To think Stephen Mulhern is a serious contender?

Another Ant and Dec thread but I have been saying for ages that I think SM is a great presenter!

I haven’t seen him mentioned as a contender and was surprised to see Phil and Holly or Cat Deely mentioned but not SM.

Am I the only one that thinks he would be really good presenting SNT?

I think it says a lot about how far ITV will go to protect their biggest stars.

I think hes better of working alone.
Ant and Stephen Mulhern doesnt have the same appeal. Ant and Dec work as a double act togther because they had good chemistry between each other you cant just put any random person next to him who is used to presenting alone and expect it to work as a double act.

ILookedintheWater · 21/03/2018 13:42

Is Stephen Mulhern the one who is on SNTA and looks like a sandpapered version of Terry Christian?

DH really likes him. I couldn't tell you why I don't. I just don't. He seems to engender love or hate in everyone, nothing in between.

Snowsnake · 21/03/2018 13:42

Nah...I recon Dec will wait for ant to be back on his feet.they go so well together,no one else would come close..

Zaphodsotherhead · 21/03/2018 13:42

Maybe SM has been asked and has turned it down? And that is why he's not being touted as a contender?

Snowsnake · 21/03/2018 13:43

Once the dust dies down,he goes to rehab,it all blows over ,6 months time Xmas tv they will be back presenting together o

DollyMcDolly · 21/03/2018 13:43

Not a fan tbh

Bugjune · 21/03/2018 13:45

Rather him than than those ubiquitous ITV goons, Willoughby and Schofield - the last thing those smug bastards need is more airtime.

Notagainmun · 21/03/2018 13:48

I think ITV should utilise the chemistry that SM seems to have with Ant and Dec to be a support for Dec at vital sections of the shows where Ant would have been. Then over time leave Dec to present more and more sections of shows alone. This way Dec could forge solo career. I really hope he does as I think that Ant had burnt his bridges th much of his fans.

Please no more Holly and Phil! Stephan is the best chance of reducing this. I hope ITV bosses do what the majority of the fans really want and don't mess this up with who they think we want.

MrsPreston11 · 21/03/2018 13:49

Yes - I love Mullers.

Dec alone is just going to feel awkward. Stephen is so funny with them.

Dec, Mullers and Scarlett would make a fine show.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 21/03/2018 13:51

Mulhern makes my skin crawl. And I've heard on the grapevine that he's got some unsavoury tastes off screen so I try to avoid giving him any boost to his viewing figures. Should take his crappy magic tricks back to Butlins.

ReinettePompadour · 21/03/2018 13:53

No, SM is bloody awful. Not in the slightest bit funny. If he starts presenting thats the last time I will watch.

Dec will do fine by himself. He needs an opportunity to carve an independent career out and although a jump in the deep end it will be good for him.

RavenclawRealist · 21/03/2018 13:55

It's wouldn't be fair to have anyone step in to the role (on the person or dec). It would be lots of judgement about the connection, the relationship, is it better worse, who do people prefer, is this the new double act! Better I think for dec to go it alone officially and beef up the other roles in the show including Steven maybe do more with the guest voice over person ect. You couldnt slip someone else in to an established show and established double act without it jarring no matter how good they maybe.

FairiesVsPixies · 21/03/2018 13:55

Willoughby and Schofield - the last thing those smug bastards need is more airtime.

Agreed. I cannot stand them Angry

I think Stephen Mulhern would be good with Dec. Only last week my Dh said he was like a third Ant & Dec Grin

ShatnersBassoon · 21/03/2018 13:56

I love TV's Stephen Mulhern! He's dry and self-aware and is much better at the off-the-cuff stuff than any of the big ITV names.

Dec on his own will be really odd, I think. 'Ant and Dec' is greater than the sum of its parts.

BishopBrennansArse · 21/03/2018 13:58

Sandpapered Terry Christian 😂

I think he's insincere, tbh. All lovely and jovial on screen but I reckon not off it. Same was I think about Nick Knowles.

WellyBooties · 21/03/2018 14:00

I think SM and Dec are a little too similar - Stephen even looks like a slightly dodgy Dec waxwork.

CoffeeOrSleep · 21/03/2018 14:00

No, because if Dec does it alone, or with a female presenter, we'll see what he's like and she's like. If Dec presents with Mulhern, he'll just be compared to Ant, the chemistry with Ant etc, and there's no way on the first outting, it'll be anywhere near as good. It'd be a bad move for Mulhern to be a "2nd rate Ant" rather than being seen as a presenter in his own right.

InsomniacAnonymous · 21/03/2018 14:01

I had no idea who Stephen Mulhern is, so Googled and found this www.dailystar.co.uk/showbiz-tv/hot-tv/689951/Ant-McPartlin-Saturday-Night-Takeaway-cancelled-return-Stephen-Mulhern-Declan-Donnelly so he has been mentioned as a contender OP. Smile
Personally I don't care as I don't watch the programme anyway.

ERipley · 21/03/2018 14:05

Rather him than than those ubiquitous ITV goons, Willoughby and Schofield - the last thing those smug bastards need is more airtime.

GrinGrinGrin

I hate Mulhern. I hope he doesn’t do it.

YellowBucket · 21/03/2018 14:06

Don’t really watch things with him (or Ant and Dec) in to be honest. I did like him with Fearne Cotton in Fingertips though.
My enjoyment of Ant and Dec is mostly limited to memories of Byker Grove and the scene with Bill Nighy in Love Actually.

WhyOhWine · 21/03/2018 14:06

Didn't they used to present with Cat Deeley? She would be good and i recall there was good chemistry between the all (if I have the right person).

Faze84 · 21/03/2018 14:09

I wonder what ITVs viewing figures will be this Saturday? No doubt there will be some public interest into how Dec performs alone Hmm

NancyDonahue · 21/03/2018 14:09

I think Dec will do a grand job on his own but if he needs someone to bounce off I liked the Pussycat Doll who used to be on the show.. Ashley someone? She would be my choice.

Please please please not Schofield!!

TopBitchoftheWitches · 21/03/2018 14:09
