AIBU or are we all going to be trapped in the UK from next March?

So, Ryanair and Thomas Cook are inserting clauses in their booking terms to say that if your flight abroad doesn't go ahead because of Brexit that's your problem. No doubt others will follow. If any deal is ever done, to allow planes to fly, it is bound to be a lot more expensive than it is now.

Is everyone planning many years of UK-only holidaying?

There are lots of lovely countries to vacation in, the EU doesn't have a monopoly on beeches..

and how are you going to get to these lovely countries when your plane cannot fly to or from the UK, nor over any EU countries' airspace?

Talkstotrees · 11/03/2018 20:02

Walking no one is suggesting flight will be banned - it’s just that there might be no agreements in place to enable them to fly. I think this scenario is extremely unlikely but if we crash out with no agreement that is the result.

TalkinPeace · 11/03/2018 20:03

Go for it
but without the Open skies agreement in place, flights in and out of the UK will get a lot dearer
and of course no EHIC = no free medical treatment for those without proper insurance
and of course no more cheap booze because the full international limits will kick in

personally as a non Brit, I'm looking forward to much more civilised holidays in the Med Grin

AgnesSkinner · 11/03/2018 20:03

I’m not a beech fan. Can you suggest some alternative holiday destinations, perhaps involving olive trees? I’m quite fond of olives.

BishopBrennansArse · 11/03/2018 20:04

Chardonnay of course we can't. Will of the people and all that.
It'd be nice if the govt extracted a digit and got the fuck on with it negotiation wise, though.

I'm a little concerned by May's determination to scrap the human rights though.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 11/03/2018 20:04

No walking

I wanted to know 'how many' had said it

I appreciate that one or two might

And i also appreciate that some people on here think that everyone who voted remain or leave think exactly the same thing about everything to do with the EU

Hence 'remainers think...' and 'leavers think....' which seems to be so prevalent

onalongsabbatical · 11/03/2018 20:05

They're going to walk on water, Havanananana, because that's what Brexshiters can do.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 11/03/2018 20:07

Sorry walking

I wasnt clear

I do not think you are one of those people that believe people who voted leave and people who voted remain have a hive mind

expatinscotland · 11/03/2018 20:09

'I think many who support Brexit overestimate the importance of Britain to other countries.'

And vastly overestimate how everyone will 'pull together' with some nostalgic Dig for Victory spirit if it all goes tits-up when the reality is, in the event of shortages and high prices, plenty will be happy to sling those who voted for it under a bus, especially with their 'We'll leaving, get over it!' Nah, not interested in pulling together with the likes of that.

Clarissalarissa · 11/03/2018 20:11

Walkingdeadfangirl - can you explain what you mean by negotiations have been progressing as planned?
I really mean it - I think we all need you to explain that statement.

About time to realise the real potential consequences of Brexit.
And with much less than a year left (because your u need to leave some time to get organise before March 2019), I’m wondering how the governemnet will try and ensure that the country is ready tbh....

And if flying was the only issue.
Customs is another huge problem. A queues at the frontier and trucks waiting days to be able to come into the country. When we have only 3 days worth of food in stock. (The joy of just in time systems)

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 11/03/2018 20:12

agnes will be cycling for victory

Apparently

Walkingdeadfangirl · 11/03/2018 20:14

Seems Ryanair isn't actually that bothered about Brexit.

Irish LCC Ryanair is more optimistic that flights between the UK and the European Union (EU) will not come to a grinding halt when the country leaves the bloc (Brexit) in March 2019.

Speaking in London March 7 as he unveiled Ryanair’s new environmental policy, chief marketing officer Kenny Jacobs said progress has been made in Brexit negotiations in recent weeks.

Jacobs said that recent comments by UK prime minister Theresa May that the UK would continue to have close relations with the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) means the negotiations over the aviation sector appear to be heading in the right direction.

He added that discussions with other major airlines at the Airlines for Europe lobbying body in Brussels on March 6 had encouraged the LCC: “We don’t think flights will be grounded in 2019. The two sides are definitely getting closer to a transition deal that will manage to the end of 2020.”

SantaClauseMightWork · 11/03/2018 20:14

That's so right.
has anyone discussed the Irish border yet? Sorry haven't RTFT.

Sheasksmehowthecatsbeen · 11/03/2018 20:16

Food chain disruption is a major concern for me. The snow disruption of the last week should have given everyone a little taste of what that's going to be like. The shops by us are still not back to normal stocks.

But again, that's 'scaremongering', not appreciating there might be a problem and acting accordingly. Anyway, that's a thread digression, sorry.

expatinscotland · 11/03/2018 20:16

Well, we haven't had, 'Food shortages are terrific! People are all obese' yet, can't leave until that happens.

AgnesSkinner · 11/03/2018 20:16

rufus look at the plus side - you might be living on a diet of turnips but you’ll be as fit as a butcher’s dog Smile

Clarissalarissa · 11/03/2018 20:17

There was a rightwinger on Radio 4 this morning, who among other gems said that the majority now think that the EU are behaving badly, and this indicates that after Brexit they will "rally round the flag".
I would love to know what "rally round the flag" means. I suspect that for starters it will mean taking it quietly when the government swiftly removes our current human and employment rights.

Sheasksmehowthecatsbeen · 11/03/2018 20:17

Was that before or after negotiations were suspended over the Irish border Walking? Not being goady, although it will seem like it, I appreciate that.

BishopBrennansArse · 11/03/2018 20:18

Agree totally Clarissa. Have to be completely silent when they shaft us up the arse removing all our rights.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 11/03/2018 20:20

agnes

I dont think i like turnips

I dont mind swede...

Although i do have about 5 stone to lose before i can give that butchers dog a run for his money Grin

expatinscotland · 11/03/2018 20:20

'Agree totally Clarissa. Have to be completely silent when they shaft us up the arse removing all our rights.'

As I said, fuck pulling together with that shit.

BishopBrennansArse · 11/03/2018 20:21

Absolutely, expat. Didn't vote for it so why should I help clean up?

Talkstotrees · 11/03/2018 20:22

GSG I’m a little Blush to be continuing this feud on an important thread but I really do not understand your fury. No, I’m not a Mumsnet frequenter (apologies); hun is in regular use where I live and is used to show either affection or a the absence of aggression. Do you stalk Mumsnet looking for people who use the word? Again - I didn’t call you ‘hun’ so I’m not sure why you think I did. Yes, I do get a bit exasperated by people not reading the thread and making points that have been addressed several times. I used ‘hun’ to portray the absence of aggression. Apologies if this is not acceptable on Mumsnet - I have been informed and will not use it again.

Seriously though, you might want to get some anger management therapy.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 11/03/2018 20:23

Can you suggest some alternative holiday destinations, perhaps involving olive trees? Your right AgnesSkinner we cant leave the EU because of... the olives. Its not like Turkey, Tunisia, California, Morocco or anywhere else in the world grows them.
