This is in a very good area.

educatingarti · 17/03/2018 16:30

Larlarland it would be a really long commute into Manchester City Centre though.

LARLARLAND · 17/03/2018 16:32

Not really educatingarti

This is just off the East Lancs Road.

educatingarti · 17/03/2018 16:38

Way more than 20 minutes Larlarland, I would have said?

LARLARLAND · 17/03/2018 16:42

It's about half an hour but then I suppose you have to factor in what time you are travelling into Manchester.

educatingarti · 17/03/2018 16:47

In the rush hour the East Lancs can be a right pain. I don't know how long it would take on the guided bus way but I'd hate to drive v in our out on East Lancs in rush hour!

KinkyAfro · 17/03/2018 16:47

£250k not very helpful when OP's budget is £150k

PollyMycroft · 17/03/2018 16:59

To be fair if the budget is 150k with greenery within 20 mins of Manchester somewhere 'nice to live' then I think the OP is going to struggle. Even terraced housing in Walkden that are fronted straight on the pavement can sell for 150k.
Possibly could get a semi in Farnworth for that this side of town but the M61/M60 is hellish.
150k will get you very little in the Stretford/Urmston/Sale areas and beyond I'm afraid.

Persephone31 · 17/03/2018 17:16

People can be very blinkered in Manchester and only consider classically good areas like Didsbury, Altrincham etc. As others have said, thr market is mad in those areas. Friends say you have to offer 10k or more OVER the asking price to get a look and with 150k you'll be looking at flats.

Look beyond S. manc and you're looking at not just much cheaper housing but cheaper childcare etc. Look in Shaw, Royton, North Chadderton, Moorside, Prestwich, Middleton, Alkrington. With childcare, childminders in NE Manc are c. 30 a day. In Stockport, Chorlton etc they can be more like 50. You can have a much better quality life in less trendy areas on a lower income.

Persephone31 · 17/03/2018 17:17

I just don't agree the OP will struggle - look in Royton - 3 bed semis within walking distance of a country park for 150k

candyloves · 17/03/2018 17:18

Gtr Manchester is probably your best bet as others have said.
Maybe not a 20 min car journey to city centre in rush hours but certainly doable in 20 mins on train. How about Atherton? I see Walkden also mentioned. There's Hindley too near Wigan. All on a pretty regular train line to MCC and 20 - 30 mins on train.

candyloves · 17/03/2018 17:19

And doable within the 150k budget

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 17/03/2018 17:28

For £150k and needing 3 beds, OP will have to compromise on something (who doesn't, when house hunting, apart from Wayne Rooney!). This could be the area, if she wants to be close to town, or the commute if she wants pretty and green. When I was a small child we lived in saddleworth for a a couple of years and my dad commuted into Manchester - it was a lovely place to live, such nice scenery, loads of greenery and within easy enough reach of several bigger places if you like. I go there occasionally now to see friends and can absolutely see why my parents chose it.

2b1c51 · 17/03/2018 17:40

Good luck getting anything in saddleworth for £150k though! Or if you do see anything let me know...!

Mumofmyboy · 17/03/2018 17:42

Another vote for Prestwich/Whitefield but think you would struggle to get 3 bedrooms on your budget - house prices are rising very quickly in those areas. However there are areas surrounding Prestwich/Whitefield that are significantly cheaper (Radcliffe, Crumpsall, Blackley) and whilst they may not be as "desirable" certain parts of these areas are very nice and up and coming.

gillybeanz · 17/03/2018 17:58

My dd has a friend who lives on Saddleworth, both her parents have exceptionally well paid jobs.
I agree £150 won't touch it.

OP, you might have to make some compromises and either go further out or opt for a less attractive area.

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 17/03/2018 18:01

This development is in saddleworth; 3 bed townhouses from £135-160k. Don't know springhead though - I remember greenfield and shelf and digger!

gillybeanz · 17/03/2018 18:03

What about Atherton, about 20 mins on train to Victoria.

billybullshitterz1 · 17/03/2018 18:04

Have a look in Monton. Lovely cool high st. Villagey feel but close to the city

KinkyAfro · 17/03/2018 18:21

You'd struggle in monton too for £150 unless you were on the edges...winton, peel green etc

2b1c51 · 17/03/2018 18:51

Ianrushes- that development in Springhead is only £145k if you complete all the internal work yourself. It's 225k if you want a kitchen, bathroom, carpets etc. It's a very sneaky advert!

Lordoftheringsting · 17/03/2018 18:54

Let’s face it, you don’t get much for that money in decent areas so have to compromise on area usually.

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 17/03/2018 19:19

Devious gits!!!
