Family get-together this weekend
My parents have found out that my faux-brother-law (they’re not married) is heavily in debt - 40k

They have a beautiful little son. He’s nearly 2.

Their own relationship is shite. No joint account he has Good job always skint

Sharon?

RosyPrimroseface · 13/03/2018 21:47

So your brother in law has a sister who used to live with him and now knows about his debt. Why did she share it with you guys and not your sister? Is she trying to protect her brother or your sis?
Are you worried that if you confront BIL or your own sister it will get her into trouble?

musicposy · 13/03/2018 21:48

So your parents happened to hear this, and instead of having a quiet concerned word with your sister, offering help and support if necessary, they told you - so you could share it on the internet?

I don't have enough biscuits.

Justgivemesomepeace · 13/03/2018 21:48

So to clarify- your brother in law is heavily in debt and your sister is unaware. His sister broke down to your parents and told them. You and they are now stressing about whether to tell your sister and you're all meeting up at the weekend and worried it will all come out?

MollyWantsACracker · 13/03/2018 21:48

My sister has no idea about any of this business. None.

OP posts:
ChickenTikkaBhuna · 13/03/2018 21:49

do I need to throw a six to start Grin

Counter27 · 13/03/2018 21:49

I'm so confused

ComedyBoobs · 13/03/2018 21:49

What do you mean by 'this going to happen'?
You think your sisters boyfriend has debts which your sister doesn't know about?

ReasonableLlama · 13/03/2018 21:50

So your BIL (who isn't really your BIL although he acts like he is) is in £40k debt. And your parents know this because his ex-flatmate and also your SIL (assume she is married to your brother and therefore a "proper" SIL) broke down and told your parents about the debt, but they also know because Your parents went on holiday and ended up paying for stuff even though your sis and "BIL" pay low rent and he is a high earner.

You all know but your sister doesn't know.

whyIsARavenLikeAWritingDesk · 13/03/2018 21:50

Well...this isn't confusing in the slightest

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 13/03/2018 21:51

Tell your sister.

BaronessBomburst · 13/03/2018 21:51

Ask his sister to tell your sister.

ComedyBoobs · 13/03/2018 21:51

Xeneth Grin

Haffiana · 13/03/2018 21:51

Are you one of those posters, OP? The jealous of everything and everyone posters? Is that what this is all about eh?

ReasonableLlama · 13/03/2018 21:52

Oh ex-flatmate and SIL is the same person.

Is she a "real" SIL though?

MollyWantsACracker · 13/03/2018 21:52

Oh ffs. I’m not fucking Sharon.

This is something that’s been playing on my (and my parents) mind.

My mother told me that my father had said that during the week, he said to f-bil that they needed to talk.

My father is pushing 80.

OP posts:
beelzibub · 13/03/2018 21:52

OP, just tell your sister. Why wouldn't you?

Finderscrispy · 13/03/2018 21:53

Why didn’t you just say his sister then why describe her as ex colleague / flat mate - your sil. Odd.

Raver84 · 13/03/2018 21:53

Totally ridiculous and none of your business . Why do you even care?

DalekDalekDalek · 13/03/2018 21:54

So you've got two options:

  1. Tell your sister.
  2. Don't tell your sister.

Why are you making this so confusing.

SparklyMagpie · 13/03/2018 21:54

I'd be telling if it was my sister, would I fuck let her get dragged down into it with him, if she chose to stay then that's her choice but I wouldn't be keeping it from her

Btw what a lovely person you are

ReasonableLlama · 13/03/2018 21:54

Why are your parents worried?

How do you know your sister doesn't know? My siblings don't know how much debt I'm in and I don't know about their debt (if any) so maybe she just doesn't want to tell you?

Maybe he is managing the debt?

BookAngel · 13/03/2018 21:55

I was about to go to sleep but stumbled across this and it's probably the funniest thread I've read in a while. It's a bit like a conversation with Alice (god rest her soul) in the vicar of Dibley. Is OP pissed and therefore incoherent? I've never read such a pile of drivel in my life. Keep the comments coming, I'm going to grab some popcorn.

SparklyMagpie · 13/03/2018 21:55

Oh but then again, you've only "heard" about the debt

Nicknacky · 13/03/2018 21:55

What does your dads age have to do with it? It’s no one else’s business, your sister might know.
