To not want to be called 'Mumma Bear?'

GettingStuffDoneInSlippers · 13/03/2018 12:54

It's a constant thing on my breastfeeding support group.

I see it constantly, "Don't worry, I think you've got this, mama!"

Or

"You are such a strong Mumma bear"

I cringe every time.

Surely I can't be alone in my dislike?

Someone even called me a fierce Mumma bear to my face in a group circle for mums last week Grin

"If I'm Mama Bear does that make DH Dad a Bear because they eat their own young"

That'll shut them up.

SomeKnobend · 13/03/2018 13:00

Yanbu. I was going to say it's an improvement on mummy pig, but I see it's grown adults calling you this! I think I'd actually request mummy pig instead, they won't be able to call you that because it's kind of insulting, so hopefully it'll stop them calling you anything weird.

Sirzy · 13/03/2018 13:01

Things like that make me leave groups!

TheQueenOfWands · 13/03/2018 13:01

Bite them, shit in their garden and then eat all of their honey.

That'll teach them.

Alloftheboys · 13/03/2018 13:01

OH went through a phase of referring to me as mummy pig.
Was ok till DS2 shouted "Oi pig mummy" at me 🐷

GorgeousJaws · 13/03/2018 13:01

Did you post this exact same thing recently, seems identical?

Mumma bear would annoy me.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 13/03/2018 13:04

"No, I'm a mother homo sapiens and I was under the impression I was at a mother's group.... unless I've accidentally wandered into the teddy bears picnic" should work. YANBU, "mumma" is so infantalised and sickly.

Thelampshadelady · 13/03/2018 13:07

Yanbu.
I also hate ‘bubba’. Horrid.

MarshaBradyo · 13/03/2018 13:08

Oh it’s bad

And those bloody Mama Bird tshirts all over mama blogs gneh

GettingStuffDoneInSlippers · 13/03/2018 13:10

I also hate ‘bubba’. Horrid.

This is what my DH calls me Grin

GettingStuffDoneInSlippers · 13/03/2018 13:11

Quick question, do real bears actually eat honey or is that just Winnie the Pooh? Confused

OP posts:
gabsdot · 13/03/2018 13:11

Yeah, I hate that expression too.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 13/03/2018 13:12

I believe they do eat honey but I have my suspicions about marmalade sarnies

GettingStuffDoneInSlippers · 13/03/2018 13:16

Ugh I thought adults referring to people who aren't their Mother as Mama or Mama Bear was an American thing I was safe from over here. Guess not.

Sammymommy · 13/03/2018 13:20

It reminds me of this.

yomadac.com/2018/02/07/mother-plans-to-give-child-to-adoption-if-she-hears-bubba-or-mama-one-more-time/

Grin Grin I think the anti mamma and bubba movement is a thing (and I bloody hate it. That makes me run away from new mums/breastfeeding groups)

Davespecifico · 13/03/2018 13:23

It’s just a variation on hun.

anotherchangetomyname · 13/03/2018 13:26

I hate it too. It's all over the breastfeeding/ attachmnet parent forums and groups. I did breastfeed and do gentle/ attachment parenting. But I am not a mama bear!

BoyWithApple · 13/03/2018 13:26

I really dislike it, not as much as I dislike the phrase ‘yummy mummy’ though. Yummy? Ffs!

BoamFananas · 13/03/2018 13:28

YANBU! My dsis calls my dn "xxx bear" it drives me bonkers!

"Me and xxx-bear had a lovely walk today"

Whhhhhhhy!

BuzzKillington · 13/03/2018 13:32

God, that's awful.

Belongs in hell along with 'bubs', 'lil man' and hubby.

DiegoMadonna · 13/03/2018 13:32

Me and xxx-bear had a lovely walk today

Sounds like the intro to a very weird porno

Tinkobell · 13/03/2018 13:35

Weird. Sounds like a phrase coined from over the pond.....that should have stayed there!! why don't you suggest an animal alternative - like hot vixen or mama sex kitten, I think it's the bear thing that's killing it for me. It implies a large lumbering thing with a sore head!

sexnotgender · 13/03/2018 13:35

Gads that’s dreadful.

I cannot stand twee bullshit. Is it from the your bubs your rulz type folk?
