Posting for traffic, sorry

What areas of Manchester are nice to live in? Minimum 3 bed, family style life

OP posts:

Schools in Burnage are an issue as previously mentioned. Not great at all. Though if you are RC it’s better as the high schools aren’t too bad.

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 17/03/2018 10:40

Parrswood is a good high school. Beaver Rd primary is good too but hard to get into.
Don't bother with Fallowfield. The students have taken over. We moved from there.

InspMorse · 17/03/2018 10:48

Hale is a lovely village/town outside of Manchester.
OP has 150k

Beetlejizz · 17/03/2018 10:56

I had a gander and there are a few 3 beds in Burnage for about 175k, if the budget would stretch at all OP. Only thing less than that was a doer upper for 160k that looked like it needed well over 15k of work, so not really any cheaper. But most places are at 180k+ so as an area it may not be within budget.

Little Lever and Kearsley in Bolton also occur, if you're ok with being in Greater Manchester as opposed to the City of Manchester OP (and the geography of Manchester is a bit deceptive, there are plenty of areas not in the City of Manchester that are closer to the centre than some areas that are). There are loads of country parks round there and a couple of train stations sort of on the outskirts. And lots of 3 beds for under 150k. I don't know what the schools are like though.

Cleanermaidcook · 17/03/2018 11:04

Bury area is good, house prices in your budget, tram and train straight into Manchester plenty areas with country parks etc. and Bury itself haso decent enough shopping and entertainment. Or have a look at Radcliffe, Little Lever, Walkden.

iklboo · 17/03/2018 11:14

@KinkyAfro - we're near Railway Road on the other side of Eden Square.

GrannyGrissle · 17/03/2018 11:18

Levenshulme is FOUL. Could not pay me to live there or Brimmington. Lots of crap hence cheap places, Poynton etc expensive and not remotely Manchesteresque.

AlonsosLeftPinky · 17/03/2018 11:23

Middleton / Bury / Heywood etc all have nice parts and there's plenty of green space. Housing prices are very reasonable. Transport links are good and you can be in Manchester City Centre within 20 minutes.

redbirdblackbird · 17/03/2018 11:25

I'd be very surprised to get a 3 bed semi in a decent part of sale for 200k!! I live in a 3 bed semi in sale worth at least 100k more

KinkyAfro · 17/03/2018 11:38

The plans for the new food hall on the market site look good iklboo. Sad that the market will be going but at least it won't be more apartments!

iklboo · 17/03/2018 12:49

That was a relief kinky. And the monthly market is moving to Golden Hill car park so we still get that.

KinkyAfro · 17/03/2018 13:45

Didn't know about the golden hill market @iklboo, also very good news 👍

Batmanwearspants · 17/03/2018 14:20

If a property is listed as 175k in Burnage it is likely going to go for closer to 185k.

The market is crazy here at the moment.

EggysMom · 17/03/2018 15:52

Isn't it funny. Some say there are nice pockets of Levenshulme, others say avoid. I live in Clayton and would never consider Chadderton, it's a dive, but others say no to Clayton and recommend Chadderton.

I think every area is (a) dependent on price and (b) what you make of it. But given the budget of £150k, stop suggesting Didsbury etc - there's no way the OP can afford even a garage there!!

crazycatgal · 17/03/2018 15:58

I wouldn't look too close to Rochdale, it's an absolute dive. Have a look at Prestwich, Bury and Ramsbottom.

educatingarti · 17/03/2018 15:59

YY to Lancaster Road area of Salford ( although not on Lancaster Road itself if you want to get a car off the drug in the rush hour. Nice parks and playing fields nearby.
You might also want to look at Monton.

Tisfortired · 17/03/2018 16:04

I'm in Oldham, north east Manchester, in the Moorside area. Live in a 2 bed semi that was 110k to give you an idea - you'll get a plenty big enough 3 bed for 150, there is also Royton/ Shaw as been previously mentioned that are very close to tram stops for direct links to Manchester.

We are within 5 mins drive of gorgeous countryside, the Saddleworth moors and Dovestones reservoir, and 25 minute drive into Manchester City centre (where I work.)

PollyMycroft · 17/03/2018 16:11

Worsley/Ellenbrook/Boothstown on or near East Lancs and Guided Busway for commute. Boothstown is cheaper. 3 bed semi 250k ish.
Loads of greenery and the RHS in a couple of years.
Rush hour is awful though.

userxx · 17/03/2018 16:15

Monton is meant to be up and coming. Don't even bother looking at Hale, Altrincham, timperley or sale - way too overpriced.

educatingarti · 17/03/2018 16:17

This might be of particular interest. I know people who live on this road. Some really nice families. Near to parks. If you need a primary school and don't mind C of E , then At John's has a good reputation.

userxx · 17/03/2018 16:18

What about this

Posting for Traffic - Manchester?
educatingarti · 17/03/2018 16:19

St John's !

educatingarti · 17/03/2018 16:21

Monton itself will be too expensive ( just looked) but you might get something on the top end of Parin Lane on the edge of Monton which might suit. Car parking might be tricky though so check on that if it is a requirement.
