What a stupid boy. Worth 60 million and doesn’t get a taxi. I just don’t know how he’ll come back from this latest fiasco (drink drive car crash hits 3 year old).

So....he's drinking again

After just coming out of rehab for addiction to prescription medication and alcohol

CadyHeron · 19/03/2018 08:26

Yeah, just the latter.

Speak for yourself, you don't speak for me. But crack on with all the speculating like everyone else if you like.

ilovegin112 · 19/03/2018 08:26

Itv are already smoothing the way aren’t they, piers Morgan didn’t say a word this morning!!,

ferriswheel · 19/03/2018 08:29

Trickyboots

Yes. Exactly that. Ant, time to let go of your ego and face up to reality. If nothing else you need a rest.

HuskyMcClusky · 19/03/2018 08:30

Well, Cady, I don’t see a lot of speculation. Just facts. He drove, over the limit, and hit other innocent drivers. When he could afford a taxi a million times over, unlike, say, unemployed Trev next door.

I don’t imagine anyone on mumsnet would have one shred of sympathy if he wasn’t a sleb. Or if it was their 3-year-old in hospital.

The guy’s a fucking millionaire - get a cab!!

BaronessEllaSaturday · 19/03/2018 08:38

I don’t see a lot of speculation. Just facts. He drove, over the limit,

That isn't as yet a confirmed fact that I can see by the reports

dayswithaY · 19/03/2018 08:40

Interesting that on GMB today neither Piers or Susanna said anything about it - imagine if that was a soap actor or sports person. Just noticed Lorraine is talking about it but they are going for the sympathy view - Lorraine says Ant will be "devastated" by this and "poor guy". Heavily leaning on the "health" of Ant. Pathetic! No excuse for drink driving ever, typical celebrity idiots all closing ranks to protect him. Drink drivers kill people.

NewYearNewMe18 · 19/03/2018 08:45

I'd rather wait for facts to come out rather than some grainy pictures from the lowest tabloid on the market.

I sincerely doubt he was necking bottles of vodka on his cornflakes prior to taking his mother and dog for a walk . So he's probably done a Kirsty Gallagher and not realised he was over the limit from the night before. easily done.

Over the limit means 1 milligram or 100 milligrams over. The law makes no distinction.

Far too many people on this thread who positively relish, enjoy, delight in another humans perceived downfall.

He will bounce back from this - people LIKE ant 'n' Dec, they wouldn't be voted best 17 times at the National TV awards, a public vote, not an industry vote, if they were unpopular. He hasn't gone out to harm someone, he'll make a genuine apology and we will continue to love him and wish him well.

I hope he sorts what ever demons are haunting him out soon. He's in a fragile state and old biddies salivating round the papers with pitch forks won't be contributing anything to his health and well being .

bastardkitty · 19/03/2018 08:47

^ Is this irony?

dayswithaY · 19/03/2018 08:47

I don't think anyone is relishing a celebrity downfall here - just don't like drink drivers - who does?

FleurDelacoeur · 19/03/2018 08:48

nteresting that on GMB today neither Piers or Susanna said anything about it

ITV have to protect one of their biggest and most highly paid stars. Ant and Dec are on all of the biggest ITV shows and behind the scenes there will be mass panic as bosses know that viewers won't watch the Celeb Jungle or that talent thing without Ant and Dec. And "just Dec" isn't going to fly. I personally don't like the stuff Ant and Dec do, it's all a bit childish and downmarket, but they have a huge audience and make a lot of money for ITV.

BBC Breakfast are reporting it in a very matter of fact way with no "poor Ant" sentiments.

OliviaStabler · 19/03/2018 08:49

Well, Cady, I don’t see a lot of speculation. Just facts. He drove, over the limit, and hit other innocent drivers.

We don't know he was over the limit. He was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. I suggest we all wait to see the facts before acting like judge, jury and executioner.

SlothMama · 19/03/2018 08:52

I hope he doesn't come back, anyone who drinks and drives is a disgusting person. He could have killed someone, he doesn't deserve the money or attention he currently gets. He needs to get himself into rehab and sort himself out.

HuskyMcClusky · 19/03/2018 08:53

The BBC report says he ‘failed a roadside breathalyser test’.

That only happens because a) you are over the limit or b) you refuse the test (...because you’re over the limit).

JaneEyre70 · 19/03/2018 08:55

I don't for one second condone his actions. There is no excuse for getting behind the wheel of a car if you have been drinking. Especially knowing his mum was in the car too. But, he was pushed back into working far too quickly, there is no way he could have recovered in such a short amount of time and clearly the pressure is too much. I can't imagine the fact that Dec's wife manages them has helped either - his career is entwined with Ant's. No work, no money. I really hope that ITV now take a stand and keep them both off screen until Ant has had the proper amount of time and treatment to recover properly, if he can. It's not comfortable to watch his decline. I really hope that the child and its parents are OK today. It's terrifying to be involved in an accident, regardless of who the driver is.

Whizbang · 19/03/2018 08:56

There’s no need for any police enquiry since some in this thread clearly have all the facts and have already condemned him. Also the tone of glee apparent in some of the above posts is rather ugly.

He’s been struggling and in rehab, and is clearly still struggling. I hope he gets the help he needs I don’t think his career will be damaged long term.

84CharingCrossRoad · 19/03/2018 09:00

People are apparently worried whether Saturday Night Takeaway will happen this weekend or not.
I think they should be more worried about the poor innocent three year old child who was in the other car....

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 19/03/2018 09:01

And the innocent 3 year old, Whizbang - do you care if a he’s “damaged long term”?

Sorry but I could never have any sympathy, ever, with anyone who knows they’ve been drinking and still chooses to get behind the wheel of a car. It’s one of the most selfish things you can do.

If you’re mega rich and could afford your own taxi firm, never mind a taxi, that makes it even worse.

I predict here that itv will ship in a replacement and ship ant off to more rehab. He’ll come out, go back to his career, and get himself a shiny new young girlfriend. Twitter is already full of people screeching not to judge him Hmm - who gives a fuck who he is, he could have killed a family!

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 19/03/2018 09:01

*she’s, not a he’s

I also feel sorry for Ant, not for drink driving but because of the state he has been in for the last few years.

Sometimes you need to reach absolute rock bottom before you can lift yourself off the floor.

I hope no one was hurt in the accident and I hope he gets the help he needs to make him well for good.

LakieLady · 19/03/2018 09:02

If I was worth £60m, I sure as hell wouldn't be driving myself anywhere, unless I particularly fancied going for a drive and it was just for fun.

I'd have a team of chauffeurs available round the clock, so I could relax in the back. And get pissed, if I felt like it.

Drink driving is inexcusable imo, whoever you are. And I speak as someone who's been driving for over 40 years, back when there was no stigma attached to it and if you got done, it was bad luck and your friends and family were sympathetic.

Now, it seems unthinkable that we ever thought like that.

NewYearNewMe18 · 19/03/2018 09:02

I personally don't like the stuff Ant and Dec do, it's all a bit childish and downmarket, but they have a huge audience and make a lot of money for ITV.

What they do is make people happy. They do have a child like quality, a nice child like quality though, the sort of children who like to please others, who laugh and giggle a lot, they give away things even when you don't win their competition, they don't belittle anyone, they don't poke fun at members of the public, the joke is always on Ant 'n' Dec. They manage to run a prime time TV show without any nastiness, overt sexual behaviour or spitefulness. They seem to genuinely enjoy each others company.

Obviously I don't know them personally, much like this entire thread but I do know where they bank, and one of the cashiers is a very close friend and she's always said they are an absolute delight to deal with. Unlike many WC people who come into money, it hasn't affected them one bit, they remain cheerful and polite to those others would deem beneath them. I'll take her opinion as the gospel.

"I really hope that ITV now take a stand and keep them both off screen until Ant has had the proper amount of time and treatment to recover properly"

Why should Dec effectively be suspended?
