What a stupid boy. Worth 60 million and doesn’t get a taxi. I just don’t know how he’ll come back from this latest fiasco (drink drive car crash hits 3 year old).

Collywobbles if he'd asked his mum to drive he'd have had to admit that he had relapsed and he probably didn't want to do that and is probably making very sure he drinks in secret, as alcoholics often do.

Blackteadrinker77 · 19/03/2018 17:29

If only as many people were exercised about the Telford scandal

I'm disgusted about both but the media has been almost silent about Telford compared to this.

Bundlesmads · 19/03/2018 17:30

One of the worst things in this is how much he’s betrayed Dec. His best friend. One who apparently cared about him so much he held off on starting his own family while Ant was going through fertility struggles.

Because he’s not just fucked his own career. He’s fucked Dec’s too.

shesakeeper · 19/03/2018 17:30

I wonder if, while obvs sad for his mate, Dec might be pleased that he can establish himself in his own right as an entertainer. It must be hard bloody work carrying half of a double act when they're an alcoholic.

My DSis has got REALLY carried away overthinking this as some evil long term plan being masterminded by Dec to finally bring himself the solo recognition he deserves. She really needs to put the gossip magazines down!

HelenaDove · 19/03/2018 17:30

"I've seen the very defensive/angry posts from people who are worried one of their favourite Saturday shows might get pulled, mocking any mention of the three year old because she wasn't hurt, but that comes entirely down to luck, and it's not something that should be swept under the carpet just to protect a TV show because he could end up killing someone"

Which shows how far the celebrity culture has gone.

Bundlesmads · 19/03/2018 17:31

Doinit, it wasn’t a ‘relapse’. He never even admitted to being an alcoholic. It was only pills he admitted an addiction to.

DoinItForTheKids · 19/03/2018 17:32

Sounds like it was a proper rubbish rehab if they didn't identify raging alcoholism whilst they had him there - he must have been feeling the effects, specifically, of alcohol withdrawal (wouldn't he?).

boxthefox - I AM outraged about Telford. Sadly, the entire child protection, policy and law system in this country is a bloody joke and needs a complete overhaul. Start a thread on it if it's so important a topic (which is is) then we can all comment on it.

MsGameandWatching · 19/03/2018 17:32

Maybe he wouldn't let his Mum drive. By all accounts he was shouting at her as he got out of the car and then was shouting at the police. My ex is an alcoholic and and negative outcomes due to his drinking were always met with aggression and blame, it was never his fault.

Tralalee · 19/03/2018 17:35

I know two people who went into rehab for painkillers. Both times the issue was really cocaine.

dayswithaY · 19/03/2018 17:36

I feel sympathy for Dec as he has been left in an awkward position, he completely carried Ant on the last I'm a Celeb, but if you're part of a double act then that's the risk you take. I bet they had an awkward conversation yesterday and wonder how long Dec's patience will last. I believe his wife is his agent, some people might start advising him to move on from Ant as it will damage his brand.

troodiedoo · 19/03/2018 17:36

I read once that they have insurance on the other stopping them from earning in future.

Surely this will be the end of snt. We can but hope. It's tired.

Reckon he'll lie low for a while then do a bloody piers Morgan interview.

Bundlesmads · 19/03/2018 17:37

doinit, alcohol withdrawal isn’t necessarily that easy to identify. Particularly when there is another addiction going on. And because rehab for the pills involved not drinking the booze addiction would have been even harder to spot.

Physical signs like liver damage can also be due to the pills addiction.

Alcohol addiction isn’t really something like heroin where withdrawal is always obvious.

bastardkitty · 19/03/2018 17:37

It was painkillers and alcohol.

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/03/2018 17:38

I think there's probably been a lot covered up regarding his previous behaviour/condition and this time he let it slip.
Do I think he can get his career back? Yes absolutely.
Do i think he deserves to?
I'm not sure, I think what this shows is that he's not "Ant the cheeky chappie", and that's where his career is, and what we've been sold.
Do I feel sorry for Dec, yes, but Dec's wife is their manager and will be aware of everything.

He may have 60 million, yes he should have taken a taxi but honestly, I'd take my life on benefits over the scrutiny he's currently going through.

SouthWestmom · 19/03/2018 17:42

I've just read he's going back to rehab and SNT is cancelled this week. Wasn't expecting that. Thought they'd get a stand in and he'd have a couple of weeks to make it go away:

The80sweregreat · 19/03/2018 17:42

I feel a bit sorry for Dec to be honest. Going solo will be hard for him after years of being a double act. I bet his furious deep down. ( not that I know anything!)

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 19/03/2018 17:43

This is absolutely not aimed at Ant specifically - but does anyone else find it bizarre how many celebrities end up with a painkiller addiction? Surely it's not really painkillers, given their unlimited funds and access to anything they like?

Bundlesmads · 19/03/2018 17:46

bastardkitty it was NOT alcohol. Read the interview. He made a point of saying that the doctors told him he wasn’t an alcoholic and that he was going to be drinking again. He said he was just drinking a bit too much and wasn’t addicted.

It was this interview which made me really uncomfortable. He went so far out of his way to deny being an alcoholic and made a point about it being okay for him to drink and just minimise the whole alcohol issue. I read it and I thought ‘You just can’t wait to get back on the booze can you’.

lifechangesforever · 19/03/2018 17:46

I can't believe there's actually people who are trying to defend his actions .. 'oh poor Ant, he has such problems'

We all have problems. If we so choose to soothe them with alcohol (not saying that's right either!) then fine, but don't get in a car and drive. No excuse for it.

HelenaDove · 19/03/2018 17:47

"

I have no sympathy for drink-drivers, but I feel a bit for Ant, as he is 100% in the public eye, and has already had issues with his dead marriage, his wife trying to take him for everything"

Shinycat you are talking about Ants wife who is/was actually married to him and has likely been through more hell than Dec has due to Ants issues because she had to live with him.

dayswithaY · 19/03/2018 17:47

I think it's the same as when celebs are treated for "exhaustion". It covers a variety of problems no questions asked.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 19/03/2018 17:48

I read somewhere that the accident was at 4pm so doubtful it was a remnants of the previous night's session thing...
Ant & Dec aren't my cup of tea but they've made the entertainment market thier own so it's a shame he seems hellbent on wrecking it.

Bundlesmads · 19/03/2018 17:51

IanRushes, painkiller addiction isn’t just a problem for celebrities. It’s an increasing issue and the government announced an inquiry into it in January. In the US it has reached epidemic proportions.

And Ant does fit the profile, initially he was prescribed them for a genuine issue after a knee op but then moved onto abuse.

MaiaRindell · 19/03/2018 17:52

He is going back to rehab and has stepped down from his tv commitments. I also feel sorry for Dec.

MaiaRindell · 19/03/2018 17:53

IanRushes more people than ever are addicted to opiates since they are prescribed more than ever. The figures are astounding.
