread was even ripping apart appearances and his wife too. What the hell she's got to do with it is anyone's guess. Sad
Just shows what utter vileness is out there.

gingercat02 · 24/03/2018 13:53

Takeaway is off tonight but Dec is going to be doing the last 2 on his own. I think he'll just carry on and keeps Ants place open for him

kaitlinktm · 24/03/2018 13:54

I have never watched one of their programmes. Nothing personal, I just don't enjoy the sorts of shows they do. I feel sorry for them - especially Dec - but celebrities seem to bounce back from this sort of thing (unlike most people in ordinary jobs) so I am sure in a little while I will be back to grabbing the remote when I see them appear on the screen.

kimanda · 24/03/2018 13:54

I get your points @fairylea but I think they are too famous, popular, and talented to die off forever.

And whilst Ant has behaved like a pillock, nobody has died (thankfully,) and he isn't a monster! He made a big error of judgement, and has made a stupid mistake (for which he is paying now!) but he isn't a monster.

He will be OK. They both will. Him AND Dec. One stupid mistake (where nobody was badly hurt or killed,) should not finish off a talented, hardworking, and well loved celebrity, no matter how much the bitchy haters want that to happen.

Fuffalo · 24/03/2018 13:59

They'll definitely be back. There is a lot of goodwill for them as a duo and people have come back from far worse scandals than this. As long as he's seen to commit to rehab, and be truly repentant, possibly become involved in charity work for addicts, I can't see this being the end of his career.

Nightshiftmad · 24/03/2018 14:02

I have to watched them for years. I hope it will give ITV a chance to be creative and come up with a new idea but they seem to just recycle the same shows every year.

WowLookAtYou · 24/03/2018 14:03

What an unpleasant thread. Who rattled your cage today, OP? Or are you always like this?
So, you don't like him/them. Fine. Why on earth does that mean you're moved to express such pleasure in their current predicament?

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 24/03/2018 14:04

I'm not being unreasonable here but what makes it not his fault when he blew over the limit, have I missed something during the past few days. ?

Yes you've entirely missed the fact it was ANT not DEC that drive drunk. So im pretty sure its not decs fault that ANT jumped in to a xar over the limit.

But to answer your question are you unreasonable to be delighted their not on our screens heres a list of things thats not been on my screen for years

X factor, the voice; saturday night take away, ive never ever watched an episode of bgt, towie, made in chelsea, etc.

So ant and dec have been off my screen for years

ALittleAubergine · 24/03/2018 14:06

I didn't mind Ant and Dec, they had good chemistry on air and you knew what you got with them. But perhaps now others will get opportunities as well. TV should try out different pairings to find the next Ant and Dec. How about Sandi Toksvig and Jimmy Carr? Although they are everywhere too.

ForalltheSaints · 24/03/2018 14:06

Sympathy for Dec who has done nothing wrong, and most of all for those involved in the car crash.

Irony that the schedule is moved forward and then at 1015pm there is a film with a car chase.

Personally I use the remote control to avoid their shows.
