To not want to be called 'Mumma Bear?'

GettingStuffDoneInSlippers · 13/03/2018 12:54

It's a constant thing on my breastfeeding support group.

I see it constantly, "Don't worry, I think you've got this, mama!"

Or

"You are such a strong Mumma bear"

I cringe every time.

Surely I can't be alone in my dislike?

Someone even called me a fierce Mumma bear to my face in a group circle for mums last week Grin

astoundedgoat

"You are not some special primal sort of super"momma" because you stopped a child pinching your child."

True, they are not this Mother.

KimmySchmidt1 · 13/03/2018 15:54

Bubs is worse than bubba. They are both awful.

SciFiRocker · 13/03/2018 15:55

My DH calls my mummy bear which I tolerate but wouldn't like anyone else calling me it!
Witty retorts are the answer! 😁

UnreasonablyPissedOff · 13/03/2018 16:06

I can't stand these phrases but unfortunately i do know a woman in her late 50's with kids in late 20s / 30s and she LOVES saying / writing shit on fake book such as:

Mumma
Mummsy
Mumma Bear
Bubba
Bubs
Hollibobs
Famalam
drinkies
bestie

It really truly makes sets my teeth on edge! But for various reasons I can't delete her!

KERALA1 · 13/03/2018 16:12

Awful. No reason or excuse for this.

ExpectingToFly · 13/03/2018 16:13

This is exactly how I feel about all this twee sickly bullshit 'mama' stuff. It's nice to know I'm not the only one that feels this way but everyone around me talks this way.

What is wrong with them! I am constantly thinking what is wrong with me? I just don't fucking get it. I hate it when people post on Facebook 'hi mummies.....' when asking for something. I hate #mumboss #mumlife #mumpreneur and all that shite. I hate all the 'mama' merchandise. The mums in business groups. The stupid mummy social groups where they have all the #insta mums doing a talk about the wanky lives.

Why do people put full time mummy as their job on Facebook? All the #insta profiles say 'mama' and wife before they actually describe what they do or even what their name is.

The whole thing makes me mad and I'm not sure why 🤔 must have a chip on my shoulder or something

Kitchenbound · 13/03/2018 16:51

@unreasonablypissedoff famalam😂😂😂 ahhh its so bloody awful I'm finding it hilarious. Gotta love that sleep deprivation!

Can't stand mama bear. I asked a friend why she called me that once and got 'coz you a fierce mama'. Umm. Ok? Last i checked i wasn't covered in fur and i know how a toilet works so... yeah... just my first name will do me fine thanks.

thornyhousewife · 13/03/2018 16:53

It is puerile. YANBU.

GettingStuffDoneInSlippers · 13/03/2018 18:04

Expecting I'm the same as you, I don't understand it and since everyone else seems to love/use it, I'm left wondering if I'm the odd one with a huge chip barb on my shoulder? 😅

Your welcome Hun Wink

ikulanappa · 14/03/2018 00:47

I'm hoping it's a fad that will die a horrible death soon. I hate any kind of 'baby talk'. Talk to children properly, for crying out loud. I have a friend who always comments on my boys' vocabularies yet insists on saying 'go pot pot' for toilet and 'you'll get cough cough' for poorly etc to her kids. Drives me up the wall lol. But.... wouldn't we be boring if we were all the same (trying to look on the bright side)
And surely the ultimate mama to be would be the seahorse. No tiger stripes or busted 'moo moos' for them 'cos papa bear-seahorse does all the baby carrying mahahahaaaaaa.

chorltonwheelies · 14/03/2018 01:28

Famalam??? What the jiggering hell is that?

Bubba, hubs, hollibobs & Mama should be illegal. As should nom nom & Lil Man.

All this twee is the 21st century serviette. Or preserve.

WilyMinx · 14/03/2018 03:20

It's daddy bear, mummy bear and baby bear in my family. Bear Mumsnet would probably disapprove of most, if not all of the nicknames I use for my son. Blush

callmekitten · 14/03/2018 12:50

@WilyMinx I have no problem with it if it is your family nickname. Heck people have all kinds of weird and wonderful family nicknames (I would blush to mention some of DD's) But it's when outside people, often people you barely know, use it under the guise of being supportive that it really gets under my skin. It's way too familiar and patronizing.
