AIBU or are we all going to be trapped in the UK from next March?

So, Ryanair and Thomas Cook are inserting clauses in their booking terms to say that if your flight abroad doesn't go ahead because of Brexit that's your problem. No doubt others will follow. If any deal is ever done, to allow planes to fly, it is bound to be a lot more expensive than it is now.

Is everyone planning many years of UK-only holidaying?

I think the poor level of understanding and intellect on this thread makes it one of the most depressing ones I've ever read on here.

Anyone who seriously thinks there is no issue regarding flying (not merely for holidays) must be dense.

singledadstu · 12/03/2018 19:49

It’s nowhere near the standard it was when I was younger . Last time I visited one of the shops had the ceiling falling in . Ghetto probably is a bit strong for a place I loved but as with all my posts someone has to take it to the absolute literal meaning. Clarity costs nothing I suppose , I’m guessing by your response that you love the fact that it has slowly descended from its throne

Sharperthanasharpie · 12/03/2018 19:49

Have you been to Rhyl @borntobequiet?

Talkstotrees · 12/03/2018 20:03

Blimey! The double digit IQs are out in force tonight.

swimlyn · 12/03/2018 20:09

Ohnomoresnow
…The sooner we leave that controlling, restrictive, manipulative bunch of bullies, the better…

Thank goodness. That’s a huge relief to know that.

So, they won’t retaliate in any manner at all?
(they do of course want others in the EU to know THOU SHALT NOT LEAVE)

ilovesooty · 12/03/2018 20:13

Double digit IQ? That's charitable.

borntobequiet · 12/03/2018 20:15

Have I been to Rhyl? Yes, as I have to a number of seaside towns in Wales. Like many, it became very run down but there has been considerable investment recently (much of it from the EU). Last time I visited approx 18 months ago it did seem to be on the up. Residents might disagree. However I live in a particularly picturesque part of the UK and have heard local towns described as "crap towns", so I don't pay much heed to that.
Rhyl is wonderfully situated, historic and pretty (in parts) and easily accessible especially from the north west of England. I'm glad the pp said that ghetto wasn't an appropriate description, as It's an unusual choice of description for a seaside town, and could give a wrong impression - not so much of the town as of the user of that description.

We need to move forward United in the goal of improving the future for our next generation with the tools we have .

Aka:

‘Oh fuck we broke it. What do we do now? We need those people over there who said we shouldn’t break it to help fix it. We will convince them to do so by abusing them and calling them hysterical traitors.’

Noextremes2017 · 12/03/2018 20:28

Someone early in this thread said that with a bit of common sense it will all be sorted out. My only concern with that is thst none of the UK politicians negotiating Brexit have ANY common sense.

Sharperthanasharpie · 12/03/2018 20:29

LOL, I wager you just googled Rhyl and came up with the Guardian article “can Rhyl shake its crap town label” based on that response.

Dipitydoda · 12/03/2018 20:31

I’ll jist go somewhere decent on holiday that’s not full of chavvy brits

TheyBuiltThePyramids · 12/03/2018 20:31

It makes me furious that people read the OP and just think that the evil forriners are to blame and of course they are desperate for our business etc and many just don't understand the fact that so much is currently totally up in the air with regards to flights, borders, paperwork, customs etc. NOTHING has even been started to put in to place a framework for us being outside the EU. It's not just a nice foreign holiday that we need to worry about - it is FOOD and components that our factories need etc etc. Even during WWII we imported much of our food, hence the need for rationing. If we couldn't manage to sustain the population without imports then (or earlier - thinking of the Corn Laws) I don't know how anyone thinks we will manage in the future.

Of course the imports will still happen, but the supply chain will be affected and they will be more expensive. And even our traditional British brands are not necessarily manufactured in the UK anymore.

TheyBuiltThePyramids · 12/03/2018 20:32

Even prior to WWII I meant to say.

cheval · 12/03/2018 20:33

I’ve applied for an Irish passport thanks to Irish father. Not sure helps if flights are cancelled, much more expensive etc. But I hate going anywhere. So why do I care!

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 12/03/2018 20:35

I think both my local towns were in the 'crap towns' books

Doesnt surprise me...sad though

WinnieFosterTether · 12/03/2018 20:35

Theybuilt if the thread had a serious title and the opening post had been as measured as your's then it's likely the entire tone would have been different. Well, if certain posters could dial back the personal insults.

singledadstu · 12/03/2018 20:36

@jessy lol
Use your intellect (and your extra digit) to argue facts. Your post doesn’t actually say anything in reality does it ?

TheyBuiltThePyramids · 12/03/2018 20:37

The OP was hardly hysterical though was it?

VivaKondo · 12/03/2018 20:37

Winnie can I ask where you are going to find the people necessary to run all this tourism? Your know the waitresses, people doing the cleaning etc etc.
Amongst all the other issues coming with a hard Brexit, WTO style (which is what we are talking about here).

So do you think that the trend you are talking about, based in the weakness of the pound, is going to carry on after a hard Brexit???
Fwiw
138. e development of a new system of entry to the UK for EEA visitors will be a key aspect of the UK’s relationship with the EU a er Brexit. In its consideration of the implications of altering the principle of free movement, the Government must be aware of the detrimental impact this could have for the UK as a tourist destination. Businesses and organisations within the tourist industry are understandably concerned and we believe that the Government should be cautious about taking any steps which could harm the ‘welcome’ the UK provides to tourists.
publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201719/cmselect/cmcumeds/365/365.pdf (Impact of Brexit in tourism by the British governemnet)
So basically the tourism is in very bad shape if there isn’t some sort of free movement for tourists coming from the EU27....

TheyBuiltThePyramids · 12/03/2018 20:39

My home town was voted top crap town last year I think. Proud.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 12/03/2018 20:39

theybuilt

Yeah i cant see where the OP is hysterical

Title to lure them in then a sensible OP, like 90% of threads on here

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 12/03/2018 20:40

theybuilt

By home town do you mean, where you live or where you were born

I need to know so i can google Grin

TheyBuiltThePyramids · 12/03/2018 20:42

Where I was born. It may or may not be on the up again after a hard Brexit ;-)

singledadstu · 12/03/2018 20:44

@theybuilt
I used my vote according to my own belief on facts surrounding the EU same as most people did. Everything is now going to have to be re evaluated . My posts re holidays tangent were in response to another pp talking about o Leary .
I’m hoping tho as Britain had a major role in creating many of the EU directives that fundamentally we will still have many of the same beliefs as the European countries (yes I know our countries lie inside the European continent too). There are things to be negotiated and i hope that the government will negotiate properly

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 12/03/2018 20:45

Oh i think mine will go down in a hard brexit

Its in wales

Only lived there a year though Smile
