What a stupid boy. Worth 60 million and doesn’t get a taxi. I just don’t know how he’ll come back from this latest fiasco (drink drive car crash hits 3 year old).

Helenadove, what has your weight got to do with a celebrity drink driving?
Am I missing something?

lifechangesforever · 19/03/2018 18:49

Just watched the video.. that ain't a 'I've just had a glass of wine with my Sunday dinner' type drink driving! He looked absolutely wasted.

Bundlesmads · 19/03/2018 18:50

saints that is probably one of the dumbest, nastiest most mean spirited posts I have ever read. Mental health issues do not affect your ability to drive.

Complications to some conditions might make you unsafe to drive but (just like physical health issues) these are dealt with on a case by case basis.

You might as well say nobody with diabetes should be allowed to drive because it’s possible people with very severe cases might have issues which mean they’re not safe to drive.

Anyway, you’d better hope the don’t bring in an IQ test as part of the qualification. You’d definitely have to hand your licence back.

Sparklingbrook · 19/03/2018 18:53

I just thought he looked like anyone would look after a front end smash. Over the limit or otherwise, just dazed and shocked.

DS2's comments on the matter involved wondering whether the winners of 'seats on the plane' would be worried now.

Ariela · 19/03/2018 18:59

Who hasn't driven over the limit the morning after?

Me. My first job on leaving school was working for the Public Analyst Laboratory, where one of their tasks was to test the 1/3 sample of blood taken that was given back to the driver when they'd failed a roadside breathalyser and blood was taken to test for alcohol (pre digital breathalyser), one portion was kept, one was analysed by the police and the third was given to the driver who, in cases where the figure was borderline, might choose to have it independently tested.

We, of course, used to go to the pub at lunchtime, consume verying amounts of different drinks and spend the afternoons also testing how our blood alcohol levels decreased. For some of us (me included) the blood alcohol decreased far more rapidly than for others. I'd suggest being younger perhaps I had a higher metabolic rate? Without access to a breath tester I really would not drive as I frankly have not a clue how quickly the alcohol would leave my blood these days.

He had a choice not to drive, but chose to drive. He could have taken a taxi, employed a driver if a regualr thing, or got somebody else to drive.

He could afford any of the above options.

userxx · 19/03/2018 19:00

@lifechangesforever I thought exactly the same.

BishopBrennansArse · 19/03/2018 19:01

I have no sympathy IF the allegations are true.
I'm a cynic but 'rushing to rehab' screams of legal advice to minimise sentence and pave the way for public eye rehabilitation.

raidthefridge · 19/03/2018 19:02

ITV need to do a comparison test with how they're treating Jamie Carragher (Sky) versus one of their own. They're bulshitting us and taking us for tossers.

Carragher wasn't even charged. No police involved yet they go in, balls a frenzy, getting the Lizzy Cundy on, offering her informed opinion about whether he should keep his job.

Today - nothing.

Utter, utter hypocrites. They pretend it didn't happen.

I urge you all to look at this and pay attention to what you're watching. In short - propaganda.

Amanduh · 19/03/2018 19:09

I think there is massive double standards, Kirsty Gallacher got caught going to pick up her kids and her career hasn’t been affected at all - job intact etc etc.
He looks odd in the video but could be shock - his mum and dog were in the car with him, surely she wouldnt let him drive straight after a bender?
Its SO hard with media and social media when you’re struggling. They’ll hound him like Gazza.
The drink driving I have absolutely no sympathy for, the addiction and MH I very much do.

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/03/2018 19:10

Of course he'll be rushed to rehab.
He can hardly say no,, and of course he shouldn't say no, but given who and what he works for, he's not really his own person now.
He can't even quietly go away and give up the fame either, as he's part of a double act, and his manager is married to his friend.

I'm getting anxious just posting about it!

HelenaDove · 19/03/2018 19:11

Brillo go back and read Shinycats posts. And then have a bit of a think.

Anyone would think it was Scarlett who has allegedly committed a crime not Ant.

Women in the public eye get a much harder time over their weight than allegedly drunk male celebs who commit driving offences.

Ive seen a lot more sympathy towards Ant than i ever see for Scarlett or for someone like Pauline Quirke or even a female celeb who is carrying a bit of baby weight. Wasnt it OK mag who made comments about Kate Middletons baby weight.

Piers Morgan himself has tore into women over their weight. Yet over this there is mental gymnastics at best and silence at worst.

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/03/2018 19:12

Kristy Gallagher isn't without clout to do with her family.

Thirtyrock39 · 19/03/2018 19:14

For those asking about the painkiller thing - painkillers are basically opiates- once the supply is stopped it leaves a dependency on opiates that often leads to the next available opiate = heroin ...this is what has caused the massive heroin/ crack epidemic in America - painkillers such as OxyContin prescribed, addiction to opiate in the painkiller begins, once no longer prescribed user has to replace OxyContin with cheaper and easier to find heroin . It's not that these painkiller addictions are just taking a few extra aspirins !

ferriswheel · 19/03/2018 19:25

Brillo

I think so too. His mum must be so worried.

buddhasbelly · 19/03/2018 19:25

@Bundlesmads re-read saints comments. It says "certain mental health issues" which I took to mean drug or alcohol dependency.

saints comments are accurate. Anyone with a dependency on alcohol or drugs is supposed to inform the dvla and a licence will be suspended until a year's sobriety has been achieved. This is regardless I whether you have any previous driving convictions or not.

metalmum15 · 19/03/2018 19:29

I like the fact he supposedly had a chat with ITV & Dec and then 'asked for time off to go back to rehab'. I would imagine the truth is ITV didn't give him any choice!

bastardkitty · 19/03/2018 19:34

'Time to pull the rehab shizzle again Ant'

Bundlesmads · 19/03/2018 19:34

buddha, that is not what she said at all. In fact she made a point at the start of her post of saying she was not referring to addictions but was saying that people who couldn’t kick their addictions had other mental health conditions underlying.

She was absolutely specific she was not talking about addiction but about other unspecified conditions.

Bundlesmads · 19/03/2018 19:36

Basically what she was saying is that some people with mental health problems have addictions therefore people with mental health problems shouldn’t be allowed to drive.

She was very specific about the fact she was talking about MH - not addictions.

Sparklingbrook · 19/03/2018 19:40

He should go to rehab, it's the best place for him now. He's not exactly going to be able to go out and about and do anything at all after this. The tabloids will be camped out outside his house, following his every move.

Unfortunately Dec and Ant's wife will get the tabloid treatment as well.

Quartz2208 · 19/03/2018 19:42

I think looking at him the priority is getting him back health (Physical and mental) wise rather than his career. He has been teetering on the edge for awhile and watching it has been painful viewing

MissEliza · 19/03/2018 19:47

He was rushed back to work because ITV and Dec rely so heavily on him IMHO. It feels like his MH needs weren't put first and they almost deserve what they get:

Butterymuffin · 19/03/2018 19:48

Let's hope he's booked into a different rehab place. The last one doesn't seem to have worked very well.

It must be hard bloody work carrying half of a double act when they're an alcoholic

Anyone else thinking of the Bernie Clifton's Dressing Room episode of Inside No 9?

buddhasbelly · 19/03/2018 19:48

I read it as people with addictions that are not fully recovered would be deemed to have a mental health issue. Some mental health issues should be cause for not being allowed to drive. Which is the stance the dvla would take on it.

ferriswheel · 19/03/2018 19:49

Yeah Quartz. Watching has been painful, stressful even.

They need to give us and them a break. Fern Britton said when she left This Morning that it was someone else's turn.

I'm a big fan of their duo but as the op says i dont know how he can come back from this either.
