What a stupid boy. Worth 60 million and doesn’t get a taxi. I just don’t know how he’ll come back from this latest fiasco (drink drive car crash hits 3 year old).

He's got form for pranging his car after dog walking. Last time he only hit a tree though.

It is not uncommon for problem drinkers to start winding up with drunk driving charges, it's a well worn pattern and often the point where many hold their hands up and say right I need to do something about this now.

RunMummyRun68 · 19/03/2018 16:43

no bail conditions then....so no further charges?

The80sweregreat · 19/03/2018 16:49

Yep. Harry Potter ! They like to roll them out to fill a gap.

GladAllOver · 19/03/2018 16:51

Just another drunk celeb. Nothing to see here. Move along please.

Shinycat · 19/03/2018 16:52

@The80sweregreat

I don't hate Takeaway, but I am bored with it and think it needs pensioning off. IMO Ant and Dec need around one and a half years away from tv now, as they need a break.

Ant is a plonker driving over the limit, but no-one was hurt thank God. (Probably coz he was not massively over the limit, and wasn't going very fast.)

I am not trying to excuse him though, and maybe this is the wake-up call he needs.

I hope he gets a driving ban (2 years,) a fine, and a rest off telly for a year or so, and all the help he needs with his issues.

Ant and Dec are decent blokes, and I would hate for them to disappear, but as I said, I think they need around one and a half years away from telly. They need to go away for now, and then come back with a 4-5 week spell on I'm a celeb, (say December 2019,) and then 10 weeks of BGT in early 2020. And then come back circa 2021 with a new Ant and Dec Saturday show...

@ManicUnicorn I hope the people still get their Florida trip too.

Shinycat · 19/03/2018 16:53

And no HARRY POTTER FILM pleeeeeeeze.

I am sick to fuck of them.

And I actually like them (usually!)

Fruitbat1980 · 19/03/2018 16:54

I wonder who will be Decs sidekick when he returns? My money is on Holly. Please not Scarlett I can only take her in small doses.
I’m glad Ant is getting help, but to the original point of the thread - drink driving is never acceptable no matter what. End of.

"Interesting that on GMB today neither Piers or Susanna said anything about it - imagine if that was a soap actor or sports person. Just noticed Lorraine is talking about it but they are going for the sympathy view - Lorraine says Ant will be "devastated" by this and "poor guy". Heavily leaning on the "health" of Ant. Pathetic! No excuse for drink driving ever, typical celebrity idiots all closing ranks to protect him. Drink drivers kill people"

If ITV arent careful they wont come out of this covered in glory either.

And will come out of this looking like a bunch of hypocrites.

GayAllen · 19/03/2018 17:00

It’ll be Dec and Stephen Mulherne I expect. That could work well.

I have a deep loathing of Scarlet. I loved her on Gogglebox but she’s utterly talentless as a presenter. Shouty and can’t think on her feet. Not to mention the excessive lip surgery and ridiculous teeth.

Luckyme2 · 19/03/2018 17:01

Just thinking if someone posted on AIBU "I was driving home from my Mums at 4pm today with my 3 year old in the car when this car drove head on in to me. None of us were badly injured thankfully although my DD was taken to hospital for a check up as a precaution. The car was in a right mess. It turns out the other driver was over the limit. Not sure if he'd been drinking that day or if over the limit from the night before but he clearly didn't have control of the car. AIBU to feel complete anger towards him as this accident could have been so much worse. I've heard he's had some problems in the past but AIBU to think tough luck mate you could have killed me and my child". ...... I think I know what the replies on here would be and there wouldn't be much sympathy to the driver or much reserving of judgment....

I am sorry to say that also cannot stand Scarlett. Talentless, irritating voice, pointless, and rubbish at presenting.

I liked her a LOT on gogglebox as she seemed cute and funny and witty. But she is awful now. And her 'look at me and how much weight I have lost' bollocks pissed me off. Sold loads of DVD's and made a packet from it. Yet she never talks about the fact she has regained it - and then some. Hmm She should really be made to give all the money back that she made from the DVD IMO.

The80sweregreat · 19/03/2018 17:09

I think they both need to step away from it all - I agree. Time to move on.
Bad for Dec as he hasn’t done anything wrong - but all things come to an end eventually.

Shinycat · 19/03/2018 17:10

@LuckyMe2 Where exactly are people defending Ant? Confused

All I see are a few people feeling for him and his life issues, but thinking he should be punished for his crime still.

There was a load of ludicrous tweets on twitter earlier where people were ranting about how Ant should 'not get special treatment just coz he is faymuss!' But no-one has said he SHOULD get any special treatment! Hmm

Some people just like to kick people when they're down.

Yes of COURSE he has done wrong, but any non famous person who this happened to, would have no more than a fine and a driving ban (as no-one was badly hurt) so there's no reason why he should he have anything more than that!

Fruitbat1980 · 19/03/2018 17:11

I wonder how they’ll play the Florida finale thing. I know they could just can it and send everyone on hols but I bet Universal will have a super tight contract with them regards publicity/ presenters etc I think they’ll can SNT completely. Ho hum. Speculation till the next statement.

Collywobbles1984 · 19/03/2018 17:11

What on earth possessed him to drink in the first place?! I'd assume that after a stint in rehab, he'd be on some anti-depressants, which if mixed with drink, can have an awful affect. I'm on ad's and that was the first thing my doctor said to me! And his mother was with him, why didn't she bloody drive?!

boxthefox · 19/03/2018 17:14

What did the Romans, sorry Celebrities do for us? Really, honestly I don't get the obsession with people like this.

I don't feel sorry for him or anyone like him, I don't engage. They are human for sure, but life is a lot easier with 60million at your back.

This is ridiculous celebrity gossip. Bonkers.

CuboidalSlipshoddy · 19/03/2018 17:16

What did the Romans, sorry Celebrities do for us?

The Roman Empire collapsed, according to Juneval and Gibbon, in part because the people gave up their rights in exchange for bread and circuses.

Celebs don't even give you bread, just circuses.

Behold! the field in which I grow my fucks.
Lay thine eyes upon it and see that it is barren.

Aibu to think he’ll struggle coming back from this (Ant)
Luckyme2 · 19/03/2018 17:21

ShinyCat I am sure if charged and convicted he will get the same punishment as a non celebrity. Unfortunately however his career depends on his public persona and the effect his actions may or may not have on that will depend on whether he can retain his popularity after this. Non celebrities do sometimes lose their jobs after a drink driving conviction.
Also - I didn't say people were defending him. No one is going to defend drink driving, but I am seeing a lot of sympathy and comments about his circumstances which we wouldn't be getting if this was a random non celebrity and someone had posted about their child being in the car.
I am most definitely not in the ranting brigade believe me.

Blackteadrinker77 · 19/03/2018 17:23

Anyone who drink drives should lose their licence for life.

DoinItForTheKids · 19/03/2018 17:23

I think it clearly shows someone who's been to rehab (and typically as in many cases, not for nearly long enough - clearly he needs a complete therapy and support package lasting many many many weeks), and just carried on drinking, more than likely being far more careful about hiding the drinking so that his mum didn't know he was over the limit. So he's still struggling and I feel for him for that as addiction is a bloody awful thing when it gets its grip on you. It's going to take him a long time and a lot of dedicated hard work in therapy if he can hope to come back from you. And I have huge sympathy for him.

However, when he got behind the wheel of the car whether he'd just stumbled out of the pub fully pissed or had been drinking some earlier in the day, he was compus mentus enough to walk and take dogs for a walk and talk to his mother so he was most definitely capable of thinking, do you know what, 'I might be over the limit (never mind 'I've had a relapse and need to to back into therapy') so I'm not going to get in the car. Let's hope the little girl is absolutely find but I hope it dawns on him that he really has come to the end of the line now and that he could have killed himself, his mum, their dogs, the litter girl and her parent(s) as well as others if it had turned out worse. I also agree that it's irrelevant if he's a star or not he should face exactly the same levels of law and punishment as he made a reckless and selfish decision endangering other people's lives. There's plenty of other folk who do this who lose their jobs because they can no longer drive to work and he should face those same inconveniences like they would.

boxthefox · 19/03/2018 17:26

If only as many people were exercised about the Telford scandal.

But no celebrities there eh?

Bundlesmads · 19/03/2018 17:27

collywobbles, he didn’t get rehab’d for booze, it was for painkillers.

His post rehab interview made me really uncomfortable at the time. He was even saying he was only off the booze temporarily and ‘couldn’t wait’ for his next pint. I have family members who have suffered from alcoholism and even before the whole pills thing I could see there was something wrong there with the booze. He and his wife seemed to constantly be pictured drinking and both of them had that puffy faced, bloated, pasty alcoholic look about them. And the way he made an absolute point out of the fact he wasn’t going to stop drinking just rang alarm bells for me. It was just blatant denial.

I mentioned it on here at the time and how uncomfortable it made me and I got absolutely slaughtered for it by other posters who said he couldn’t possibly have an alcohol problem and that the signs families of alcoholics can pick up on are meaningless.

As for his Mum, she might not drive or might not know he was over the limit. It was quite early wasn’t it? Maybe he was still over the limit from the night before and she had no idea.
