To think Stephen Mulhern is a serious contender?

Another Ant and Dec thread but I have been saying for ages that I think SM is a great presenter!

I haven’t seen him mentioned as a contender and was surprised to see Phil and Holly or Cat Deely mentioned but not SM.

Am I the only one that thinks he would be really good presenting SNT?

Stephen Mulhern is the most god awful irritating twunt I've ever come across and it would totally put me off the show. I really hope Ant gets himself together and back to his old self.

Rylanmakesmyheartsmile · 21/03/2018 14:14

I think that the only way they could have avoided Dec presenting on his own for these last 2 episodes would have been to bring in someone completely different - someone properly well known and famous enough in their own right so that it wasn't just seen as a hanger-on replacement for Ant. It needed to be someone unique enough to be able to hold their own and I don't think SM would have cut it.

I'm not personally a fan of SM tbh - don't know why - he just seems like a bit of an Ant and Dec wannabe. Maybe it's my age that I remember A&D as PJ and Duncan and they hold affection for me because I feel like we've grown up together in that way that they've been there since I was a teen myself. SM just seems a bit too try-hard or something.

Cat Deely could be a good call except that her history goes back to the days of SMTV and CD:UK which of course included Ant too and I think it would be hard to avoid comparisons. (Also - isn't she working pretty much full time in the US now?)

I think they just need to get these 2 episodes out of the way and then everyone can lay low and regroup for a while before any new big projects are due. I suspect no-one is much looking forward to them now, but ITV are right to continue with them - if only for the people who have been promised trips to FL

He never seems to be in the running - despite seemingly having the perfect background and relationship with Ant and Dec. When Ant first went into rehab, everyone kept saying Holly Willoughby would be a good stand in. I don't get it. Stephen would be ideal. I think he and Dec would bounce off of eachother just as well. God I hope they don't use Scarlet Moffat Hmm

CadyHeron · 21/03/2018 14:19

I think Stephen Mulhern would be a great choice, he's brilliantly funny as the sidekick on Saturday Night Takeaway anyway.

dustarr73 · 21/03/2018 14:20

I think SM would be great.Hes used to working wiht them so it wouldnt be awkward. No to Holly and whatshisface.I cant stand them two.

gamerwidow · 21/03/2018 14:21

SM would be great, he has come from the same Saturday morning kids tv background as Ant and Dec and he knows how to laugh at himself.

gamerwidow · 21/03/2018 14:23

Maybe Stephen and Holly should host and revisit their Ministry of Mayhem glory days?

gillybeanz · 21/03/2018 14:23

I think it's the end of them presenting together now, or at least i hope so.
I'd like to see other presenters given a chance, they've had their day.
They have done very well off the back of a tv programme for kids.
Somebody in control must have liked them.

Theromanempire · 21/03/2018 14:25

I do like Stephen Mulhearn - he is a natural quick-witted presenter therefore good at live TV (can totally see why he isn't everyone's taste though!)

However, I think he is too much of a 'like for like' direct replacement for Ant so would be difficult to avoid comparison. Whereas I think if they did get somebody in, it would need to be someone completely different to Ant so that comparisons would be difficult - so someone older/female/totally left-field (but not Philip Schofield or Holly Willoughby who clearly totally believe the hype about themselves Hmm)

My first instinct was Cat Deeley as I think it would be a nice touch for her to step in although I know she has her own commitments and is pregnant (no idea how far gone though but might not want to travel etc).

Rafflesway · 21/03/2018 14:27

There is something about SM that gives me the creeps!

Not a fan of SNTA anyway but not SM thank you. Can't understand the appeal at all.

squoosh · 21/03/2018 14:27

He looks like a ventriloquist's dummy who's been brought to life and he gives me all the creeps. But I don't watch the show so good luck to him if he gets the gig!

dustarr73 · 21/03/2018 14:29

As long as its not Scarlett.Maybe Tess Daly.

Costacoffeeplease · 21/03/2018 14:29

Mulhern makes my skin crawl

^ this x a million - I can’t see the attraction at all

NancyDonahue · 21/03/2018 14:30

However they do it, I think it'll be quite an awkward show with a huge elephant in the room (they should actually get a big model elephant for the set). I can see the viewing figures being huge.

ILookedintheWater · 21/03/2018 14:30

Get over this series then use Dick and Dom for SNTA and give Dec a Saturday primetime quiz show (something good!) to keep him in the public eye until Ant is back on his feet.

LucilleBluth · 21/03/2018 14:33

I know it matters not a jot but I've always wondered if he's gay. My gaydar does ping when he's on tv.

HarrietKettle · 21/03/2018 14:39

I'll give you some inside gossip, he's not that popular with the darlings of BGT.

Amanda and David

Onlyoldontheoutside · 21/03/2018 14:49

How about Mel and Sue for 'Im a Celebrity...'?

RavenclawRealist · 21/03/2018 14:54

They need to sort Britain's got talent first which I believe is already filming! They have ages for I'm a celeb and I predict they will try and use that for one last re lunch of brand ant and dec personally!

RavenclawRealist · 21/03/2018 14:54

Re Launch Blush

HarrietKettle · 21/03/2018 14:55

BGT is finished filming, no more filming to be done till it goes to lives in May. And Ant and Dec are already in LOADS of it, obviously.

NancyDonahue · 21/03/2018 14:57

Yeah I like Mel & Sue.

I also think Sam & Mark are ready for grown up TV. I chuckle at their Friday Windup show.

I love Ant & Dec but there are other good double acts out there. Maybe it's time to let them have a go.

SubtitlesOn · 21/03/2018 14:59

I think the ITV PR machine and "his team" have been shown to enable ant for too long, protecting him and sympathetic responses to him driving illegally - if he killed someone then what would they don't?

I like SM though, perhaps he doesn't want the job though

I think that the ITV team need to find some new "talent" don't know where from but the whole lot of them are so intertwined and protective of each other

This morning and gmb and loose women and all the Simon cowbell shoes and A&D shows are all the same with probably same agents and same PR machine

FlashTheSloth · 21/03/2018 15:02

@DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops what unsavoury things? Confused PM if you don't want to say on here Smile.

@HarrietKettle Amanda and David frequently go on BGMT and look like they are having a laugh with him, I'm sure their acting isn't that good.

HarrietKettle · 21/03/2018 15:03

Of course it is! David especially is acting all the bloody time.
