Hello user Grin ooh, you little pie eater.
Winstanley also has a great sixth form college.

I'm from a nice area but not near Winstanley, our house was pretty cheap in comparison to Cheshire.

Dontsayyouloveme · 16/03/2018 21:37

Astley and tyldesley -m29, M28, nice areas with fair bit of green but rapidly turning into bricks. Easy commute into Manchester City centre on the guided busway!

KinkyAfro · 16/03/2018 21:38

gilly the company I work for did the winstanley college project, was there for a year...amazing butty shop up the road near the co-op!

gillybeanz · 16/03/2018 21:39

Oh, I forgot Astley, and what about Walkden

KellyanneConway · 16/03/2018 21:39

You could try some parts of Wythenshawe (South Manc, close to the airport) has a bad reputation but some parts are up and coming, particularly since the Metro extended over there: Northenden is close to Didsbury, getting very expensive but still cheaper. Sharston and Moss Nook which are close to the villages of Gatley and Heald Green which are cheaper but still close to "nice" areas like Didsbury and Cheadle. Lots of new build (90s/ 2000s).

Justgivemesomepeace · 16/03/2018 21:39

Do not move to Levenshulme.

Mrsmadevans · 16/03/2018 21:39

Sorry just saw you want 3 bed i don't know if they have 3 beds

TooMinty · 16/03/2018 21:39

Prestwich is nice, although prices have probably gone up since I lived there.

2b1c51 · 16/03/2018 21:40

North East Manchester is a good bet. Look out on the tram line towards Rochdale. Shaw and Newhey are about 40 minutes to city centre by tram, are very reasonable and have greenery on the doorstep. Parts of Stalybridge and Ashton are nice and have cheap housing. You can be in the city centre in 15-20 minutes by train. Parts of Oldham such as Royton and Lees probably also offer what you are looking for.

gillybeanz · 16/03/2018 21:42

Kinky

I know the shop you mean.

We looked at Worsley recently, but found it over priced and it was like a bloody car park in the morning, it would take you a couple of hours on top of your 20 minute commute.
I'm sorry, but it did nothing for me.
The tudor houses on the green and that square are pretentious too.
Get the idea I didn't like it Grin

HonkyWonkWoman · 16/03/2018 21:43

North East Manchester is totally affordable and some villages: Shaw,
Milnrow, Newhey are all in the foothills of the Pennines and lovely countryside. Todmorden has Hollingworth Lake and is a beautiful area.
Houses 3,beds from around £145 to £185
All within easy reach of Manchester and the M62 and M60.

Twofurrycats · 16/03/2018 21:44

Ramsbottom and summerseat are good if you don't want to be in the city directly.

Brickswithstones · 16/03/2018 21:44

What's your budget OP? It'll be easier to recommend areas suitable to your budget.

WombatStewForTea · 16/03/2018 21:46

I'm also Wigan area and easy commute to Manchester in 40min. Very green and lovely not all of Wigan is mind

EggysMom · 16/03/2018 21:52

Depends on your budget. 3bed semi's in Clayton on the east side go around £125k mark, and Clayton Vale is pretty darn green (well, more like brown and muddy this time of year, but it becomes green). Officially 12 minutes to the city centre by tram. Some may say it's not the best of areas, but it's not over-priced and in three years we've had no problems.

Serenity05 · 16/03/2018 21:53

Prestwich/Whitefield are lovely and a lot more affordable than South Manchester. Heaton Park is massive and there's also Prestwich Clough and St. Mary's Park. Lots of lovely child-friendly cafes as well, and the schools are mostly good. Travel into the city centre takes about 15 minutes on the tram. You can get a 3 bed semi for between £160k - £230k.

Fuzzyduck0 · 16/03/2018 22:10

As near to £150k as we can get. I did look at Clayton, EggysMom and the houses I looked at looked good!

Just a thought but what about over the Derbyshire border, great links to Piccadilly, we are considering this for the future, when we down size.

Fuzzyduck0 · 16/03/2018 22:19

It's more the city centre that's attracting us to Manchester so Derbyshire border would be way too far but thanks

OP posts:
Batmanwearspants · 16/03/2018 22:21

realistically 150k won't get you a 3 bed in the 'nicer' areas of manchester. Its the fastest growing housing market in the uk right now - prices are going up faster than london.

Highpeak · 16/03/2018 22:29

Is the 20 minutes driving or by public transport?
We live just over the border in Derbyshire, escapees from the city. lovely scenery and 30 mins to piccadilly by train. Driving is another matter though.
Don't just consider the M postcodes, plenty of nice places with SK/OL (Stalybridge, Marple, Todmorden and surrounds, Cheadle, Glossop) which are in easy reach of the city centre

MoorMummy · 16/03/2018 22:30

Suggest North Manchester, or as others have said Urmston if your budget can stretch.

For North Manchester I mean go out towards Prestwich.

I’m born and bred ( actually from aforementioned Wythenshawe way back).i wouldn’t want to live there now, Levenshulmes not great to be honest ( I run and drive through there on way to work every day), Clayton sorry no as well.

What you have to remember is that new housing estates are being thrown up all over and often not in the best area so you might be living in a lovely house but the schools and other facilities won’t be good.

I’m no raging snob, but if you took a trip round you’d see what I mean. Definitely consider a longer trip outside the centre.

CheekyRedhead · 16/03/2018 22:34

I echo what's already been said, I live city centre and would move to chorlton or didsbury
Avoid Clayton

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 16/03/2018 22:35

If you could face moving twice, would you rent first? It's a good way to get to know which areas you like and the commute etc before committing? i know it may depend on whether you have things like DC at school.
